Squirrelkit lay stretched out in her nest, contently enjoying the warmth. She'd taken the softest moss and feathers from other nests in the nursery, and now she had a perfect resting place. The little she-kit had just finished eaten a fresh, plump mouse, and her stomach felt full and heavy.
It was around mid-day, and leaf-bare's pale rays were shining into the nursery, making it perfect for sunbathing. Since she was a kit, all Squirrelkit really did was loaf around, eating up all she could and relaxing while waiting to be an apprentice. She also eavesdropped on othre cat's conversations, which was easy, as no one ever took much notice of a kit.
Squirrelkit felt something brush up against her, and turned her head, her amber eyes gleaming. "Can I help you?"

littlekit had been meandering along, not really looking where she was going, when she brushed against a she-kit. looking at her youthful features, they were no doubt younger, though, really, they were around the same size as herself, being, well, a little kit. she offered a tentative smile, not quite sure whether to sit down.
she settled for an awkward crouch, her small head at quite an awkward angle in order to meet her eye level. "no," she responded. "i mean, i'm sure that at some point you can help me, but not right this moment." her pale brown eyes sparkled. "i'm littlekit. you can probably guess why i'm called that."

"Littlekit, huh?" Squirrelkit repeated slyly, tipping her head to the side, looking at the small she-kit. "That's just a nicer word for runt. It suits you, though." She spoke callously, the tip of her long tail twitching from side to side.
"I'm Squirrelkit." She introduced herself, not explaining her name, as it was obvious enough. Squirrelkit had a reddish-brown pelt, and she lived somewhere that squirrels were common prey.

her mouth curved downwards, forming a small frown. "i suppose it is," she admitted with a flick of her tail. "but, then again, i am a runt," she said, stating the obvious. she peered down at herself, as if checking to make sure that she hadn't magically become bigger overnight. "anyway, autumndust didn't have many other options," she said with a toothy smile.
"squirrelkit," she mused. subconsciously, her tail curled up almost, as if she was imitating her companion's namesake. "it suits you!" she exclaimed with a wide smile, almost as if celebrating the fact. "are you as fast as a squirrel, though?" she asked, brown eyes gleaming. "that would be hard, even for you."

"Hmm, I don't know." Squirrelkit responded, thinking intently about Littlekit's question. She knew that TreeClan cats weren't inherently fast, so speed would be a unique trait. "The only squirrels I've seen are dead ones." Squirrelkit flicked her tail. She certainly enjoying eating them, though she found the fur to be a little bothersome. Feathers were irritating as well, Squirrelkit often wondering if fish would be any better.
"I guess we'll find out when I'm an apprentice." She shrugged.

littlekit giggled at squirrelkit's swords. it was funny, even if it was dark. it was odd thinking of the ginger she-kit's namesake as the same thing that cats ate everyday. her eyes widened at the morbid thought, but quickly relaxed. the younger kitten wouldn't want to know what she was thinking. it would probably traumatize her, scar her for life, dare she say. "it shouldn't be long," she said. "before your apprentice ceremony, i mean. i'm sure arrowstar's just busy. what with the rebellion and everything." her amber eyes were earnest, her tail flicking from side to side with an interesting rhythm. flick, flick, flick.

Squirrelkit's eyes widened, and the fur on her spine lifted as a sign of fear. "Do you actually think that there's going to be a rebellion?" Squirrelkit asked, awe in her voice. She knew that many cats were unhappy with how Treeclan was being run, but it didn't seem like an organized group of cats with the power to overthrow Arrowstar himself. "And if there is.. uhm, are you going to side with the rebels?"

littlekit nodded solemnly. "yellowburr isn't the only one. a lot of cats agree with him." anxious amber eyes flicked to squirrelkit, quickly dropping to her tiny paws. "maybe enough to, you know, overthrow arrowstar." her tail curled around her paws, and her ears flattened against the sides of her head, worried. "no, uhm... i don't know." a pang went through her as she realized that she meant it, and she gave squirrelkit a panicked smile.

Squirrelkit tipped her head to the side, listening to Littlekit talk with her interest piqued. To Squirrelkit, the situation was so black and white that it was absolutely impossible not to know which side one was on. Either you were for the reformation of Treeclan, or you weren't. "But.. Arrowstar has nine lives, it would be really hard to beat him." She pointed out one of her concerns. "Well, do you think outsiders should be allowed in Treeclan?"
