My Only Stable Ground Left {P--Sun}

It had been a long while since Sunsetshadow had seen her mother. Or even interacted with Fadingnight outside the nursery. Her father, Sunheart, was a different story. And she cherished their bond above all else, as really... Sunnyset had no one else for support. The voice was fine... once in awhile... but an actual cat was much better, in her opinion.

" you gonna say 'hi' to your mama someday? " Voiceset cooed from her head.

Sunnyset scoffed, 'Sunheart wouldn't want me talking to her.' she countered.

" so what? it might be nice to FINALLY say hello. "

'No thanks.' And the conversation was over as Voiceset gave a low hum of disappointment and receded into the back of her mind, where it could speak but no words would be loud enough to understand.

But Sunsetshadow did want to see Sunheart. She liked her father, much more than TreeClan, and far more than Fadingnight. Sunheart was her only bond. Her only stable ground she trusted wouldn't leave. Not like her mother had.

"Wonder where he is," she mused quietly.

Sunny yawned.

He hadn't slept in camp, but had slept in the territory. He hadn't wanted to disturb his clanmates in the warrior's den with his nightmares and whimpering. He ignored Moon's scathing remarks. He felt he was getting better at ignoring the voice in his head. Now, the territory wasn't exactly comfortable... But it was... Alright.

It wasn't like he got a good night's sleep anyways. As he was yawning again, he spotted someone ahead. It was Sunsetshadow. His daughter. He uh... Actually had no idea when he'd technically seen her last. Moon might've talked to her, but Moon was incredibly tight-lipped about everything he'd done aside from the brief encounter with Starry. The shy tom folded his ears back as he approached his daughter.

"E-Eh hey, Sunsetshadow."

[Sunsetshadow]

Sunsetshadow perked her ears at a familiar voice. How odd. It seemed fate deemed they meet again. Slowly, the dark golden tabby turned to the direction it had come from, meeting the gaze of Sunheart. She knew for a fact Moon wouldn't stutter, so it was indeed Sunny in front of her.

She offered a soft smile. "Hey, Dad." Sunnyset meowed warmly.

She ignored a soft growl in the back of her mind....



*gracefully leaps onto the short-post bus*

Sunny's smile was filled with warmth like they used to be, oh so long ago.

Yet, it was still tinged with awkwardness. "T-Things been going well?" He asked next. He was... Actually sort of hoping Moon had neglected their daughter in his absence. Moon might've been okay the once, but Sunny knew now. He can't let Moon out. Not even a little. His life... Has to be all him. Or Moon would tear it apart just because he can. The problem with Moon was that he rarely saw the consequences of his actions and cared little of collateral damage.

But Sunny... He cared. He always did. Even if it hurt.

Of course, every time he did.... Moon just screamed in outrage.

{ and I really hate that old font and coloring, sooo.... *tosses it out the window* we're starting out fresh again, Sunnyset. }



Quickly, the dark golden tabby nodded at that. But then her eyes narrowed in thought. "Well, I guess it's alright." she hummed. 'If my voice would just leave me alone.'

She heard no sharp laughter or sly comment from the back of her mind. She heard nothing. It... made her a little afraid. What was making the voice so against speaking all of a sudden?

'I was just kidding, Voice.' Sunnyset tried, wondering if she had just offended her. The Voice was a fickle thing... it couldn't even accept a name yet. 'You're the only friend I have.'

The voice said nothing.

"What about you?" Sunnyset meowed to her father, trying to ignore her own worry growing.

{ uuuugh I wish I was creative enough to find a good name for 'The Voice'..................................  that is literally the one reason she doesn't have a name. Nothing appeals to me, or just has the perfect level of creepiness or balance or... BLAH IT'S TOO COMPLICATED TO EXPLAIN!! }

Sunny's tail twitched uncertainly behind him. "E-Eh... As best a-as they c-could be.... I t-think...." He responded softly. Moon's screaming lowered into mutterings he couldn't hear. He didn't like the idea of Moon trying to plot... But it wasn't like he could stop the violent personality from doing so.



