Basilkit had been silent from the second he was born. Silent and thinking. He wanted to do something interesting for his first words. He didn't want them to just be forgotten or easily ignored. So he thought long and hard about what exactly was going to be his big introduction.
For about two days the brown kit went about playing games without talking before one night he just couldn't take it anymore. He had to figure out what he was going to say. Finally after those two days were up and he still hadn't figured out what today he was getting upset. Then something hit him.
So Basilkit sat himself down in the middle of the nursery, ready to give a little speech he had prepared, and took a deep breath. "i'm nammedd B-basilkit." He stumbled over all of his words and felt his ears heat up with embarrassment. Those were his first words? That was the worst he had ever heard anybody speak!
Basilkit hurriedly scrambled over to the corner of the nursery and hid his head under his paws. Could this day get any worse? He had ruined his opening lines! The fluffy kit hoped that nobody had actually heard him.

(Shoving his snappy sister in here to ruin his already terrible day. Sorry *flinches away*) Basilkit hadn't said a single thing since he was born. It annoyed Fawn to no end. He was silent and timid, yet played with other kits without a single spoken word, like he was waiting for something. Perhaps he was mute? It would certainly suit the pathetic kid. Yet she couldn't help but remind herself that she's the pathetic one. Smaller than every single kit in the nursery, including those younger than herself, and almost stillborn. Yet she was also born earlier than her siblings, which meant they were technically younger than her. By almost half a moon even. Yet she couldn't help but feel a little more tolerable toward her little brother and sister than she did toward any other cat, including herself. Mostly because her only reaction was blood so far, and though they could certainly judge her for being both older and smaller than them, it certainly wouldn't work out very well for them.
She was broken from her thoughts yet again as her little brother strode into the centre of the den, drawing himself up like he'd probably seen her do sometimes when she was intimidating the younger kits. Rolling her eyes slightly, the golden child prowls closer, gaining a few sidelong glances that she returned with glares, and sat to watch her brother with undisguised amusement. What was he up to? And then he spoke. Actually spoke. The shock of it caused even her to gape, yet she regained her composure almost instantly and gained a smirk. "I know, stupid. I'm your sister" She points out bluntly, seeing as she was the only one listening. Yet she can't help a slice of guilt as he ran off suddenly upset. She hadn't even thought he'd heard her...
Huffing out and irritated breath, Fawn gets to her paws once more and follows after him, her irritation clear and her concern hidden behind her mask. Her family were the only ones she cared about, and that would remain true. Yet she wouldn't let them know that, or at least not make it obvious. "Hey little sprout, nice speech, I guess. Could do with some improvement though." Mostly, she just wanted him to stop sulking, it was making her feel upset, and she hated even the thought of such emotions. She shoves it off and reaches over to grab her brother's scruff, intending to pull him none to gently to his paws.

Basil's only hope had been that nobody had heard him speak and he got to retry his opening line again, because the first time had been an embarrassment, but even that small comfort wasn't afforded to him as he heard another kit approach him. He looked out from under his paws and saw his older, but smaller, sister. It was unsurprising that she looked less than impressed with him.
When she spoke he hid his head under his paws again and shook his head mutely. His speech was absolutely horrid. He had messed up two of his three words! How was he supposed to come back after that! He would be a laughing stock! He was pulled, literally, out of his thoughts by his sister yanking him up by his scruff. Basilpaw obeyed and sat up. He was only slightly larger than her, consider that he was younger, but the difference was there.
When Basil looked around and saw nobody listening in the immediate area he leaned closer to Fawnkit. "Th-That was supposed t-to be my first speech a-a-and I ruined it!" There were tears welling up in his big green eyes and he was still stuttering over words, which only seemed to make him more upset. Basil felt like he was being cheated out of this thing he had waited patiently for and it pretty much broke his tiny heart.

