Shadowpaw
Lotuspaw opened her eyes to see the wall of a different den. She jumped, startled, and noticed that she was sleeping in a nest of her own, not crowded with a bunch of other kits. She sat down and looked around, forgetting that she was not an apprentice. Am I dreaming? she though, bewildered. Then, she stole a glance around the den to find some of her kithood friends, such as Aphyllakit and Shadowkit. Well, they both now ended in -paw, but she might accidentally slip sometimes and call them -kit. They might not be amused. Lotus gave an amused smile and trotted back over to her nest, fixing it with her paw. Later, she might go out and get some more moss to tuck into it to make it softer. If she was lucky, she might even be able to catch a bird, then stick the feathers around the edges. She eyeballed Shadowpaw's nest again, watching his form as it rose and fell with every breath. That was creepy, she was creepy. Let's just watch everyone as they sleep! She turned her head back and pawed at her nest, but she was getting increasingly bored. Lotus wasn't very good friends with any of the kits, but out of the whole den, Shadow had to be her closest. If she had to chose anyone to wake up, he was probably the one that wouldn't snap at her... as much.
Lotus padded over to his nest and prodded him with her paw. She stepped back and sat down. She didn't want to prod his side again, as that was annoying to any cat, so she simply whispered his name to see if he would get up. At least when he was up, she would have someone to talk to. At the moment she was extremely bored.

Shadow was finding it easier than he'd expected to get used to sleeping in this den, yet he still missed the ever-there presence of his sister, Rainkit. He often woke in the night and turned to see if she was awake, only to see her missing and remember spwhere he was. His ears would flicker back, then he'd allow his whiskers to twitch with mild amusement at the folly of his childish situation before settling back down to sleep some more. That night he hadn't awoken even once, so it was a bit of a surprise to him when he did.
At first it was the prod of a paw that caused him to stir. His ear flicks in confusion, yet he decides he must have imagined it when the sensation doesn't arise again, so he decides not to bother responding just yet. It was the whisper that gets more of a reaction. Okay, so Jackalfrost had merely whispered for him to meet him when he was ready, and this cat had whispered his name, yet the similarity caught his attention all the same and he blinks his eyes open. Raising his head with a yawn, he turns his eyes toward the exit, expecting to see the tortoiseshell tail of his retreating form. Yet someone else catches his eye, and he turns his head once more to see Lotuspaw sitting their staring at him expectantly. His ears flick forward in surprise, before he allows the ghost of a smile.
"Goodmorning" He greets, muffling another yawn as he blinks his eyes a few more times to clear his vision before stretching and sitting up. Once settled into a comfortable sitting position and facing her he allows his tail to curl over his paws before tilting his head in a subtle gesture of curiosity. "I must say, you look rather bored. How's training been so far?" Okay, so like him she's probably only had one day of training assuming she started the day after her ceremony as most did, yet it was a good question to ask and he found he truly cared for the answer. It would include her wellbeing too, and he found her state of wellness to be of interest too him too. 'This must be what it's like to have friends. Perhaps I ought to make a few more...' he muses, before deciding against it. He's not a sociable feline, no point pretending to be such.

"Good morning," Lotuspaw muses as Shadowoaw finally arises. It was funny to watch his state of confusion as she tried to awake him, and his surprised face as he saw her. From the way he looked expectantly to the cave entrance, she guessed he was looking for his mentor. Then, he commented on her bored face. She flicked an ear, in slight frustration and amusement, before responding, "It is quite boring when you have no one to talk to." Lotus did a quick survery of Shadowlaw, much like the one she did when they had first met. He was taller, and stronger, and... well older. He must have had training since the ceremony, as she did. She wondered who his mentor was, as she couldn't remember from the ceremony, through all her excitement. "Training has been going great, my mentor has made it easy for me to locate the camp if I'm ever lost," she paused and smiled, before continuing. "A tall rock can be seen from anywhere in Fireclan territory, and it is near the camp. That's helpful. All we've done so far is border patrol, basically. It was interesting to see all the clans. Treeclan is the best, I believe, besides us." Lotus gave a big smile. "I really like my mentor. I think we get along really well. Her name is Fallenmist. Who's yours? I can't seem to remember from the ceremony."

