Shiningflame sat by the water, listening to the sounds the reeds made on the breezy day. She smiled and tuned around when she heard another cat. "Hello,"  she greeted.

Puppypaw traveled down the river, watching the fish play in its icy water.

She tipped her head curiously. "Hello there.. Oh! You must be Shiningflame!"
She knew most of her clan-mate's names, even if she had never met them before.

"I am Puppypaw, Silverwhisker's granddaughter! She's my mentor."

"Nice to meet you Puppypaw," she said. "Who are your parents then? Most cats don't know their grandparents," she asked rather curiously.

"Pinyondapple is my mother, and my daddy is Hazelclaw. I'm not sure if you would know them, but you might know my siblings. There's, um.. Brightpaw, Poppypaw, Willowpaw, Almondfire and Aloepaw! Some of them are quite harsh, though. They're not very emotionally intelligent."

"What about you, Shiningflame? Who's your family?"

"Well I know Hazelclaw, he was my mentor, and Bright paw." she responded with a smile. "I'm Rainlight's daughter. I'm not sure who my dad is, and I have no chance at listing all my siblings. I don't even know all their names."

[Puppypaw]

"Rainlight's great. I think it's wonderful to be part of such a big family.. it means you have more people willing to look out for you!"

Puppypaw sighed softly.

"All cats should look out for each other anyway. I know it's unconventional, but I wish we weren't so divided by borders."

Shiningflame nodded. "That would make a lot of sense, but without fueds I think all the anger would get pent up and cats woud turn on eachother.

"..I understand. But we could advance so much if we all could just help each other! I wonder if the laws of nature prohibit unity.. maybe some things are beyond us. But you're right, Shiningflame; we are emotional, and our emotions have the tendency to collide."

She purred.

"I saw two mice fighting the other day. ..It was cute! They squeaked a lot. They clearly had business to take care of, so I left them alone."

"How was your training? Mine is slow, but Silverwhisker's really kind. She took on a lot of responsibilities when Darkstar disappeared, and even delivered my ceremony. I think she deserves to be a leader, or at least a deputy!"

"Good. My training was good. I'm sorry yours was slow, but atleast it didn't come to a complete stop. I know that happens sometimes."

"I know. Some apprentices have to get completely new mentors. I guess it's not terrible, though. You get to learn from two different adults."
