Moonfur awoke, jumping up onto her paws when she remembered what was happening that day. 'Of course!' she thought to herself, quickly padding out of the Warriors' Den. The warrior winced a little at the cold chill in the air, but she supposed it would have to do. Making her way to the Apprentices' Den, the she-cat took a step inside. Her blue eyes scanned over the smaller, sleeping cats before she spotted the two apprentices she was looking for "Firepaw! Shiningpaw!" she called softly. "It's your assessment!" After delivering the message, she backed out of the den, walking to the edge of camp next to the exit.

Firepaw was sleeping in the apprentices den. When she heard a soft call, calling Firepaw, and this other name she never heard of. Firepaw strained her open, 'I guess today's the final assessment day...' She stretched her way out of the den and padded towards Moonfur. "Hey Moonfur! We're doing out final assessment today, right?" she questioned.

Shiningpaw was already awake when she heard Moonfur's call. She was too excited to sleep! She had already enjoyed a small mouse, and groomed her fur. She was beyond ready for this day, after all, she had waited moons longer than she should've. She also heard the name of a cat unknown to her. Who was this Firepaw?

Shiningpaw trotted up to the pair. She gave Firepaw a bright smile. She hoped the other apprentice wouldn't be annoyed that they were both assessed on the same day, since Moonfur had been assigned to give Shiningpaw her assessment.

"I'm guessing your Firepaw?" she asked, her eyes twinkling.

Firepaw was talking with Moonfur and she turned around when this other apprentice padded towards them. "Yes I'm Firepaw" she said, "And I guess you're Shiningpaw, right? Nice to meet you!" 'I can't wait when we become warriors together!' she thought.

[Moonfur]

[/b] the warrior asked. She was glad to see they were along. There would be some apprentices that wouldn't like having to do their assessment with another cat, she was pretty sure, so it was good neither seemed to feel that way. Making her way just next to the camp exit, she faced them once more, waiting for them to follow.[/ul][/font]

Firepaw looked at Moonfur when she called them. "Come on Shiningpaw!" she said, "Moonfur's calling us!" She came to Moonfur and leaned against her. "Yeah? Why'd you call us?"

[Shiningsun]

Shiningpaw smiled, she was please that Firepaw wasn't upset with sharing her big moment.

"Of course we're ready!" she said with a soft laugh. She really couldn't wait!

[Moonfur]

[/b] Moonfur repeated to Firepaw. "We'll be doing hunting first, then fighting." she said, having made up her mind about the order. The warrior continued on walking, leading the apprentices to a clear area. She was glad they were excited, but it was no surprise. It would be much harder to find an apprentice who wasn't hyped to become a warrior.

Firepaw jumped around happily. "Yay! Fighting and hunting! Yay!" she yowled. Firepaw followed Moonfur. 'I can't wait to become a warrior!' she thought again. "Are we doing hunting or fighting first?" she asked Moonfur.

"Hunting, right?" Shiningpaw repeated Moonfur's previous statement. The golden she-cat was much better at hunting than battle, so this was no problem for her. She dipped her head to Moonfur, waiting for further instructions. Shiningpaw closed her olive eyes, and took a deep breath. She was going to be a warrior after today, and that was finally setting in.

This assessment was so far the most important task of her life.

Firepaw looked at Shiningpaw. "This is so exciting!" she said, jumping around, "Well, do you know what we're gonna hunt?" She scented the air and smelled shrew, mice, and rabbit. "Moonfur! Can I show you that I can catch a rabbit?" she asked.

[/b] she tasted the air, picking up the scents of multiple small animals around. Though it was leaf-bare, she was pretty sure they could manage the task. "Okay.. both of you, find two pieces of prey and bring them back here." she said.
Her own assessment had been to catch three, of certain species, but she wouldn't be that specific. She hadn't had it during the cold moons, so of course it would have been easier for her to find prey to catch.

"Start when you're ready."

After Firepaw scented the air, she dashed into the undergrowth. She stopped when the smell of rabbit was clear. She crouched down low, making paw steps impossible to hear. She was a tail length behind the rabbit. She sprang out from the grass and clawed the rabbit. The rabbit struggled to get out of Firepaw's strength. Firepaw ended it with a killing bite to the neck. 'Whew! Rabbit went well!' she thought, 'I could impress my mentor! What did I not catch before? A bird!' She scented the air and found a tint of starling. 'Yes, this is it!' She crouched into hunting position and narrowed her amber eyes. She leaped, but the bird flew away. She chased it and when it got low enough for Firepaw's reach, she clawed it towards the ground and gave it a killing bite. 'That should be it!' she thought, holding both the rabbit and starling, and started to go back to where Moonfur was.

Shiningpaw nodded, then silently trotted off opposite of Firepaw to find prey. She tasted the air, and quickly scented a rabbit. Shiningpaw's greatest strength was her speed, so catching a rabbit would be a fun task for her. Her olive eyes scanned the barren prairie, until she found a small jackrabbit, a few cat's lengths away from her. Silently, the apprentice crouch, and stalked toward her prey. When she got close enough, she sped up, and pounced. She bit the back of the rabbit's neck, allowing it a quick death.

Shiningpaw quickly buried her kill, and made a mark in the sand to show where it was hidden. Shiningpaw moved farther into FireClan territory, not smelling much. Finally, she caught the smell of a mouse. She took in a deep breath, and relaxed herself. The golden she-cat looked around her surroundings, before finally spotting the mouse that she had smelled. She sent a quick prayer up to CloudClan, and made her move. Silently, she crept toward the mouse. She needed to make this kill. After what felt like an eternity of stalking, she lowered herself into a hunter's crouch. The mouse moved closer to her, unaware of his new fate. Finally, she sprung, and caught the mouse with her front paw, smacking it with the other. She quickly bit its throat, killing the prey quickly. A sigh of relief escaped Shiningpaw, and she held the mouse firmly in her jaws.

The golden apprentice silently followed her own scent to the place where she buried her first kill, the rabbit. She sat the mouse down, dug the rabbit from the earth, then picked up both kills with her mouth. She ran quickly back to Firepaw and Moonfur, dropping her work at the warrior's feet.

"Here," she said quietly, dipping her head.

Firepaw came to Moonfur. "Here ya go!" she said happily, "I caught a starling! You impressed?" She saw Shiningpaw coming. "Hey Shiningpaw!" Firepaw took a glance at what Shiningpaw caught. "A mouse and rabbit? Look! I caught a rabbit and a starling!" she bragged, sticking out her tongue.
