Loki Flicker wasn't used to being on his own. Well- not like this. He'd often gone out by himself to hunt for his mother, but he always did that with her in mind. It helped him feel less alone, whenever he remembered he was doing it for her, and that she was waiting for him.
But this time, she wasn't. This time, it was just him. He still wasn't sure whether that was his fault or not. Maybe better not to think about it for now.
Losing focus, he pounced and missed the vole he'd been stalking by not even a whisker-length. It skittered away, and thought normally Flicker would have tried to go after it again, something stopped him. The scent of another cat. "Hello?" he asked, hoping that it was a friendly face. He could use one.

Loki had been padding around a territory he had been over a few times. It was perhaps getting a bit old, and he thoght of going somewhere new, but maybe this place still had new things in store for him.
A vole skittered past him, and he turned to kill it quickly. That wasn't much like voles, something must've been chasing it. He continued through the ferns and spotted another cat. This cat seemed to be in another world. Hah, if only Loki was in another world.
He would've been, right now, if only he'd thought before he left his clan. But that was many, many moons ago. And these four clans close to him were nothing like the one he left. Besides, he was warned by his sister not to return to their home.
Loki padded from the ferns and dropped the vole at his black paws. He kept a straight face, sizing the other cat up. This wasn't how he usually approached new cats, but he had to make do with it now.
"I think you lost something," he said, scooting the vole over to the other cat's brown paws. It's not like Loki was going to eat it, anyway. He wasn't exactly sure why he killed it.

"Ah," Flicker said at first, rather dumbly, surprised that the older loner had actually offered him the vole. It was a kind gesture- one he wasn't familiar with, and while he should have been embarrassed about having lost the catch in the first place, he was overwhelmed with relief at the idea that perhaps the other cat was friendly. "So I did." He wasn't even entirely sure how to react to it, initially, but eventually he figured it out.
"Thanks." Flicker kept an eye on the stranger as he spent a moment burying the catch that wasn't his for later, just in case it could be a ploy. It wouldn't have been the first time.
But nothing happened. "So," he began again with a bit of a friendly smirk, when he finished burying the vole. "What's an old cat like you doing alone out here, if you're not hunting?" It didn't seem like the other was hunting, since he had given up the vole. "Travelling?"

Loki watched him bury the vole quickly. That was smart of him, but he might also want to consider the scent around the place where he buried it. If another cat decided to pad along this way, they could easily scent out the area and steal the vole. But Loki didn't think that the brown cat cared too much about someone stealing his prey.
Loki gave a small smirk. "Old, am I?" he asked. Surely he was older than this young cat, and much taller, and stronger, but he wouldn't call himself old. No, the cats he thought were old were elders sitting around in a clan, unable to even care for themselves. He thought of his father for a moment, then shook his head.
"I might be a few moons older than cats you've met so far, but I have a long life ahead of me. I wouldn't call myself old." The smirk still remained on his face. This young cat was amusing.
He then answered the younger tom's question. "You could say I live here, kinda. My sister lives around here, at least."

[[ohmygod i posted right as you edited and thought i had just forgot an entire part of your post for a second -headdesks-]]"Nah. You're definitely old," Flicker went on, keeping a light, teasing tone to his voice. It seemed this cat at least had a bit of a sense of humor- he didn't seem mad about Flicker's quipping so far, which he always found to be a good sign. "'Course that's not hard. To me, lots'a cats are old. You're not, like, grandpa old- but maybe uncle old? You ain't young, though." Hopefully it was still clear he was joking about all of this.
"You do?" he asked, when the loner said that he lived here. "Where, exactly? Is there- do you have a den or something? Just in the grass?" He found it hard to imagine actually living anywhere other than near old twoleg shacks for too long.
"Oh- I'm Flicker, by the way," he meowed, somewhat out of the blue, after realizing he still hadn't introduced himself. "A wanderer. Loner. Nomad. Et cetera. All that."

Loki gave him a slightly skeptical look. "Whatever you say, shorty," he teased back. Then the cat gave his name out of the blue. Well, this was probably what he did when he was younger, as well. It seemed as if now Loki liked to keep his name to himself. But it's not like this cat was going to do something to him because he told his name. He really wasn't sure why he hid his name. "I'm Loki. A loner, pretty much, now. I wasn't always, though. My father was the clan leader for a long time, and I was next in line to lead. But my arrogant brother had other ideas."
Yep, it always boiled down to his brother, somehow. If Grayfang was there to see how much Loki had been beating him up, they would definately get in a bad fight.
((lol its fine))

Flicker didn't see the harm in giving out his name- at least not yet. There wasn't anything attached to it yet, save for his own past, which only he knew about. Maybe he'd be more careful in the future, but for the time being, he couldn't find a reason not to give it out. He would have understood if the other loner hadn't given his, but was glad that Loki had. It was easier than giving him various titles over the course of the conversation. Weird name, though.
Flicker wasn't one to talk, though, was he?
"...uh. Clan?" he asked, unsure what Loki meant. He'd heard of them, yeah, but only really in passing. He decided to focus on that as opposed to Loki's mention of his father and family. The last thing Flicker wanted to think about was that. He shifted his left shoulder slightly at the last memory of his own father, then moved on. "Which clan?" he asked next, since he knew that there were more than one of them at least. "Also. What exactly are the clans? I've heard of them but uh- grew up around the twolegplace so. I don't really know much about them."

Loki flicked his tail. "My clan didn't really have a name, at least one that you would understand," he started, then shook his head. "Clans are like groups of cats that have similarities. They live together in a close-knit camp, and grow up to become fighters, usually. But mine was different."
And again, back to his clan. If only he hadn't left. Sometimes he's glad he did, and other times he wish he could go back. Well, he could, but someone would recognize him within a second of him arriving. Then someone would want to kill him.

Flicker nodded at Loki's explanation, thinking it over. Must have been nice- living with a bunch of cats who actually cared. Or at least a bunch of cats that didn't turn on you. Cats that weren't exactly family, but that kind of acted like one. Flicker decided not to get too lost in that fantasy too quickly. It would only end up hurting more.
"But yours wasn't like the ones that live around that...general area?" Flicker asked, gesturing vaguely towards the more forest-y areas nearby. "Or that one other one?" The one he'd been warned about. The one that wasn't really much of a clan at all, given Loki's description of one. The one that was filled with rogues.

Loki was a bit confused, but he somewhat followed Flicker. "There are four real clans, and a group of rogues that call themselves a clan. Treeclan is the one that lives in a forest. They are strong; they have to be to climb the trees. Fireclan is fast, so they can catch prey easily. I'm not sure about the other two, Iceclan and Rockclan, but I know Iceclan is full of overly confident cats. The last one is Deathclan, the rogues. Some of them are cruel and vicious, and others just like to make a show of it. I've met a few."
It was true thag Deathclan wasn't all as scary as most thought it was.

Flicker nodded, glad that Loki had explained more about the clans. Somehow he doubted he'd find too many other cats kind enough to do that if he had asked. He snorted a bit at his description of IceClan, though. Seemede like Loki had a bit of experience with them.
"If DeathClan isn't really a clan, why call themselves that?" Flicker wondered. "Why not...DeathPride? Or something cooler?" It wasn't a question he really expected Loki to have an answer to, but something that had come to mind anyway.

"Good question," Loki said, nearly to himself. He didn't know why they were a clan. They had s leader, but it wasn't exactly leading. Anyone could step put to challenge the throne, even he could.
He thought momentarily on that. He could rule the most feared clan, and he could actually make them feared again. He shook his head. He had his own clan, but its not like he was ever going to return to it.