As the other greets him back, Shadow offers the ghost of a smile and a dip of his head, ears twitching slightly as he notes her observing him. It's something he's well familiar with, and he finds himself doing the same, noting the slight frustrated twitch of her ears and wondering what she might mean by it. Perhaps it's not directed at him, or maybe it's merely because she's bored. Others tend to frustrated when they're bored, though he doesn't tend to dwell on it much. He's not exactly the most empathetic, and he doesn't tend to get bored to easily seeing as there's always something to observe.
As she goes on speaking he notes how she speaks of her mentor. She seems to like her, which he finds himself strangely glad of, not liking the idea of Lotuspaw having a mentor she dislikes. He's not sure why, he's never really truly cared about much, he was even dismissive of his brother Stormpaw when he finally met him. Yet Lotuspaw he feels a little bit more drawn to, like they could actually be counted as friends. He hides a smile at the thought, and instead offers a nod, tilting his head sligh as she goes on to answer his question further. He nods at the mention of the rock. "Yes, I saw that rock on my own territory tour. I've only done that much so far, but it was great, my mentor knows heaps about basically everything, and he too seems to be very interested in what's going on with all the clans rather than just ours. I hope he's pleased with me so far." The last part he adds almost subconsciously. He's never really cared of opinions before. He neutralises himself, yet keeps a slight smile.
At the mention of Fallenmist he smiles. 'Fallenmist is my mother's friend. She says she used to be a kittypet, and she went missing for a time because they captured her after her two kits disappeared." His smiles falls, and he can't help but feel sorry for the young warrior. He clears his throats slightly and moves onto her questions, surprised she doesn't remember. "Jackalfrost. I think we get along pretty well." The ear closest to the exit twitches slightly, yet he keeps his attention on Lotus, reading her expressions and tones to decipher how she's feeling. It's always npbeen a habit of his, yet he's never truly cared for what he'll find. Now he finds himself hoping whatever he finds will be positive.

Lotuspaw listened to what Shadow had to say about the rock and his mentor. She still couldn't remember much of it through all the excitement. She remembered touching noses with Fallenmist, and Shadow sitting next to her, but she was so tired, along with overjoyed at the same time, it was hard to think. At the thought of Shadow's mentor being interested in other clans, she brightened a bit. She, too, was interested in what the other clans did and how they fought, what they ate, and what their territories looked like. This way, if they ever had a war, she would have the advantage, but it wasn't all because of fighting. She tended to stay away from fighting, but if needed, she'd do it. She was actually curious to see how good her fighting techniques were. As Shadowpaw then said that he hopped his mentor was pleased with him, Lotus gave him a slight look that said, How could he not? She then went on to try to make a joke for the first time. "I'm Shadowpaw! I'm the best warrior ever!" She hopped it wasn't offensive to him, even though it was mostly true, so she added, "He couldn't be anything but pleased with you." She offered him a warm smile.
Then he went on to talk about Fallenmist. This Lotuspaw listened to, because she wanted to know a lot about her mentor. She didn't know much, besides that Fallen was concerned about her safety, and she was indeed kind along with a bit strict, but not too much. She was very informative. Lotus smiled as Shadow said Fallenmist was his mother's friend. She was concerned about the part where Fallen went missing, as if she never came back, Lotus wouldn't have a mentor.
When Shadowpaw told Lotus that Jackalfrost, the deputy of Fireclan, was his mentor, she felt instantly stupid. How had she forgotten? At the time he was named, she did feel a bit jealous, but she quickly erased the feeling and felt very happy and somewhat proud for him. It was a great honour he had been given, and she had gotten a good mentor, too. "That's so cool! She told him, flicking her ears forward. "I don't know how I forgot that. Once you said it, the memory came back to me. But that's such a great honour. I'm happy for you!"

Shadow watches her curiously as she thinks, probably excited and tired and curious and happy all at the same time. Most new apprentices seemed to be, though he couldn't really same the same. It wasn't that he wasn't any otpf those things, he certainly was tired, but he didn't like to dwell on emotions much. They could be blinding. It was only that fact about him that stopped him from reacting to the barb coming straight from his friend's mouth. Like a Rose with thorns. It was spoken lightly, but he couldn't help but flinch a little, tensing slightly. Yet he manages to relax once more as she goes on, offering him a warm and happy smile. His ears twitch slightly, before her returns her smile. "And the same goes for you and your mentor" He offers in response, for some odd epreason hoping he's right. Why does he care so much for a cat he doesn't know? Of course most would describe his level of caring as simply a normal occurance of friendship, yet it felt...strange. Almost unnatural to him. Pleasant, he realises.
He watches as she thinks, letting his own thought wander as well. They seem to be stumbling a little bit more than the ph usually do. He's never considered a true friendship before, but he's starting to think this cat might be one to consider. He smiles slightly at the thought. Strange that he does that now. The expression neutralises once more and he gathers his scattered thoughts, mentally settling them into order rather than the chaotic mess they're in right now. This is inconseque, and he needs to learn to settle down a little more. He does so, for now, and continues to observe her, head tilted curiously.
When she goes on to gush at what an honour him being the deputy's apprentice is, and wondering over how she could possibly have forgotten, he finds his smile returning with a hint of amusement. He waits patiently as she rambles, quieting his emotions until they - along with his expression - settle back down to neutral indifference and he offers a shrug. "That is still to be decided. He may be the deputy, yes, but I hardly know him yet. I do hope you're right, though." He nods, as though to assure them both. He says nothing more though, not sure what else to say to her other than that. They're not exactly kits any more, he can't just wander off or offer to play a game. Can he? No. he shakes the thought off the instant it arises, thinking it childish.
