Brightwing sighed. "He will." 'He has to.' She doubted she deserved a clear conscience... But she couldn't help but wish for any validation that the choices she was making weren't... Wrong. "Are you going to leave now, or do you want to talk about something?" She asked bluntly.

Swanfrost blinked, surprised by her harsh question. "What the hell us wrong with you?" She snapped, officially irritated. She was acting completely out of the ordinary. Swanfrost didn't sign up for this.

Brightwing laughed dryly. "A lot of things, apparently." Apparently she'd caught Swanfrost off guard. Maybe the devon rex would finally decide that the sandy tabby wasn't worth the trouble and leave. It's what she expected.

Swanfrost let out a deep breath of air, stepping forward. She gently rested her chin on Brightwing's shoulder, ears flattening against her head. "Whatever you're going through... you don't need to push me away, okay?" She couldn't help but feel scared. If Brightwing suddenly turned on her, she had one less friend. And she needed a lot more of those. But so did Brightwing.

Brightwing stiffened at the contact. She forced her muscles to relax again, shakily taking a deep breath. She was rather... Strange about physical contact, especially if she wasn't the instigator. She shakily nodded her head. "I-I can't talk about it... It'll sound dumb..." She whispered softly.
((.... Huh. Bright trusts Swan more than I thought she did.

Swanfrost closed her eyes for a moment before stepping back, though she didn't make a lot of distance between them again. Brightwing was hesitant about physical contact, so maybe if she stayed close she would talk to her. "It won't, I promise." She kept eye contact, wanting Brightwing to trust her.
(I'm kind of experimenting with a whole new side of Swanfrost, she's never been in this situation)

Brightwing exhaled as Swanfrost backed off a bit. She hesitated, as silence occupied the space between them for several, long moments. She was scared to be honest. She honestly was. "I just... I'm trying to protect him."

Swanfrost forced herself to keep eye contact, for once completely serious. There was no room for sarcasm now. "Protect him from what?" She pressed, leaning a bit closer as she waited for an answer, her large ears perked.

Brightwing sighed. "I don't really know why you stick around either... Cats don't like me. If they seem to, they decide I'm a bad thing to keep around later." She looked away and pawed at the ground. "I just get my friends hurt. Whether it was technically me or someone else doing the hurting is irrelevant. Still my fault. Mudpaw'll be fine if he can just... Stay away from me. It's all fine. He'll be fine, I'm fine. It's all good." She hardly sounded like she believed it, more like she was trying to convince herself she was doing the right thing.

Swanfrost grimaced. "Brightwing, that's completely crazy." She insisted. Swanfrost may not be the most loyal cat, but she certainly didn't give up on things when she had her mind set on it.
At the mention of hurting him, she frowned. "The only thing that really hurt him was you 'breaking up' with him." Obviously she couldn't really know that, but it seemed like the best thing to say in that moment.

Brightwing flinched at being called crazy. By Swanfrost. She wasn't look at Swanfrost, but it was obvious the accusation had rattled her. Her ears folded back nervously, and her breath seemed shaky as if she was about to cry.
Except she wasn't. She didn't cry in front of other cats.
"H-Hah.... Too late to take it back now. It's f-fine... It's like you said. I'm just the crazy she-cat who makes all the horrible decisions and mangles every last vaguely positive relationship she happens to make!" She did not sound fine at all. She sounded like she was about to dive into hysterics.
((..... Bright is more fragile than I assumed as well :/

Swanfrost scowled, looking down at her paws. "I never said that." She hissed quietly, forcing herself to look at Brightwing. She was almost afraid she was going to cry. Not knowing what else to say Swanfrost stared at her in silence, her expression ranging from guilty to exasperated.

Brightwing shook her head gently. "But I bet you were thinking it." Then the she-cat stopped shaking, as she tried to shove everything she felt under a mask of unfeeling calm. She cleared her throat. "Maybe I should just..." Then she started to walk away from Swanfrost.
She berated herself for thinking that a friendship with anyone would work out....

Swanfrost bit her lip harshly as Brightwing began walking away, her breathing going quicker. She didn't know what to do. Is this what it felt like to cry? She hated it. She had never felt this way before. Swanfrost tried to swallow the lump in her throat, squeezing her eyes shut. "Brightwing, don't." She choked out, her voice sounding pitiful. Swanfrost didn't move, her head bowed. No tears came out, though it was evident that she could cry at any moment.

Brightwing stopped in her tracks. She chanced a look over her shoulder and her mask fell apart. A look of anguish overtook her expression, turning her body around so she was properly facing Swanfrost.
"... What do you want me to do, then?" She whispered. "I... I don't know what I'm doing. I'm just scared and I'm trying to help." She confessed. "But it... It just hurts and others are getting hurt and I don't know what to do.... I'm a terrible person, aren't I..."
