Patch hissed, but stopped still as she heard flapping, her eyes burst with triumph and fear. As the hawk landed, she leapt at it. It was honestly very stupid, saying even two cats couldn't kill one easily.

at the sound of squawks and fighting pain sprung up and ran at the hawk patch was flailing at. he instantly grabbed its throat and pulled it away from her while killing it.

Patch was on the hawks back, her claws deep in its body. She almost shouted in shock as Pain yanked on its throat. It fell to the ground, and she sheathed her claws. "Pain, I could handle it myself, you didn't have to do that." She meowed, flicking her ears.

Patch felt a cold shiver up her spine, she flattening her ears. "You still do care about Nighthowl, huh?" She asked, almost adding a comment about Cloudclan, but that would make him snap.

Patch sighed a bit, digging her claws into the dead hawk. "So... You care..." She started, but stopped herself in thought. Moments passed, and she finished, "Do you care about me more?"

Patch stood still, different emotions screamed in her head. One part of her felt like it was shattered, the other was filled a relief and happiness. "Th-Thanks." She meowed, lying her head on Pain's shoulder.

"Pain, you're one of my only friends, in both lives." Patch meowed, a more mature tone to her voice. "You have helped me through a lot of troubles... Just thanks." She smiled. She lifted her head and nodded.

"but I wasn't very good in the first one when she didn't show up in a moon I didn't go get her out of their. If I did she would have been, here, with me, now." He said in a odd tone despair. He never showed that around others. Never.

Patch felt a arrow of shock go through her, she had never heard despair in Pain's voice before. "It's not your fault, she didn't want to leave without the others. But hey... I'm here, right?" She meowed. "When Maggotscreech comes, I can meet him formally, and hopefully explain why I'm here."

Pain let his head sink into his paws "kid... He's not coming. He has a mate to take care of" he said his voice cracking. "I lose everyone." He muttered "and I'll lose you too" he whispered hoarsely to himself.

Patch narrowed her eyes at Pain in a childish, but stern look. "Look, I'm not going anywhere, I'm not letting myself die without you!" She meowed, flattening her ears.
