Smokypaw was sleeping in his new nest. Ah... This was really nice. He'd been first into the den and he'd been alone... So, he took the liberty to shove a centipede or two into an empty nest, he was sure would be claimed by one of the new apprentices. No one had seen him do it, and he planned on laughing in their face when they freaked.
No longer would he hide his true nature!
Cloudclan, this felt good! He was sure it was about to feel even better!

i must become a lionheart
Batpaw entered the den cheerfully, more or less bouncing from one nest to another. He had had a marvelous day, meeting Sparkpaw and Crowwing had been immense fun. He couldn't wait to tell his fathers all about it when he finally returned home. Just then though, his parents were far from his mind and Batpaw was incredibly tired. With a yawn the pale calico began hunting for a nest, as he hadn't made his own yet. Finally he decided on one that didn't have a cat-scent on it and settled in.
The tom closed his eyes and began to sleep, but after a short time he felt a squirming in his nest. The tom sprang up with surprise, looking down with wide eyes. It was with immense shock that he discovered a centipede squirming about in his moss. The young apprentice let out a yowl of triumph, absolutely delighted at the discovery. "A new pet!" He squealed with glee, scooping the small insect up. "What shall I name it?" He asked out loud to the den, certain someone would be awake to help him.

Smokypaw wasn't sure what he was expecting. A cheery apprentice who did seem surprised, but seemed rather... Happy to find centipedes in his nest was not really one of them. He guess he just had bad luck and a weirdo wandered into his trap instead of a normal cat who'd react by screaming. Tch. How boring. It even sounded like the weirdo was planning to keep them as pets!
Plus he smelled.
He huffed, lifting his head sharply, abandoning the facade of his sleep. "Maybe Cuckoo. To match his weird owner." He suggested in a less than friendly tone.

Lightkit decided to explore the nasty world of teenagers... the apprentices' den. Not many kits dared go there, but when she got bigger, Lightkit wanted to be an explorer. And to be an explorer, well, you had to be brave.
Lightkit was not used to walking and her muscles were frail and soft. Determinedly, she hauled herself towards the entrance. She dragged a mouse along with her, as a present.
Lightkit tipped her head and watched as Smokypaw placed an insect in Batpaw's bed, and then called him weird. He didn't seem very friendly.
"Hey, mister !"
Said Lightkit, who padded up to Smokypaw and Batpaw.
"That wasn't very nice."

Batpaw turned his head when an apprentice offered a suggestion. The tom was cheery but nature, but he wasn't a complete idiot. It seemed a pretty safe guess that the dark tom had been the one to put the insects in his nest, not that he minded of course. Batpaw had always found that when faced with adversity, it was best to simply smile; so smile he did. "That's a great name!" He agreed, placing the centipede back in the nest. "I'm Batpaw by the way."
His attention shifted when a kit wandered into the den, and Batpaw eyed in quizzically. Well, apparently it was just a very eager youngster. Nothing wrong with that. What was really touching was that she appeared to be trying to defend him. Batpaw purred. "It's fine, I don't mind. If you let every little thing bother you, the world would be an incredibly depressing place." He turned his gaze to Smokypaw and smiled in understanding. "I'm sure he was just bored and lonely and didn't know how to talk to someone about it." But the little charade had made Batpaw speak to him, so really it sounded like a smart plan.

((*COUGH* Actually, Smoky made sure he was alone while he stuffed the insects into Batpaw's future nest, so Lightkit couldn't have seen him. He's not a sloppy cat.))
Smokypaw huffed. "Do I look like I care?" He asked, side-eyeing the kit who'd walked in, pointing sharply to himself with a forepaw. He honestly didn't care what was mean or nice. He didn't want to bother with pretending he was nice anymore.
Then his attention lazily shifted back to the newly named Batpaw. The cloudy gray pelted apprentice rolled his eyes at Batpaw's friendly response. "... What kind of stupid thing is a bat, anyways?" He asked, not really wanting to give his own name. He was a bit irritated with that kit shouting at him, like the brat was accomplishing something. Tch.
Smokypaw turned in his nest and curled up, wanting to pretend he was asleep to make them both leave him alone, now that his scheme had failed. He thought Batpaw's stupid idealistic drivel was... Well... Stupid! The world that Batpaw described was a world without fun for cats like him, and he might as well disappear in that kind of world. Thankfully, that was not truly representative of the world.
He huffed at Batpaw's theory concerning him. He wasn't lonely. Bored, maybe... But it was the smelly apprentice's fault for making his boredom-killing plot fail. He didn't react how he was supposed to. Tch.

(Sorry!)
Lightkit sighed, and the tapered tip of her tail curled skywards. She did not like this situation at all. Apart from Batpaw. He was nice! Even if he did smell of Iceclan.
"Will you be my mentor?" asked Lightkit.
She then watched as Smokypaw turned over in his bed. "I think he's sleeping" she whispered loudly, and attempted to prod his furry flank.

"Well no," Batpaw admitted with a shrug. "But that's never stopped me before. He figured Smokypaw was an acquired taste and he'd have to get used to him. Batpaw was willing to give him a chance though. Lightkit also seemed incredibly interested. "A nocturnal animal, they attack in swarms....Don't you remember the bat infestation moons ago? Even I know about it and I'm not from here." It had only been a few moons ago when Fireclan had practically been taken over by bats and rat attacks.
He looked down at Lightkit and laughed. "I'm only an apprentice myself, I can't mentor you!" That, and Oceanstar definitely wouldn't let an Iceclan cat mentor one of his kits. He watched as Lightkit poked Smokypaw and huffed. "You might lose a paw if you do that child."

As soon as Lightkit tried to prod Smokypaw's side, he immediately dragged himself and his nest further away. It was clear he was still awake and rather grouchy. He lifted his head just to give Batpaw a condescending look.
"Yeah, no. I'm apprentice aged and there never was any bat infestation in my life time. You must've been dropped on your head as a child, and it broke your sense of time." He told Batpaw in not quite a growl, but definitely a hostile tone.
