BeechstarCrystalbird was dreaming. She dreamt of a forest, much like the one that more or less encompassed Treeclan's territory. With tall trees that seemed to aim to reach the heavens, during a beautiful Greenleaf with vibrant colors that made everything seem to almost shine whenever the sunlight hit it. It was a glowing forest of sunshine and leaves. Crystalbird was perched in a tree that was strangely taller than the rest, where she could see the rest of the forest, from a stable perch. She could see birds flitting about here and there, the wind blowing through their feathers in excruciating detail, that honestly should've been too far away for her to see properly. It was a nice, warm, peaceful dream of beautiful scenery. She sighed, from her perch as she laid down on the branch, curled out. "Not a speck of snow to be seen...." She whispered softly to herself, smiling as she did so.

Beechstar watched her from a higher branch. He thought of his time as a deputy. It was a short period of his life, but the responsibility was overwhelming. He remembered when Spiritstar picked him, a non-clan born cat, to become leader. He had received more hatred then than any other time in his life. Cats were constantly at his throat and always questioning his decisions.
He saw himself in Crystalbird, who now had her own challenges as a non-clan born deputy. Personally, if Yellowburr would have been alive during his leadership, Beechstar would have killed him in the middle of the camp.
The former leader dropped down to the branch above Crystalbird. His ginger pelt glimmered in the sunlight. "A deputy should never relax. You should be always on your toes."

Crystalbird inhaled sharply as she heard the branch above her move, a sign that someone had joined her. Her fur was standing was standing on end, but she forced it to lie flat as she looked up at the cat above her branch.
She suddenly seemed to realize she was dreaming. The tom-cat who was quite literally glowing was a huge tip-off. Cats just... Didn't do that, really. She didn't recall ever meeting a tom like this, so she figured her mind probably fabricated a tom-cat from some cat she'd seen whilst roaming in Twolegplace or somewhere. He probably wasn't a real cat. Dreams were weird like that.
She huffed. "Why do I have to be paranoid in my dreams, as well?" She asked, more than a touch of sarcasm permeating her tone. She blamed the dream for her not noticing the tom before. Usually, she was hyperaware of her surroundings.

"This is no ordinary dream." Beechstar mewed and held his chin a little higher. He knew a little about the she-cat. The former leader still watched over his clan and was very upset about it's condition at the moment. He hoped his remaining alive family members would be safe. Beechstar preferred them to be alive.
"So, Crystalbird." Her name reminded him of an old medicine cat. One that would visit him in his dreams during his leadership. "Why don't you believe in Cloudclan?"

Crystalbird stared at the dream-tom. "Dreams, by definition, aren't normal." She pointed out. More or less anyone would describe dreams as weird. That was simply their nature, given that they were likely created by your imagination. Or at least, ones imagination played a part.
"Never seen any proof of Cloudclan." She shrugged. "I grew up fine without that belief. Besides, this whole Cloudclan and them guiding the clans with weird omens and stuff... Seems a bit unrealistic and fantastical."

Beechstar turned away. "Yes, my dreams were always unusual as well." His tail flicked and he thought of the dreams that Cloudclan used to send him, even as a young tom. Dreams that convinced him to join Treeclan or the dreams he had as a leader.
He turned back and blinked at her. "I also grew up without Cloudclan. It took me a while to understand what they are and what they do." Like this, for example.

Crystalbird dismissed the dream-tom's insinuation he had history, figuring this tom was some sort of manifestation of guilt she wasn't sure she had for not believing in Cloudclan, despite being a clan deputy. Since she wasn't really sure where this dream-tom came from, she figured she couldn't be that guilty.
She shrugged. "I'm pretty sure I get what the rest of Treeclan believes them to be. Spirits from some afterlife who have some degree of influence on the world of the living. Like I said, unrealistic and fantastical."
