Splashstream skipped around her clanmates, happier than ever now that it was newleaf. Flowers were blooming everywhere, and it really brightened up the area. 'I wish Lotuspetal could see this.' She sighed at the thought, but quickly shook it away. She wasn't gonna let anything get her down, not today!
She skidded to a halt once she reached the nursery. She'd almost toppled over some kit! Grinning, the calico leaned down to get face-to-face with the kitten. "Sorry squirt!"
There was a winged colorful beauty fluttering about camp that she was intently following. She didn't even register that she may be getting in the way of others as she wandered after the creature. She didn't even stop after a older warrior apologized after nearly stepping on her. She simply walked past after the creature.
The kit didn't seem to notice her. Splashstream followed Mistkit's gaze, eyes widening as she spotted the butterfly. She bounded after it, quickly leaping and bringing it down with her paws. "I caught it! Come look!" She grinned at the kit, then looked down as the butterfly struggled to get free. "I'm not gonna let you go, mister butterfly." She whispered.
Mistkit recoiled in shock as the creature was knocked down by a paw.
Her brilliant emerald eyes widened as her gaze followed from the butterfly, traveling up the limb that captured the creature, up to the face of the captor. ".... Butterfly." She whispered, barely audibly. "Are you hurting him?" She asked quietly, her eyes suddenly hardening with judgement.
"Hurting him? No way!" She rolled her eyes. As an apprentice she was a butterfly catching pro. She hadn't lost her skills, had she? Splashstream glanced at Mistkit, then nodded down at the butterfly. "See? I'm being gentle. If I let go he'll flutter away!" She sniffed it gingerly, then grinned again. "You wanna touch him?"
However, she could realize the implications of the warrior rolling her eyes. She narrowed her eyes. She bent down to look at the butterfly, tilting her head to the side. "He should be free... If you had wings, would you want them to be clipped?" She asked quietly, not taking her eyes off the butterfly, completely immersed in it. However, her expression has softened to sympathetic sadness, seeing the pinned creature.
She sighed, getting slightly annoyed. "It's not like I'm gonna kill him! Of course I'll let him go." She removed her paw, and the butterfly fluttered up and away. Splashstream shook her head. "Kits these days..." She bent down to face her again. "What's your name?"
Mistkit watched with a fond expression as she watched the butterfly fly away.
She continued watching after the butterfly, even after it escaped her line of sight. She didn't turn her head to look away, continuing to look where the butterfly had disappeared. "Mistkit." She replied simply, offering no elaborations of any kind.
"Mistkit! Mistkit, Mistkit, Mistkit. Mist-Kit. I like that." She wondered how the queens came up with such fantastic names. Mistkit? That was a good one. She followed her gaze again, looking at the sky with a tilt of her head. "He'll return soon. I'm Splashstream, by the way."
Mistkit thought the continuous repetition of her name was unnecessary.
She didn't think the butterfly would return. If someone pinned her down and then she got free, she didn't think she'd look back. The only sign that she heard Splashstream at all was a slight twitch of her tail.
It didn't look like the kitten was listening. Splashstream raised a paw and attempted to bop Mistkit on the head. "Mistkit!" She thumped her tail against the ground. She'd figured out by now that this she-cat was a little spacey. Splashstream didn't mind it too much. 'I just can't tell if she's listening!' The warrior raised her voice as she started to speak. Maybe Mistkit had a hard time hearing. "Wanna play a game?"
((Sorry for lateness.. Admittedly forgot about this thread!))
Mistkit's ears flattened and her head lowered a bit under Splashstream's paw.
She thought the older she-cat was rather immature and just the slightest bit annoying. Then the calico warrior suddenly shouted something about a game. "I lack interest in games." She stated bluntly, irritation edging her voice.
