Cherrypaw padded carefully through the muggy graveyard, her ears perked. Of course, she had no idea of what significance this place had truly held to two-legs, but the bobtail still understood that there was something eerie in the air here. Cherrypaw wasn't one easily spooked, but a place like this could shake even the most confident of felines. It was then that she saw another cat, a ghost. The cat had pale fur with hellish, dark markings, and glowing eyes. It was exactly like what Cherrypaw imagined a Cloudclan spirit to be like. Stiff with fear, Cherrypaw tried to tell herself not to be so childish, and approached the figure."Hello, there." Cherrypaw called out, her mew unusually quiet.

mothpaw knew that it probably wasn't the best idea to explore the territory. it was too late, she was too young, she was too alone. maybe with a friend - falconpaw? she considered - but certainly not without company. she was no scaredy-cat, but there was something in the air that made her jump at the slightest of sounds. which was why, when she heard cherrypaw's voice, she was so startled.
"hi?" the greeting came out in a high-pitched squeak, and embarassment rolled over mothpaw in waves, swallowing her fear whole. "umm. i'm sorry... for that," she mumbled apologetically, not sure whether the apprentice could hear her. slowly, she moved closer as if wantig to make sure that, in fact, the cat in fornt was her posed no threat. "i'm... mothpaw."

Coming closer, Cherrypaw saw that it was no spirit at all, and the cat was just apprentice-aged. She mentally kicked herself for making such a silly assumption, letting her fears get the best of her.. It wasn't like a warrior at all.
"I'm Cherrypaw." She choked out, reflexively dipping her head. Looking over the young apprentice, Cherrypaw could see why she would mistake her for a ghost, Mothpaw looked absolutely ethereal. For what felt like the first time in her life, Cherrypaw actually felt flustered.
"It's nice to meet you, Mothpaw, uhm. What are you doing out here?" Cherrypaw asked, stumbling over her words.

what mothpaw was doing out here. what was mothpaw doing out here? good question. "just... out and about," she grinned. "actually, i'm not sure why i'm here. i'm not even sure i'm allowed to be here. oh boy. my first day and i've already messed things up." she swallowed, hoping that the genuine anxiety behind her words came off jokingly.
the coldness had begun to sink in, seeping through her fur and into her bones, and mothpaw had to suppress a shiver. "really, i was just wandering around the territory," she admitted. "and, well, i guess my subconscious brought me here," she added with a thoughtful smile. "guess i have a pretty dumb subconscious."

Cherrypaw nodded as she listened to Mothpaw, relaxing. This was just a cat, nothing more, and it was wrong of her to think of her as some sort of goddess when she wasn't. The pelt Mothpaw was born with meant nothing, and judging from her words, Mothpaw was just average. A very pretty face, but still average.
"No, this place is fine." Cherrypaw offered her reassurance. "I mean, it's kinda creepy here, but it's also pretty cool. And sometimes you can even find prey." She said warmly, settling down and letting her friendly personality show.

somehow, cherrypaw's words reassured her and mothpaw relaxed slightly, smiling in the hopes that if she didn't look like somebody who should be worried, then she wasn't somebody who should be worried. "it is cool," she agreed, noticing, for the first time, how bright the stars were, dotted against the dark sky, and pretty the slabs of stones were, glowing under the moonlight. really, she should come here more often.
"prey?" mothpaw echoed, something emerging within that green gaze. "what kind of prey?" her eyes glazed over as she recalled childhood dreams of hunting for the clan, running through wide, open fields with nothing above her but the hot, burning sun and the intent of bringing her kill back for the clan. "maybe you could teach me... how to hunt, i mean," she suggested. "it can't be that hard, right? i'm a good student."

"Well, it's usually just mice and voles, you won't see many birds or rabbits around here.." Cherrypaw explained, feeling extremely knowledgeable, and glad that she could help out a newer apprentice. She wondered if this was what it was like to be a mentor, and if so, Cherrypaw looked forward to being a warrior and getting her own apprentice.
Cherrypaw wasn't very confident in her hunting skills, since her tail made stalking rather difficult. The she-cat hesitated, and then nodded, thinking that she could at least show Mothpaw a few things. "Uh, yeah, sure!" Cherrypaw tried to act like her mentor, Oceanstar, would. "Try to find something first, and I'll show you how to catch it."

her shoulders drooped a little, but she soon perked right up again. bringing back a mouse or vole wasn't exactly going to make cats sit up and take notice, but it was her first catch. and all without being taught - well, by a warrior, anyway. though the she-cat did look as if she would be setting paw in the warriors' den any day now. mothpaw was surprised that she felt saddened at the thought that she might not share a den with cherrypaw much longer.
"there," the tabby whispered, almost immediately, and couldn't help but feel a surge of pride. she was a proper fireclan apprentice now. "a squirrel. my favourite - there!" she hissed, and resisted the urge to leap forward and sink her claws into it. she might not know much about hunting, but she knew that nursery techniques wouldn't work on a squirrel as well as they did on a dead leaf. incredibly, she managed to stay still, eyes fixed on the squirrel's bushy, twitching tail. "what now?"

Cherrypaw narrowed her eyes, taking a moment to locate the squirrel that Mothpaw was now hunting. She lowered her voice, making sure not to move around too much and risk scaring it away already. "Well, first you have to stalk it. Have you learned the hunter's crouch yet?" Most apprentices knew at least that, Cherrypaw herself had learned it as a kit from Sandstep.
"Crouch, with your tail above the ground so it doesn't disturb any leaves, and stalk forward, quietly and careful. When you think you're within jumping distance, wriggle your hips, jump, and make sure you're fast." Squirrels were rather hard to catch, and Cherrypaw was worried that Mothpaw would be hard on herself if she missed it. The older apprentices tensed her muscles, ready to take chase if Mothpaw messed anything up.

mothpaw nodded silently, not looking away from the squirrel, and demonstrated. she listened to cherrypaw's instructions, not because she didn't know them, but because she wanted to impress the older apprentice. that, and she liked squirrels. slowly, she lowered her small body to just above the ground, letting her tail hover. it felt odd, but she wasn't the experienced one here, so she didn't say anything.
finally confident that she had it right, the apprentice started to move, albeit slowly. after what seemed like forever, she was no more than a tail-length away from her prey. careful not to disturb the leaves underfoot, she readjusted her crouch so that her hind legs were tucked beneath her slender frame.
she jumped. for a heartbeat, a terrifying heartbeat, mothpaw thought she had missed. but then she felt something move beneath her paws, and looked down to see the stunned squirrel. she struck its spine, striking it again when nothing happened, and breathed out when it stopped moving, black eyes dull. "i caught it!" she celebrated, her smile wide.