Fawn nodded appetisingly as her little brother allowed himself to be pulled up to his paws. He was obedient, which was helpful in her books, and she was glad he'd finally spoken, though she hadn't exactly expected that sort of reaction. Whether or not he'd heard her whither I guess comment earlier, he gave no acknowledgement and instead continued to look like someone aphad smooshed his little face in the mud and called him a whimp. Which they might well do if he kept acting like one. It was bad enough that everyone judged her, she wasn't going to let anyone do the same to her siblings, no matter how uncaring she outwardly seemed.
At his sputtered words and brimming tears, the golden child lashes her tail irritably and levels her brother with a pointed look. At least it wasn't a glare like everyone else recieved from her, just a look that commanded he pay attention. "Nonsense. You were nervous, and now you're upset, that's why your stuttering. All you have to do is get over it, got it?" Huffing with irritation, and knowing well she'd have to soften her tone, the child glances around to make sure she wouldn't be giving anyone else the impression she cared for her younger siblings. Good, no one was listening.
Returning her attention to her brother, Fawn sits down and tucks her tail over her paws, trying to look as patient as she can manage. "Cats judge each other. That's what they do. What you've gotta do is prove to them that you're better, and that you don't care what they think. Okay?" She waits for a response, before going on as though he hadn't spoken. "If you want to convince them you don't care, you've got to stop being so nervous. And if you can do that, and not be so sad about it, then you'll stop stuttering, got it? Good. Now, take a deep breath, calm down, and repeat after me." She waits for him to follow her instructions, before going on with her instructed sentence. "I am Basilkit, and I am strong." Then, to he surprise, she offers him an encouraging nod.

(don't mind me, it says it's open)
Jaykit was watching Basilkit and Fawnkit, again admiring and remembering Fawnkits strength and steel. Their last encounter stuck in his brain, but he shoved it away. He could turn over a new leaf and try again later.
For now he was merely watching their 'bonding'.

Basil had never properly spoken to his sister, but he had seen her around and the scary looks and rude attitude were a common thing for her. He expected to receive the same treatment from her and it seemed as if he would get it with the way her golden tail lashed. She seemed angry and the look she gave him shut him up, but her words were more caring and helpful than Basilkit had expected. It genuinely seemed like she wanted to help him.
It was true that Basilkit had been a little bit nervous, but he should have gotten over that! It wasn't something g that should have held him back! He had ruined his only chance to have memorable and interesting for words! Now his first words were just a jumbled mess. His sister sat down and almost looked like she was being patient with him. Basil sniffed a little in an attempt to stop the tears from welling up.
What Fawnkit said was a little less than comforting. Basil didn't want to be better than anybody else and he didn't want to be judged. When Fawn paused for his answer he slowly nodded. "I g-guess." he mumbled. When she said the sentence he was to repeat Basil paused. He took a deep breath, as instructed, and tried to calm down.
Before he said anything he looked around to see that nobody was listening still. "I'm Basilkit a-and I am strong." He mewed, managing to only stutter once. He frowned, but had stopped tearing up. It was better than before, but it wasn't good. How was he supposed to stop being nervous and sad if he was still messing up? He sighed and squeezed his eyes shut. "I am Basilkit and I am strong." He repeated again after sitting with his eyes closed for a few seconds.
There was a pause as Basilkit sat, still with his eyes closed. Then they flew open and his entire face shifted from being a sad mopey mess to being exstatic and excited. "I did it!" He shouted. This earned him a few looks from the kits that were closest to him and his sister. He collapsed back to the ground again. "I can't even have a second chance now!" He mewled as he scolded himself mentally for shouting before he retried his entrance speech.

Jaykit stifled his giggle with a growl at himself. Why was he laughing? He had gone through the same thing. He had been nervous.
But his sister had shut him down. He winced, peering at Fawnkit from his nest. He didn't entirely support her teaching, but at least she wasn't biting him...

