As was to be expected for this time of year, the hard, frost-locked ground of winter had thawed, and a good deal of the snow that had previously been atop it had melted, so that every step Redfang took was punctuated by a squelch as the mud sucked at his paws. He grimaced in distaste; very few things could sour Redfang's mood, but mud was one of them. He lifted a paw for closer inspection, and grumbled under his breath when he noticed that some of the mud that had made it farther up his leg was now dry. Aside from the poor condition of the earth, it was a wonderful day; the sun was shining and it was pleasantly warm, with the very first scents of spring in the air. Redfang focused on these things instead of on the ground at his feet, and found that his mood improved significantly. He hadn't started this walk with any particular goal in mind; if he found prey, he would hunt; if he wound up near a border, perhaps he'd stroll along its length for a while. It was just nice to be on the prairie, and he felt a smile - not a mischievous grin, but a smile - form on his muzzle as he enjoyed the heat of the sun on his ruddy pelt. He was distracted by the scent of another cat nearby, and he looked about curiously; the smell didn't seem to be coming from any one direction, and he could not tell where the cat was. "Hello?" he called amiably, his gaze wandering lazily about the area around him.