((Well... I'd advise thinking about what Sunnyset's voice is like on its own and relative to Sunsetshadow. Though uh... Honestly, Fading named Moon and I named Thorn so eheheh....^_^'

Sunsetshadow frowned a bit at her father's words. "Why? Has Moon been causing some trouble?" she asked quietly, an eyebrow raised suspiciously. Had Moon been let off his leash or something?

Sunny had a sad expression on his face. "He won't get it a rest..." He replied softly. "I uh... Pushed him back recently..." He closed his eyes. "I gave up for a bit... I c-came back though..." Admittedly, he was ashamed of his weakness. Of course, Moon jumped at the chance to prey upon this insecurity.

Sunsetshadow listened to Sunheart's words, and she bit her lip at that. 'At least you're not that bad, voice.'

There was no reply.

"You should push him back, though." the she-cat meowed with a stiff nod. "It's your life, Dad. And... honestly, I don't want to look at you... and see someone else." Sunnyset looked away now, a little embarrassed. "I mean... you're the only bond I have. Well, besides my voice. And... I don't know, Moon is okay, and it's cool I'm not the only one with someone talking inside their head all the time... but I don't like looking at you and seeing Moon there instead." She shivered. "It's... unsettling."

When Moon was dominant, it showed. Quite literally. Moon's entire demeanor was drastically different from Sunny's. Even from before he became a nervous wreck who didn't seem capable of anything. Moon moved with a dark confidence and a barely contained violent rage. Sunny was a kind soul, there was no doubt of that. Though, it's entirely possible Moon's influence caused Sunny to lose his confidence.

He looked away. "I-I am... I uhm.... I guess you haven't seen m-much of him. But..." He closed his eyes and his ears flattened more. "He's not g-good. He's violent." He whispered. "Y-You won't see h-him again. I promise."

((Aw, thanks! uhm do you want to take about the Thornfall/Sunset thing over PM or what? Also wanna know something weird? IDK what it is... But I think I'm typing less stutters. Is he getting better? Who knows? Hopefully.

Sunsetshadow smiled a tad at that. "Okay... I hope so." she murmured.

Sunny returned with a soft smile, if tinted with his ever present nervousness. Then he suddenly came to a realization. "W-Wait... Y-You said m-my voice....? You h-have one t-too?" Moon chuckled in the background. That had been one of the many things that had been revealed to their collective ears when Sunny had been tuning out the world.

Sunsetshadow's ears perked in confusion. Didn't her father know about the voice? She told hi... no, she told Moon about it.

He really didn't know?

"Oh... I guess Moon never told you...?" Sunnyset's voice trailed off awkwardly. She gave her shoulders a shrug. "Uh, yeah. My voice doesn't have a name yet, so that's a work in progress. But she appeared during apprenticeship. My only... uhm... conversation buddy."

Sunnyset looked away with another shrug. "Right now, my voice is kinda mad. She keeps growling at me, and I don't know what's wrong. She won't tell me if I ask." Oh, because that was important to tell Sunheart.

Sunny shook his head nervously. "M-Moon didn't r-really fill me i-in on what I-I had m-missed..." He explained, slightly shaky. His tail twitched uncertainly behind him. "O-Oh..." She was alone? He wanted to slam his head against a tree. Maybe if he was lucky it would kill Moon. But would it kill him too, if he killed Moon? He wasn't sure. But would it....

He didn't finish that thought.

"O-Oh... A-Ah... Y-You s-should still b-be w-wary of i-it..." He warned quietly.

Sunsetshadow bit her lip at the warning Sunheart gave her. Of course she was wary of the voice. It was a stranger in her head, an independent force that showed little friendliness. It was not someone she wanted there, but had no choice. Sunnyset could rebel, but the voice would never leave. It would only laugh, a mocking tune of Sunnyset's failure.

It was her ally. But not at the same time.

It was her enemy. But not at the same time.

Not a friend. An ally. An enemy.

"I know." she murmured. "She's dangerous. But she's the only friend I have... and she helps me notice things I wouldn't."
