She only knew this cat needed an assessment. One step away from warrior-hood. Well, the last task this she-cat had to do. She'd pass for sure. "Palefire!" She called for her by the den. Waiting for her prescence she said,"I'm filling in. You just have your assessment to do right?" Windswirl kindly said. "If your not hungry, we'll go get this started." She waited for a response.

Hailpaw sat up the second she heard her voice. 'Assessment already?' She hoped she could do it. Giving herself a quick wash and a small pep talk, the she-cat made her way out of the den. Sniffing the air for the warrior, she followed the scent trail and dipped her head once she was a tail-length away. "Thank you for doing this. I'm ready when you are."

"I'm Windswirl by the way. Short notice of course but nice to meet you." She said to the apprentice. Than lead the way to the territoty.. "Your welcome!" She purred for a few seconds as they reached there. "Okay," She said sitting for that bit of the talk as well as looking at the apprentice- Palefire," The order will go in hunting than battle. Catch three or four pieces of prey. Any will do. I'll be observing, but try not to let that stop you from a great performance. You'll do great." Windswirl paused for a moment, "Tested on agility, stalking.. and self defense. Okay, whenever you feel ready."

Hailpaw followed Windswirl closely, stopping and listening intently as the warrior sat down. She nodded when Windswirl finished. 'I hope I don't mess up...' She slightly hoped the warrior would go easy on her due to her blindness, but at the same time she hated to be pitied. Taking a deep breath, she dipped her head once more and spun around, trotting off deeper into the territory.
She kept her nose close to the ground, trying to find any prey tracks. Soon enough she scented a vole. 'Mm, my favorite.' She followed the trail, halting as she almost stumbled into a patch of ferns. It seemed like the vole was on the other side of the greenery.
Carefully stalking around to the other side, she kept her ears perked. The second a slight rustle was heard, the she-cat leaped and pinned the prey down. She delivered the killing bite, relief flooding over her. 'First catch done.'

She watched her go. There was something different about her.. What was it? It was at the tip of her tongue. It occurred to her just as WIndswirl followed but far away from Hailpaw's presence. She had a keen eye for watching over long distances. Hailpaw's near fatal collapse of the ferns. Blind? Why hadn't I noticed earlier. But nothing she can do once an assessment has started. An apprentice of hers just graduated too. Windswirl had faith in Palefire.
Hailpaw was alert and very focused. Windswirl did step on a crackled leaf as she watched her jump out onto a vole. Windswirl moved to another location.

Hailpaw flinched at the sound of a crackling leaf. 'Windswirl?' She spun around, but couldn't catch the warrior's scent. Shrugging, she continued her journey. She took a sharp left and started heading toward a more spacey area.
Reaching a small rocky clearing, she lifted her head and sniffed the air. 'Sparrow!' It didn't seem too far off, either. Belly fur brushing the ground, she slowly made her way over. 'Please don't fly off...' She knew catching a bird would be a little more tricky. 'Let's hope luck will be on my side.' When she felt the time was right, Hailpaw leaped out from her position and clawed the bird's wing, tugging it to the ground and delivering the killing bite. 'Second catch.' One more to go.

This reminded her of her former apprentices assessment. She was impressed, even though Windswirl moved quickly Hailpaw was aware of more than just one scent, noises around her, as expected from a nearly almost warrior. Windswirl scented the bird even before it began chirping. Leaping over a small ditch, she noticed Palefire crouching for the sparrow. She felt worried for a second cause it looked like that bird was going to take off. But her sneaky silent stealth mode was so good the bird couldn't even detect. Yes! She thought unspoken as the kill was served. Now just one more!

Hailpaw was thinking the same thing. Just one more, and this all would be over. Taking one slow breath, she marched off again. 'I hope Windswirl is proud!'
Now she was getting closer to the border they shared with TreeClan. The plants were growing thicker and closer together, so was bound to be a mouse or two nearby. 'Let's see if I can find one...'
Pushing herself inbetween two shrubs, she listened quietly and sniffed the ground. There was a mouse scent, but it was faint. Her nose was almost touching the ground as she followed the little critter's trail. Soon enough the scent became stronger, and she could tell the mouse was only tail-lengths away. Getting into a hunter's crouch. she snuck forward and quickly lashed out her paw. It struck the mouse right in the side, and she dragged it closer to bite down on its neck. She prodded the dead prey in disbelief, wanting to make sure it was actually there. 'I think I did it!'

When Hailpaw went for another final hunt down, Windswirl herself gathered the sparrow by the jaws and trotted to put it with the first catch a further back from square one where the first was caught. There she let Hailpaw go unsupervised for those few moments. Windswirl quickly came back to the original spot she was at, scenting Hailpaw's presence. Leaping right through the thickness of bushes, she shrugged the debris off herself. She saw a ways ahead the fur/body of Hailpaw's going in for another kill. To see it flung across the forest ground. The look of it, the impact of the hit c=would of been enough to make it immobile.
"Palefire, good work!" She wanted to call out but, this here would be a good chance to attack her from an angle. Being silent, ears flattened she approached and went to leap at her as Hailpaw was momentarily distracted.

Hailpaw straightened up with a smile when she heard Windswirl's voice. She was about to respond, but fell back as something crashed into her. 'Battle!' She'd completely forgotten about this part of the assessment. Gasping for breath, she tried to squirm out from under the warrior. She then would try to copy the warrior's former attack and leap on her.

Hailpaw was quick on her feet. Knowing the tackle surprised her. Windswirl was hit, nearly knocked over, underestimating her strength. Regaining balance, shifted her body to tackle Hailpaw down with her weight.

Hailpaw squeaked as she was knocked to the ground under Windswirl's weight. Now underneath the she-cat, she tried to wiggle around to get onto her back. From there, she attempted to kick the warrior off with her back legs.

She was leaped back as she got kicked, which was a good move Hailpaw did. She remained where she was, seeing what Hailpaw would do.

Hailpaw quickly hopped up, happy that her move had worked. She then scented the air for the warrior and ran in that direction. She kept close to the ground, paw outstretched as Windswirl's scent came closer. She tried to swipe her paws out from under her, hoping she would trip and fall.

She did fall over. She smiled though it was unnoticeable. Windswirl pawed a blow at her side.
