Rose had cried when her mate, Crow, had died. Leaf-bare had struck and it had not been kind to this family of loners. Rose was no healer. Crow died of greencough, leaving her to take care of the two kits they’d had before he’d died. Rose was too distraught to notice her kits at the time. The love of her life had left this world. Eve hadn’t even reacted, simply narrowing her eyes at her father’s corpse while Sunset screamed and wailed and cried as he should.
Then times changed.
Rose took care of her kits, making sure they were well-fed and taught them how to survive. How to hunt. How to survive. Stories of dangers to avoid. Eventually, she met a tom by the name of Hunter. He stayed. They fell in love. They gave birth to a new kit and Rose seemed to forget all about the kits she already had.
Eve still did not cry out as her brother did. Instead, she concluded that she and her brother had been replaced. It made sense. Their mother was still mourning Crow, although more subtly now. Eve resembled Crow greatly, being essentially a mini-Crow that happened to be female. Sunset resembled Crow in spirit. Eve did not remember her father with incredible clarity, but she remembered enough. She recalled the stories her mother told her of the clans and how hostile they were to outsiders.
She left and Sunset never saw her again. She had offered to allow him to tag along. He declined, believing he could still regain the attention he once received from his mother. He tried, oh did he try.
However, the kit remained the center of attention given by Rose and Hunter. The kit’s name was Natalia, named after Hunter’s kittypet mother. Rose and Hunter ignored Sunset in favor of Natalia. Sunset naturally was upset and didn’t understand why he’d been cast aside. Natalia on the other hand, adored her older brother. She sought out his praise and desired attention from him. Sunset, in the firm belief that she should not be handed things on a silver platter, taught her many things to force her to learn “hard work”, as he claimed. He taught her to hunt. He taught her how to survive. What to avoid and what was particularly dangerous. Natalia’s love for her brother only grew. She loved him more than her parents. Enough that whenever Sunset would put her down, she’d look past it. She would always believe her brother was simply pushing her to be better. To survive.
Things were not the best. However, these were the “good ol’ days” as Natalia would say. However, things could not last.
One day, Rose and Hunter left to hunt. They left Sunset and Natalia behind. They never came back. Little did the two kits know, Rose and Hunter had ventured a bit too far and were attacked by a starving fox, desperate enough to attack two adult cats. They didn’t make it back.
Sunset, not knowing what had happened, assumed an even worse conclusion. He angrily turned on his sister and blamed her for Rose and Hunter’s disappearance. He claimed loudly that they had finally realized what a waste of space she was and finally abandoned her. He screamed every thing he thought about her. She was arrogant. She was useless. She was manipulative. She didn’t deserve to live. He struck out at her with claws and then ran away.
Natalia was left with a single cut that wouldn’t heal properly. She was left wondering what she did wrong.
((Ahahah.... A short little thing about Natalia's backstory. So uhh... Whaddya think?? I might do some more about specific memories.... Idk.))
