The sun was just setting on the rocky camp as Maplekit awoke from a deep nap. The left over warm rays of the sun just beginning to touch her fur as she lay buried in the warm nest in the Nursery. As she began to search her mother, she found a still warm spot. Her mother must have gotten up and walked out of the den at some point during her nap.
Blinking a few times to clear the sleep from her eyes, she sat up on her tail-end and yawned, showing off her sharp teeth. She stood up and gently crawled over her siblings. In her attempt to crawl over them, she may have stepped on somebody but she was light enough they may not have even felt it.
The lean red-orange calico she-cat quickly slipped out from the bracken and bramble combo covering the entrance to the nursery. She stopped for a moment as she exited, letting her eyes adjust to the sunlight shining on her pelt. Scampering towards the sweet smell of prey, she nosed around finding a vole.
Laying down near the edge of the rock bed, she began nosing into the vole and quickly devoured it. Even she was unaware of the ravishing hunger biting into her belly it seemed. The calico she-cat lay down next to her half finished meal and began to admire the reds, oranges, and pinks coloring the sky above her head.
Maplekit sighed happily and watched as the colors changed before her eyes. "I wonder what it would like to be out there."
