❝ Would you Kill ❞ Snailtail had decided to spent the day patrolling the outskirts of Rockclan. He'd brought others with him but was mostly silent, walking along. Since the news that Rockclan would be moving to a new home came out, he'd taken to checking the borders more often. They would be leaving the familiar Rockclan territory behind soon, and he wasn't sure what he thought about it.
"I think I'll miss this place," he muttered, slipping into the thick grazing fields. A flock of the twoleg sheep were milling about in the corner grazing together, and in the distance he could spot a couple of the black and white cows. He'd always found the animals strange and hoped they stayed well out of his way. "How about we cross through here?"

When Snailtail had asked him to join the border patrol, Flintpaw had been surprised. No one ever asked him to go out with them. He had eagerly joined. What had worried him was that Snailtail seemed to be wandering off a little too far. Didn't Cloverstar want them to stay in camp or a safer place? Flintpaw just flicked his tail and tried to ignore his thoughts.
When they reached the field, Flintpaw was wary. He had never seen these animals before. "I don't know. It doesn't look safe to me."

Raggedwolf made up the last member of the patrol, sweeping back and forth after the two cats to make sure everything was clear. He knew of Snailtail's wandering nature. Being born of two Deathclanners would do that to you, he reckoned. Still, they were friends and he loved him for it. The apprentice Flintpaw, he did not know, but he seemed smart.
"We should probably head back soon," he agreed, flicking his thickly-furred head. "But let's go just a bit further up first. Maybe we'll find some food to take back with us. The clan will need all its strength soon."

❝ Would you Kill ❞ Snailtail was glad to have his friend Raggedwolf beside him, and happy to have Flintpaw tagging along as well. The apprentice had seemed like such a worrier that he'd wanted to bring him out for a day of fun and relaxing. Rockclan was still safe, at least for now. He hoped Flintpaw could see that.
"I agree." Snailtail ducked under one of the broken fences and hurried into the thicker grass. He approached the sheep, ears flicking excitedly. They looked like awful fun to chase, but today probably wasn't the day for it. "Just a quick hunt." He separated from the group, winding his way around the herd. He was stalking a rabbit, nibbling away at a grain stalk. Snailtail wasn't really known for his speed but he leaped at the creature anyway, and with a startled flick of its tail it began bounding away, into the group of sheep. The grey tabby gave chase, resulting in frightened bleats and the stamping of hooves. As a group, the herd of sheep turned and began stampeding towards Raggedwolf and Flintpaw.

Of course the two warriors wanted to continue on. But Flintpaw refused to be a coward in front of them. He followed Raggedwolf and Snailtail silently onto the plain. He glanced nervously at the sheep and tried to act like they weren't there. When the rabbit was spotted, he decided that it would be best for Snailtail to catch it.
Before he knew it, the sheep were coming at him. He froze in fear.

Raggedwolf had also split away from the group, though he lingered close enough to Flintpaw to keep an eye on him. The apprentice was still young and obviously nervous. Something had caught his attention though, a smooth black rock placed on top of one of the fences. It seemed an odd place for it, but was very obviously there for a reason. His eyes narrowed with curiosity but before he could give it a good look a rumbling started, drawing his attention.
Raggedwolf spun, fur spiking at the sudden stampede. He looked around for Snailtail, but not seeing his friend he instead rushed for Flintpaw, who appeared frozen. "Move!" He yowled, rushing at the dark tom. He shoved his shoulder, attempting to bash the tom forward and get him moving. "Move or be trampled."

❝ Would you Kill ❞ The sheep were everywhere. Snailtail was blinded by flying hooves and fur. Every now and then he caught a brief glimpse of blue sky before it was swallowed once again. Rapid bleating deafened him to all else and Snailtail ran blind, trying to dodge the churning hooves.
A flash of silver caught his eye, but when Snailtail turned to look it had disappeared. For just a brief moment he thought he'd seen another cat, a stranger. It was ludicrous and not something he had time to debate over. Snailtail continued running, hearing Raggedwolf's familiar voice over the din. He tried desperately to run in his friend's direction, ducking and dodging through the large bodies. A stray hoof caught his flank and Snailtail stumbled briefly. The brief lapse was enough. Another hoof caught up behind and dug into his spine and Snailtail tripped, screeching wildly. Again and again he was struck as the stampede continued, until his screeches faded and only Snailtail's broken body remained.

Flintpaw turned to Raggedwolf with wide eyes. The shove pushed him back to reality and he sprinted into the opposite direction. The apprentice stopped abruptly when he heard his clanmate's screams. He looked desperately for the tabby. His ear's flattened against his head when he saw Snailtail's crushed body. "Snailtail!"

Flintpaw thankfully moved under his guidance, giving Raggedwolf the opportunity to turn and scan for his friend. "Snailtail!" He called, hearing his friend's cries. Without a thought he plunged headlong into the remainder of the stampede and disappeared. When the dust finally settled and the sheep had moved on to graze elsewhere, Raggedwolf was left bloody and broken but still moving, limping towards the crumpled body of his friend. "Snailtail," he gasped again, collapsing beside the lifeless silver body. His body shook with pain but he resolutely ran his tongue a few times over Snailtail's pelt. "Rest now, my friend."
With a last sigh Raggedwolf allowed his body to drop and slowly his eyes closed. Raggedwolf too, was dead.

[blockuote] Redfern had been out for a walk, and had stumbled upon the presence of Flintpaw and two of her Rockclan warriors. The red deputy rushed forward, but was already clearly too late. "Flintpaw, are you ok?" She asked briskly, already examining the bodies of Snailtail and Raggedwolf. "We must take them back to camp." He in the very least looked unwounded to her eyes, but she would need to be sure later. She picked up the larger form form of Raggedwolf, leaving Snailtail's smaller build to Flintpaw and began carrying the two dead warriors back to camp.