Okay, so maybe that was a bad choice of words. But in a way, it had helped, she supposed. Fawn watches her little brother curiously, wondering just when he was going to speak his mind to her. Yet she supposed she couldn't be too expectancy, this was, after all, their first verbal interaction. In fact, it was sort of their first general interaction, seeing as he'd seemed almost scared of her until now. And with good reason, she mused, seeing how she acted toward everyone else. Her jaw tightens slightly and her eyes soften with a bit of effort. She didn't want him to be scared of her, she wanted him to look up to her. Not that that was physically possible, but in spirit she hoped it could someday be so. Hopefully her little sister had a stronger will than he, though thus far she had yet to interact with her, too.
As he repeated the mantra she'd given him with only a single stutter, she couldn't help but allow her expression to soften, a hint of pride shimmering in her eyes. Yet he still seems disappointed. Good. As a family, they needed to strive for the best they could do, and she knew he could do better than that. She watches as he closes his eyes and takes a calm, steadying breath before trying again. His perfectly clear sentence elicits a grin from the sullen feline, which she quickly masks and hides as he opens his eyes once more. Yet the look of pride remains. Her eyes flit around, skipping over the ahdow of a watching kitten she doesn't notice yet, before assuming the coast is clear. Tentatively she allows a warm smile to slip onto her features. "Very good, now repeat that to yourself whenever you feel the need, okay? Because it's true, but sometimes we need a little reminder."
Her temporary smile falls away suddenly, replaced by her mask, as he yells out in triumph. Yet, after a quick glance around, offering a few glares in return to lingering gazes, she satisfies herself that once again no one is watching them. She still had yet to notice Jaykit watching in the shadows. Twitching her tail slightly, Fawn lowers her head to her brother, lying down so that they're at eye level with one another. "You're right, you can't. But you know what? It doesn't matter." She assures him, her voice taking a hard edge, yet her eyes a little warmer than they are to anyone else. "If it makes you feel better, I'm pretty sure my first words were a stuttering mess somewhere along the lines of 'don't eat me' to some visiting warrior or another. I'm proud, and I bet mother and Lichenkit will be too." She points out, hoping to calm him a little.

Basilkit, from his spot lying on the ground, slowly began to notice how nice Fawnkit was being. He wondered why. Was it because secretly, beneath her scary exterior, she was actually really nice? Or was it simply because she was related to him? Either way he didn't want to let her niceness go to waste on him. He decided that he, for at least the rest of the time he spoke to his sister, was going to not worry as much as he could manage. If he could manage.
She was right anyways. He had done his best and he had waited, which was more than some kits could say. His mother would be proud. Basilkit looked at his sister and grinned. "Don't eat me seems characteristically weak for you Fawnpaw. Are you telling me that my sister is actually weak deep down in her heart?" He teased, figuring that something like that might get him snapped at, but it lifted his spirits. Now he figured he was going to play the role of the teasing brother.
So far he like his older sister. Basil found her more than a little scary and fairly harsh, but he could tell she was trying to be nice to him and that counted as something. He also appreciated her making the other kits look away with a scary look of her own. He hadn't even noticed a different kit was still watching them from the shadows.
[We might need a posting order eventually, but for now welcome to the thread Jaykit! Sorry that my post is a tad bit lazy.]

