When you have no one you are no one This was it, no turning back. The wait was over; the ruthless backlash of regret following the departure had been coming in waves, and the guilt following it was driving her to a breaking point. Her own fear pf abandonment was ironic in a sense, and never had she imagined committing such an offence herself. However, it was common knowledge even to her that the world worked in mysterious ways, and now she had to own up and face what she had left. She had no excuses now, only mind numbing apologies to dish out until she was forgiven. At least the gap between disappearance and arrival hadn't been too large, an upbringing with only a singe parental figure was the last of her desires for her own children. Enough with the internal monologue already, you're not a poet.
Despite her own scolding, the familiar words that had been circling her head for days repeated themselves once more, and she sighed softly. She had no thoughts at that current moment, and her only energy was running her an adrenaline filled need to redeem herself to her own family. The family she'd almost completely left forgotten. Leaving wasn't her own decision it sort of just...happened. She had no control over it, but she sure as heck paid the price for her own ignorance. If she could have a say in th matter, she would undoubtedly go back and do something -anything- to hinder the situation she was currently going through. Well at least you weren't completely stupid, they are still kits. You didn't miss much. Foxstrike on the other hand, that's going to need a heck of a lot of time to repair.
Flinching internally at the thought, the tabby pushed herself forward and shouldered her way into the nursery, pausing to take in a deep inhale of the muggy air. It was too hot her her liking, and she could feel the heat rolling off her in waves, not helped at all by her pelt that seemed particularly thick that day. Choosing to ignore her own discomfort however, she lowered her head and drew in a breath, trying to scent out a certain cat. her ears flattened in distaste when she couldn't locate the smell, and she moved over to the nests lined up in the den, sniffing each unoccupied one to try and pick out which could belong to her kits. After a moment of searching, she finally came along one that had the lingering scent of her on it, mixed with numerous others of what she could only assume were her children, and carefully pawed her paw inside, settling down on the squish moss with a deep exhale. Not settling down too quickly, she peered around the den with narrowed eyes in an attempt to spot one of the kits, repeatedly tasting the air for any signs of them And it takes no one to know one

Birchkit had just woken up from a small nap. The brown and white tabby yawned revealing tiny and sharp teeth. Birchkit sighed but then caught the scent of her mother's milk scent. Hornetstripe's back! The brown and white tabby did not think that her mother would return. She followed the scent of Hornetstripe. "Hello Hornetstripe. Where have you been?" BIrchkit questioned head tilting from one side to another.

When you have no one you are no one Sighing quietly, Hornetstripe kneaded the soft nest for a moment, before resting her head on her paws and shutting her eyes. She needed rest, that was for sure, and overly-stressing over her kits would just put her in a bad state. Letting out a quiet sigh, she tried to will her still racing mind to relax and allow her to rest, when a new scent suddenly hit her nose. Immediately, her head shot up and she locked her gaze on the source of the familiar smell, feeling her heart begin to hammer in her chest. She watched with a clearly surprised expression as the kit made it's way over to her, feeling a strange warmth she hadn't experienced in a long time begin to swell in her chest. As the kit finally reached her, she sat up and shuffled forwards, lowering her head to peer up at her. She felt a warm smile come to her face, and upon hearing her own name come from the she-kit, she almost instantly moved forward to scoop her up in her paws. Purring profusely, she couldn't process anything other than an intense need to hold the kit in her paws, and proceeded to lick her head repeatedly. "Oh my gosh, Birchkit, I'm so sorry. I'm a terrible mother, I know. But I'm back now, it's okay, everything's going to be okay." Her words were muffled as she squeezed them in between licks, and she pulled away for a moment to give an apologetic smile. "I really have no excuses, and I'm really sorry for missing the first part of your life. I really hope that you can forgive me."And it takes no one to know one words: 276 - tags: N/A - notes: -

Even if Birchkit could not see her mother she still loved the golden tabby very much. "I forgive you."The brown and white tabby finally murmered softly. Birchkit would only act like this near her mother, the only cat she knew that cared about her the most.
(A bit short sorry)

When you have no one you are no one With a quiet huff, Hornetstripe nuzzled the shoulder of her kit for a moment, before finally pulling away to get a better look at the tiny creature. It'd only been a few weeks, but to her it felt like years. How could she leave such a precious, innocent thing behind? Was it even possible to be so cruel as to abandon her for any longer than she did? The very thought of that cared her, and she took the time to scan the face of her kit closely. It was only then that she suddenly realised a vital detail that she must have missed earlier; a detail that she had no idea of picking up on when the kit was still with her for the first time. Oh darling, your eyes... With a sinking feeling in her chest, she moved forward to be nose-to-nose with Birchkit, tudying her face intently for a moment, before closing her eyes. Did Foxstrike know? He had to, it was blatantly obvious once she stopped to actually make the observation. This was the one thing he was afraid of, the one thing stopping them from completing everything and finally settling down. She'd assured him it wouldn't happen, that it couldn't happen. There was no way it was possible...right? But still, despite that, the reality was here, and after a moment of silent internal conflict she finally allowed herself to accept the fact: her daughter was blind, just like her father. Opening her eyes once more, she peered into the cloudy depths of the kit's eyes for a moment, before smiling warmly when she spoke. "Oh, thank you, dear. That means more to me than you know. I know I don't deserve it, but I love you so much." Unable to stop herself from covering her with licks again, she quickly gathered her kit into another hug, before letting her go and moving back to give her a little breathing room. "Honey, one more thing before I continue, I need to let you know this. You are absolutely beautiful, and your eyes are extremely pretty. They look like a sunset on a cloudy night, and you should feel nothing but pride in having the wonderful gift of beauty. It;s a rarity, honey. Treasure it."
Making herself a mental note to chase up Foxstrike about giving their daughter lessons in "seeing" through hearing, she settled down a little more comfortably in her nest, peering at the kit lovingly. "Please, if it's not too much trouble, tell me everything I missed? Have you made any friends, perhaps had some fun practising your pouncing and climbing techniques?"And it takes no one to know one words: 438 - tags: none - notes: it's fine, i overwrite anyways c:
