Whaaaat? That's not a--psh--Hamilton reference or... or anything... no... no, no, not at all.
Apprenticeship was...
I took a deep sigh.
...a lot of things.
One of the more mentionable traits of being an apprentice? Boredom.
My mentor, Frostbite, had yet to train me, let alone even look my way. He just wasn't around anymore. Disappeared, just like everyone does someday. I don't even know if he's going to become one of those who 'come back'.
So I have absolutely no training. Except what I've been teaching myself. I can hunt from watching other RockClanners on the hunting patrols, and I can fight from secretly memorizing the moves my denmates show off to one another.
Just... all this self-teaching is kinda lonely.
I am standing to the edge of camp, staring at the exit to RockClan's clearing with narrowed eyes.
I'm not standing still, I am lying in wait.
For when the leader or deputy shows up, and I can ask to go on a hunting or border patrol. Because I'm the only one concerned about my training.

Dapplecloud (Hope it's okay for me to pop in here ^^) I hunched my shoulders and picked my way through the small entrance, feeling my fur brush the brambles and rocks framing it. Though it was leaf-fall now, at least there was still some prey out there. Once I was in the clearing, I turned to the right and went to drop my prey; a couple of mice, on the fresh-kill pile. However, a young-looking she-cat, most likely an apprentice, caught my eye. She was standing near the entrance, looking bored, and straight at it. Tossing the caught prey on the pile, I went over and asked, "Hey there. Waiting for someone, or are you thinking of going out?"

I jumped at a voice that was neither Cloverstar or Flamepath. My river-blue eyes turned slowly to the stranger, a warrior much older than I was. 'Am I that obvious?' was my first thought to this warrior's words on what I was doing. My second was, 'Why does she even care?'
"Waiting...." I murmured, then giving my shoulders a shrug. As if it wasn't that big a deal, which is wasn't. "For the leader or deputy. I want to join a hunting or border patrol, since I need the experience."
I wanted to a spit a "seriously, WHY DO YOU CARE?!" but thought against angering an older warrior who was probably just curious.
I then added in a quick voice, as the thought suddenly crossed my mind. "Have you seen a warrior called Frostbite around?" Maybe Frostbite hadn't disappeared... maybe he was just avoiding me....
{ you totally can pop in! i have popcorn and cookies over here on the dark side ^-^

Dapplecloud (Already baked snickerdoodles =D) "Hmm. Well, I think Cloverstar and Flamepath went out a little earlier, so they won't be back for a while." I pricked my ears at the name of the warrior. "Frostbite? Can't say I've heard of him. Not many that match the name in the warriors' den, either." I said, frowning. So this apprentice was like Flintpaw, one of my friends: abandoned by their mentor at the beginning of apprenticeship. Suddenly, a thought came to me, shooing the current thoughts out of my mind. "Say, what's your name? When Cloverstar or Flamepath come back, I could tell them you're looking for them."

{ late reply, but I am so stealing a snickerdoodle or two~ }
My ears drooped as I learned just where Flamepath and Cloverstar were, and that they weren't coming back... for a long while. 'Greeeat! Just great! I've been wasting my time standing here for who knows how long!' I snapped to myself, giving the entrance to RockClan's camp a glare. And my expression turned even more sour when I heard that Frostbite really was gone.
'Good riddance to him.' I scoffed. But really, it hurt. I didn't have a mentor then.
Did I really have to train by myself... until I got my warrior name?
I gave the stranger a glance as she made an offer. And, once more, I couldn't help but scream in my head 'WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT ME?!' Because... no one does. I don't have anyone to care for me, and I have no one to care for in return. And I... like it that way.
Right?
"I... guess." I grumbled awkwardly, suddenly getting suspicious when a certain thought crossed my mind. Why did she need to tell them? I was fully capable of doing it myself. Was this she-cat going to add another comment like, "oh, and Slatepaw is the daughter of Geckostep. You know, that weirdo? Better hold off her ceremony, Cloverstar, or RockClan will have two insane cats on the loose."
"...Slatepaw." I finally said. Oh well if she really is out to get me. Hopefully my mom hasn't ever crossed paths with her. "...And you are?"
