Lace up your shoes Here's how we do Run baby run Don't ever look back They'll tear us apart if you give them the chance Don't sell your heart, don't say we're not meant to be Run baby run, forever we'll be You and me | dogpaw blinked open bleary eyes at the beckoning of his name. the fuzziness in his head slowly cleared whilst the broad tom rose from his nest. time for an assessment. if he could pass this one, it was only a matter of time before a ceremony and vigil, and he'd be given a name. but he couldn't rush it; dogpaw needed all of his focus today. the grey and white apprentice sauntered out of the den, following spruceclaw's instruction and heading straight for the fresh kill pile. he nosed around for a sustaining piece of prey but not so big that he felt guilty for taking away. he settled for a fat lizard, tearing into it.
once he was done, dogpaw cleaned up. he disposed of the bones, wiped the blood from his muzzle—though he supposed that was counterproductive due to the fact that he was mostly likely just going to bloody it again—and stretched. blue-green eyes looked toward his teacher, head cocked just the slightest to convey his unsaid question. |

Spruceclaw sat by the entrance of camp nodding to the leader of the dawn patrol as they sat out. when he saw that dogpaw was finished he called for him. "Dogpaw! Over here. its time to go." He then turned and led the way from camp out into the middle of the territory. "Okay dogpaw lets begin. first you'll need to go collect a piece of prey from each of our borders that we share with the other clans. bring them back here and tell me whatt border you got them from. This will test your knowledge of the territory as well as your hunting skills." he mewes before nodding his head towards the iceclan border.

his natural silence aided him well as he prowled closer towards the border. he knew there were voles around there because of the running river, and they were quick to notice sound. dogpaw used the cover of the rocks—grey fur blending well—and awaited one, making sure to stay aware of his distance to the border at all times. it took a while, but dogpaw finally saw a flash of a vole skitter its way about the underbrush. wasting no time, dogpaw crawled forward in a low crouch and sprung. |

Spruceclaw had waited a few minutes before he followed dogpaw to the border. he stayed downwind of the apprentice and used some of his skills taugh by a friend to climb a nearby tree. there he waited for dogpaw to make his move. he didn't have to wait long before he saw dogpaw make his move on a vole. spruceclaw made sure to take extra note of every move his apprentice made. Spruceclaw did not have to wait for the result to know that dogpaw had performed excellently. spruceclaw left his perch to cut across territory to the fireclan border where he would wait for dogpaw in a new vantage point.

it was time to head out. dogpaw kept a steady pace; he had no intentions of wasting valuable energy. scrambling his way across the rougher iceclan terrain, the apprentice finally happened across flatter ground. wide paws covered more distance, and he frowned a little at the tall grass. he couldn't use his appearance for cover now, but dogpaw knew it was better than being on barer plains. he sniffed around for signs of prey; field mice and the occasional burrowing animal frequently roamed the area. |

This would be the real test for dogpaw. the prey at fireclan territory was adapted ti be fast and agile which agility was not dogpaws strength. spruceclaw stayed crouched watching his apprentice from the shadows.
