[[ Midnightfur - eh...lately i've been doing a lot of threads at night bc my boy loves to watch the stars, hope that's okay! ]]It was quiet. Strangely so, in fact. Lately everything had been so noisy, so when it finally wasn't, Ashpaw found it harder to sleep. It was dark when he slipped out of the apprentice's den and made his way to the center of camp. Not too many others were awake at the hour, which Ashpaw was almost glad for.
The stars were out. He couldn't see too many from here, not with all the trees in the way, but he could see enough to be reminded that they were still there. For now, that would be enough. He almost headed back to the apprentice's den when he heard the sound of another approaching- a kit, actually. "Hello," he smiled. "What're you doing out here so late?"

(That is okay!)
Midnightkit couldn't sleep. She shifted in her nest but still couldn't get comfortable. Getting up carefully, she made her way toward the entrance of the Nursery. Making sure she did not to wake up Sorrelpatch or any of the other kits, she slowly crept outside.
It felt nice to feel a small breeze against her short fur. She looked up towards the stars. Even though a few stars were out, she still felt comforted by their presence. Hearing about Cloudclan made her feel safe. She started to head more toward the entrance of the camp to look outside, when she heard someone from the darkness mew beside her.

Maybe she hadn't heard him? She was kit after all- they weren't exactly known for paying attention. Ashpaw considered leaving her alone, but he found his curiousity was too great to ignore. He cleared his throat and asked again. "Hello?" he said again. It was then that he realized she was looking at the stars, too. "Ah, a fellow astronomer!" he chirped, smiling brightly. "You like the stars, too?"

Midnightkit looked away from the stars to see a young gray cat. An apprentice? Midnightkit asked herself. H-Hi." Midnightkit stammered. The only other cats she really meet was Sorrelpatch, Arrowstar, Redkit, and Dogfang. "Yes!" She answered the young toms question, "They seem to calm me."

"Yeah..." Ashpaw agreed, glancing up at the sky again for a moment. "They are pretty nice, aren't they?" He was quiet for a moment. "I'm Ashpaw. I'm afraid I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you before. What's your name?"

"I'm Midnightkit." She answered, quietly purring at Ashpaw's kind words. Ashpaw is quite nice. Thought Midnightkit, hoping that it was time to be able to get a new friend. Her tail flicked a little. Midnightkit hoped that Ashpaw didn't see it. "How much do you like Treeclan?" She asked awkwardly, flexing her claws into the hard ground.

A fitting name, Ashpaw decided- given that it was lightly close to midnight in that moment. Naturally a kit with a name like that would admire the stars.
He didn't answer her question for a moment, surprised to hear what seemed like a rather loaded question coming from somebody so young. "Well...uh," he started, uncertainly. "I've always lived here, so...it's my home. I like it a lot. I guess lately...it's been a little harder...but I can't exactly imagine living anywhere else." He paused. "What about you?"

"I enjoy it." Stated Midnightkit, "I like the trees and the wind in my fur." She decided to make a small joke. "I can't even imagine to live in a place like Iceclan though!" Giggled Midnightkit. Thinking back on Ashpaw's words, she said, "But what do you mean 'It's been a little harder?'"

Ashpaw shivered when Midnightkit mentioned IceClan. "Brr. Just thinking of the mountains makes me feel cold," Ashpaw joked. "I don't have enough fur to even consider living there." He thought about it for a moment. "Maybe FireClan could be fun, though. Chasin' down rabbits and stuff. I'd miss the trees, though. Guess I have no choice but to stay here!"
He had hoped that Midnightkit wouldn't notice his slip of the tongue. His smile became a little more nervous. "A lot of things have been happening around here lately," he said, rather vaguely. "Nothing you need to worry about, though!" Or...at least, he hoped it was nothing she had to worry about. Things were getting dangerous- but he didn't want to scare her by telling her about the fights that were starting to break out. "Do you have a favorite game to play? Or a favorite star?"

Midnightkit chuckled at Ashpaw's small joke. "Yeah, maybe Fireclan would be fun to run around in, but I live here and I owe it, but that doesn't matter because I would also miss the trees." Midnighkit agreed, licking her white paw and drawing it over her muzzle.
Midnighkit wondered what the things were and why Ashpaw wasn't telling her when he asked her a question. "I kind of like that one." She answered, pointing her paw in the direction of a red-ish looking star. "I like it, because it is mostly different from all the other ones." Then, pointing her paw toward a different one. "But, then I also like that one because it is the brightest one I could see." Then with her own question, she said, "Which one is your favorite?"

He was relieved that Midnightkit didn't try to push the subject further. He felt somewhat guilty about having used the stars to distract her, but he'd rather that than risk frightening her with talk of rebels and clanmates hurting each other. Besides...he didn't know how much at risk she was- surely they wouldn't attack kits, right? He looked in the direction she was pointing, having to search for a moment before finding the star she was pointing to.
"Hmm...I like..." he pointed to a smaller star that was in between two brighter ones. "...that one. I like that even though it isn't shining as brightly as the others, it isn't giving up. I wonder who it is- you know, if they really are CloudClan spirits like everyone says they are."

Midnightkit looked toward where Ashpaw was pointing to. "That one does look cool. I like how the other ones are bigger than that one, and how it still looks brave ." Her eyes shone as Ashpaw mentioned Cloudclan. She always liked it when someone talked about it. "Do you know anyone from Cloudclan?" She knew it was a silly question, but she wanted to know everything about Cloudclan as she could. "Do you think anyone from Cloudclan is watching me?"

Ashpaw hummed thoughtfully for a moment, trying to remember. He didn't think anyone he really knew had passed away...he only knew of deaths within the clan from others. "Well...I knew Spiderstar," he said, still looking up. "Or- I knew of him. The old TreeClan leader." He still felt almost old whenever he mentioned him, though. Ashpaw supposed he hadn't been a leader for all too long but...still.
"Personally, I like to think that everyone from CloudClan who's up there is watching us," he said. "Thinking of home. Of family. Even if we weren't related by blood, I like to think that everyone in the clan is connected by something stronger than that." Maybe his father was up there- he'd never met him before.

Midnightkit's eyes widened in wonder as Ashpaw about Spiderstar. Then, about Cloudclan. "I like that thought." Midnightkit said quietly, looking up at the stars again. Then, the same thought popped up in her mind again. She looked at Ashpaw and opened her mouth, but then she thought if it was the right thing to do. She really wanted to know so she continued, "I know that you probably don't want to talk about this, but what was the thing that you don't want to tell me? The 'It's been a little harder' problem?" Midnightkit looked at her paws in embarrassment, hoping that Ashpaw wouldn't get angry.

Ashpaw shuffled his paws uncomfortably when Midnightkit brought it up again. Of course she would have- she was definitely smart for her age. It'd been too easy to distract her for it to have lasted too long. "Not going to let that go, are you?" he sighed, with a weak smile. "Alright. Just- don't get too scared, okay?" He was quiet for a moment, trying to figure out the best way to word the problem.
"You might have noticed how...tense...things have been around here lately," he started. "Lately, cats have started to disagree on what the best way to run the clan is. Some of them don't like Arrowstar or Crystalbird all that much. So...it's been hard." He decided to keep leaving out the part about the fights, at least while he could get away with it.
