Puddlekit was staring at her reflection in a puddle outside of the barn. 'Is this really what I'm named after?' She thought to herself. 'It's kind of dumb.' She swatted at it to see what would happen, and naive as she was, she didn't see the splash at her face coming. She opened her mouth in surprise, face dripping wet. As the initial shock faded, an idea snuck into her mind.
Hiding behind one of the barn doors, she focused on a large puddle running next to the farmhouse's exit. She perked her ears to listen for the sound of approaching paws, and when she heard it, she raced out and leaped into the puddle. "Surprise!" She yowled, hoping to splash whoever it was.

Bellkit hadn't met anybody else yet. All the cats he knew were his mother and his siblings, and even then he hadn't really spoken to them, just knew them because they were his family. So when Bellkit saw another kit staring into a puddle he was more than a little intrigued. Why was she just sitting there and staring? Maybe she was imagining something, but what could there be to imagine in a puddle? When she splashed herself with the puddle water he couldn't help but laugh. It was possible that she was pretending to fish, but she didn't seem to understand how water worked.
Should he talk to her? Bellkit didn't actually have a friend so he probably should. If she was actually pretending to be fishing then it seemed like she might be somebody interesting to hang out with. So when she walked over to the barn doors Bellkit approached her and figured that he'd say hello and it would go great and then they would become best friends. Instead he got splashed with a load of water. He sputtered and stumbled backwards. Bellkit looked up in surprise at the other kit. "Wh-why would you do that? That was so mean!" Bellkit squealed as he began to shake out his fur. This was possibly the worst outcome he could have imagined for his first encounter with another cat.

Puddlekit gasped as she landed in the puddle, a loud laugh following it. She turned to the person she had splashed, grinning at his look of surprise. 'Gotcha!' She hopped out of the puddle and onto dry land, where she stood across from him and shook out her fur. "Oh, shut up. It was hilarious." She said with a snort, giving the tom a closer look. He was around her age, and he looked very familiar. She breathed in his scent, quickly recognizing it. He was her brother, Bellkit.
She thought back to his words. "That was so mean!" A look of confusion came across her face. How was that mean? "Can't you take a joke?"

Bellkit wasn't too sure he liked this cat. He had assumed that she was just some stranger, but as he shook his head and began to lick his paw and drag it over his ear he got a better look at the cat. Was that his sister? Why would his sister splash him like that? He supposed that her name was Puddlekit so it made some sort of sense, but it was a mean thing to do, especially with the cold chill creeping into the air. He shook out his pelt again. It was more the font half of him that was wet, but it wasn't enough water to actually soak him through, and it was already drying.
Bellkit huffed and sat down. He squinted at his sister as if she might splash him again. "I can take a joke just fine, maybe you're just not very good at making them."He stated, defending his sense of humour. Sure he had never actually joked with somebody else, but he thought that he was funny enough. Bellkit gazed down at the puddle then back up to Puddlekit. He wondered what it was that had given her the name.
