Midnightkit was nervous when she heard Ashpaw's mew, but still looked steadily at him. After Ashpaw's description, Midnightkit shuffled her paws. Cats in the same clan were disagreeing. She had heard whispers behind her back. She had listen to many arguments, but never knew what they meant. "How could anyone not like Arrowstar?" Muttered Midnightkit, her green eyes beginning to cloud over. "I'm going to help him. I owe him." Stated Midnightkit, then, she looked over to Ashpaw, "Are you?"

"Well...they have their reasons," Ashpaw meowed. "I just...I don't think they're good reasons. Or...not good enough to cause so much trouble." He didn't think it was fair to make so many assumptions about a cat just based on where they were from, or who their parents were. All of those were reasons they couldn't really control. It wasn't their fault- and it wasn't right that Yellowburr kept trying to turn everyone against each other.
"Of course I will," he said, but he wasn't so sure what he could even really do. He was an apprentice- and even when he was a warrior, one clanborn cat standing up for those who weren't would hardly make much of a difference. He'd only get sorted in with the outsiders that Yellowburr liked to hate. "You shouldn't have to worry about it too much now, though," he told Midnightkit. "Arrowstar can handle it. You may be a little too young to have to deal with it yet."

Listening to what Ashpaw had to say, Midnightkit felt safe. Looking at herself, she realized that Ashpaw was right, she was plenty to small. Pressing close to Ashpaw, Midnightkit whispered, "I guess your right." Then looked back up at the stars. "I wonder if Cloudclan is watching us right now. What do you think?"

At least he'd made sure that Midnightkit wouldn't focus too much on the rebels for now. Maybe that was all he could really hope for- soon enough she'd be an apprentice and able to fend for herself, but for the time being, she just got to be a kit. Everyone deserved to have that part of their life, the one where they didn't really have to worry about anything.
"Hmmm..." he hummed thoughtfully, his smile back in it's rightful place. "Well they certainly haven't seemed to have moved, so I would assume they're still there," he decided. "Huh. I never asked- do you know anyone that's up there? Or is there anyone you'd want to meet?"

Midnightkit thought abut this, she had only been in camp for almost a moon now, but she never witnessed a death yet. "I wonder if my parents are up there." She said quietly, after a long pause. "I hope they're not, so I would be able to find them some day."

Ashpaw felt a pang in his chest when he heard Midnightkit speak of her parents. "I hope you can find them someday, too," he meowed. "And remember that even if they are up there, they're looking down at you and watching over you. And eventually, you'll still find them. We all get to CloudClan eventually- I just hope it takes you a while to get there."

Midnightkit felt a little better after Ashpaw's mew. She looked back up at the stars, wishing that she knew the position of her parents. Ashpaw was very kind to her and this made Midnightkit feel very safe. "I hope it takes awhile for you to get to CloudClan too." She said, pressing a little closer into Ashpaw's fur.
Looking back again in the stars, Midnightkit wanted to say something, but was afraid too. Finally, she couldn't hold it in, "Ashpaw? Can I ask you something?"

"Course you can," Ashpaw answered, secretly a little worried by what Midnightkit had to say. She looked nervous. "Everything okay?"

"Yes, everything is." Midnightkit said, shuffling her paws, "I was just wondering..." She cut off. Did she really want to say this? Midnightkit took a deep breath, hopefully Ashpaw won't be offended. "I was just wondering if you had any family members that you wonder where they are."

Ashpaw's mind stumbled when he heard her question. He shuffled his paws for a moment, somewhat uncertainly. "Well...I guess I'm wondering where my dad is," he admitted sheepishly. "Or...who he is. Happens to a lot of kits around here, though. TreeClan needs kits, but still needs their warriors. We manage, and so will I." Ashpaw paused for a moment, glancing back up. "And...I think I'd know if he was, y'know. Up there. I like to think I'd be able to feel it."

Midnightkit felt bad for Ashpaw. They had both lost family, but he never got to see his dad. She rarely remembered anything about her family anyways. "I'm sorry." Midnightkit whispered, running her small tail along Ashpaw's back. She didn't really think she got most of his back, but she thought that would make him feel better.
Midnightkit remembered something she always enjoyed to do. She laid down and rolled over onto her back. She could see so many stars. She flicked her tail, beckoning Ashpaw to lay down beside her.