(Hehe, we'll toss up a posting order starting from when Jay is, like, 'there' since he's currently just lurking ) Fawn watches as her brother seemingly strngethens before her very eyes. Though this does not quite succeed in surfacing a smile, she does offer a nod of approval as she sits back up, rolling her shoulders slightly to stretch them as she surveys the den once more. One cat peered at them, bemusement glittering in their eyes, but looked away the second they caught Fawn's glare. She needed to put these kit's in their place before they got the foolish thought that she might well be friendly. This was a one off, and only because he was her brother, and so she cared for him. It was technically in her job description, being an older sister and all. Besides, if they got closer, she needed someone she could trust when they're older. Her bother was her best bet so far. Despite her outlook, she wasn't emotionless.
And yet the child's whole body stiffens and her eyes narrow pensively as she considers whether or not to snap at Basil's comment. Of course, she admired this sudden show of character, and his attempt at being a teasing brother, yet he needed to remember that teasing her was not the way to go. Her hard gaze zeroes in on him for an extended moment, before she huffs and merely tilts her chin up somewhat haughtily, not wanting to snap at him and revert him back to how he was moments ago. "I'll let that one slide, this time. But I'll have you know I am not weak. And neither are you. You'd do well to remember that." She points out, her tone sharp and leaving no room for argument before her demeanour softens once more. "Besides, I was a newborn. Anyway, who even says I have a heart? Don't tell them that, they'd never believe you" She murmurs, gesturing with her chin toward the other kits now going about their daily business. For all they knew, she was cold and heartless, and that's how it would stay.
After a while of silence, Fawn opens her mouth to speak again when she catches a flicker of movement in the corner of her eye. Frowning, she turns her head to stare into the shadows, spotting the faint outline of a cat she'd missed twice now in her sweeps of the area. Scowling slightly, she glares toward the hidden kit, lashing her tail slightly. She doesn't even bother trying the scent, seeing as she'd doesn't care who it is. Just that they ought to be on their way. "I'll have you know I don't take well to eavesdroppers, you best be on your way." She points out coldly, wrapping her tail around her brother's shoulders and glaring at the shadows. For all she knew, they were some bully there to tease her and her younger brother, a slight sidelong look at Basilkit assured him she wasn't going to let that happen. (Edit: just a not @basilkit, I will post once @hayes has, then we'll start a posting order from there)

Fawnkit's initial reaction to Basil's teasing made him think that he was indeed about to get snapped at, or have some mean comment flung his way, but his sister was calm and instead gave some rather encouraging words. They were both strong. Basil couldn't really argue with that. He had seen his sister be strong from afar, and he had seen her be strong with him just recently. He chuckled at her following remark of not having a heart. He wasn't going to be so easily convinced after the display of kindness and caring he had just witnessed from his elder sister.
There was a moment of silence between the two and during it Basilkit throut of what he was going to do next. He had ruined his opening line, that much had already happened, so now he had to come up with some new scheme. Perhaps he would learn to climb before a mentor taught him, or he would put together a huge prank with some of the other kits to worry the Warriors. Basil thought about this in that moment, but when it looked like his sister was about to speak he listened closely.
No words followed. Instead his sister glared at the shadows of the nursery as if some unknown enemy was watching them from the darkness. Basil squinted into the darkness, feeling more bravery than nervousness, and tried to see what his sister was seeing. When Fawn speaks her tone has changed from the nicer, but not quite nice, tone she had taken with Basilkit. He finally spotted the kit that his sister saw as he felt her tail wrap around his shoulders. What to do now? He noticed the look that Fawn gave him and Basil grinned. Maybe the role of an enforcer?
"You have until the count of five." Basilkit stated with as much bravado as he could manage. It was a strange turn to the nervous mess he had been just a few moments ago. He started to count down from five. "Five, four, three..." he wasn't sure what he was going to do if he reached zero, but he had seen a queen do this with a kit who was misbehaving and it seemed to work for her. Maybe it would work for Basil as well.

Jaykit flashed a grin as the other kit, Basilkit, started counting. Who on earth did he think he was? Jaykit rose and stalked forweards, his dark fluffy fur spiked. He decided it would be fun to mess with the two for a bit.
Jaykit let out a growl and narrowed his eyes at Basilkit, a tiny, tiny shimmer of amusement sparking in them. "Who on earth do you think you are? You have no right to order me around."
He turned to Fawnkit, small teeth bared. "And you! I remember you. You were the one who nearly ate me!" He shot Basilkit a false look of horror. "I remember! Why didn't you want to be my friend. You made me so sad..."
He then sat down and wrapped his tail around his paws and counted to five in his head, waiting for Fawnkit to burst. He wondered how she would take his new sassy ways.
(XD Hiya. Sorry I took forever to reply.)
