Falconpaw sniffed the air as he was asked, puzzled at first by all the new scents. He opened his mouth, hoping the scent glands inside would help him distinguish the scents better. Shiningflame was the most prominent scent, although he was fairly sure his mentor wanted him to hunt prey and not her. His ears perked up as he caught a whiff of something. "I think I smell prey," he mewed, not being able to tell what kind of prey it was, "it's... over there, in those bushes," he gestured to a bush a few fox-lengths away. His ears perked up a faint rustling from the bush as well, only confirming his suspicions. "I can't tell what kind of prey it is though..."

Shiningflame watched her apprentice carefully, understanding how hard it could be. It wasn't long ago since she was figuring out what was what based on the scent of the dead animals she ate. When Falconpaw located a price of prey, Shiningflame sniffed the air to, confirming that it was acctually prey and not a fox or something. "That is a mouse under that bush." she confirmed, nodding her head to the bush. "See if you can catch it."

Falconpaw nodded and began to creep forward. His large paws landed on the ground in softs thuds, scaring the mouse from it's bush as he drew closer. Keeping calm, the dusky tabby raced forward and pounced clumsily onto the mouse. He clawed at it's back until it stopped moving, stating at the catch for a few moment, a little proud at his first catch. Falconpaw picked up the mouse and trotted back to Shiningflame. It wasn't the cleanest catch, but he had managed to get the mouse.

"Good job. You will eventually get better, but that was an amazing first catch." she said, remembering her first attempt at catching prey. The first mouse managed to escape. "For a cleaner kill you may wish to try a bite to the neck to kill it," she said, glancing at the sky, "But you can work on that on your own. It's getting late so let's get back to camp. You did well on your first day, so tomorrow is a free day. Meet me at sunhigh the next day. If you want prey, try to eat before then." she added and made her way back to camp. (I'll make a new thread once you respond to this.)

Falconpaw couldn't help but flush in response to his mentor's praise. He instinctively looked down at his paws. He wasn't really one for attention. He looked back up and nodded fervently at her advice, remembering to keep it in mind for the next time he needed to hunt. "Alright," the dusky tom mewed through his catch, padding alongside his mentor on his way back to camp. We wondered if Mothpaw would be interested in hearing about his first catch? Probably not, it wasn't all that exciting...
