kitepaw sighed as he sat in the camp. he could have sworn this was the hottest day of his life and his long pelt wasn't helping that at all! it was boiling... he felt like he was going to melt!
letting out a small whine at the discomfort the hot sun was causing, the young tom suddenly came up with a great idea- what if he just cut his fur? the tabby smiled at the thought and looked around with olive green eyes, making his way towards the nearest cat he could find, "could you... make my fur shorter?" he requested, eyes hopeful.

Redfoot was hanging out in camp, grooming her black fur. It was a hot day, and her grooming was a vain move to aid the process of shedding. It wasn't doing much good. She let out a sigh, looking up to see a furry tabby apprentice staggering into camp. He looked as if he was going to have a heatstroke, if even possible for cats to have.
New-leaf was always so hot, especially on the prairie. She definitely understood that with her black fur, but never had the discomfort of being a long-haired cat. She definitely felt sorry for this young tom.
"No.. maybe you could go for a swim? Or maybe talk to the medicine cat?" she said with a hopeful tone. She wasn't really sure what would be able to help him.

kitepaw let out a long, high pitched whine at the warrior's response, flopping onto the floor and rolling onto his back. if it was this hot in new leaf then he dreaded to see what green leaf would be like. "why not?" he asked, turning his nose around to try move some fur around.
"won't that be bothersome?" kitepaw asked, twitching his white whiskers. "and rosetail told me not to leave camp alone so i can't go out," the apprentice complained, rolling more.

Redfoot tilted her head. She had trained Rosetail herself, and that rule had applied to her as well. Although when Rosetail was an apprentice, she was allowed to leave with other warriors. The senior warrior knew Rosetail was a pretty kind, understanding cat.
"Well, maybe ask Rosetail to take you?" she suggested, tilting her head the opposite way. She didn't think the medicine cats would mind Kitepaw, but she wasn't so sure what they would be able to do for him, either.

kitepaw moved onto his front again and pressed his face into the ground, "mmph," he huffed, fluffing up his fur more to try separate the strands, "dunno where she is..." he said.
"why's it so hot? it wasn't like this before," he asked, twitching his pink nose.

Redfoot couldn't help but laugh softly. Kitepaw had only just become an apprentice, he probably hadn't experienced new-leaf before. If he was hot now, he sure had a storm coming. Green-leaf was much hotter, he'd think his pelt was melting off when that time came. It had been many, many moons since the senior warrior's first new-leaf.
"It's new-leaf," she said with a grin. "It may seem hot to you, but with the new season comes a lot of good things. The prey will be coming out, the Clan will be well fed again."

kitepaw whined again, it was going to get even hotter? he already felt like he was melting- he'd die if it got any hotter than this, "i don't want it to get hotter," the tabby moaned as if it was actually going to stop green-leaf from happening. "at least there's that... but it's gonna be too hot to hunt. why can't it just be leaf-bare forever?"

Redfoot made a somewhat disgusted face. Although Kitepaw was young, he shouldn't have been too ignorant to realize that the Clan needs to eat in order to survive. She rolled her silver eyes, suddenly very annoyed.
"Oh quit your whining," she snapped. "The Clan needs to eat, and if it was leaf-bare all the time, we'd starve."

kitepaw's olive green eyes widened comically and he jumped when redfoot snapped at him- he wasn't expecting that! "sorry," he apologised, flicking a tufted ear with a frown.

"Good," Redfoot said curtly, adding a brief nod. She reached down to smooth the fur on her chest, then looked back to the younger, smaller tom. She had originally felt sorry for him, but that feeling drifted away the longer he whined. The senior warrior shook her head, and looked up, in thought.
"Instead of whining... Why not come up with a solution?" Redfoot asked, widening her silver eyes. Critical thinking was part of being a warrior, and it was never too early to learn that skill. "What do you think would help you feel better?"

kitepaw shrugged again, i don't know," he began to think, "i could just sneak out when rosetail's not looking, i guess... as long as you don't tell her," his eyes widened hopefully, trying to cone redfoot into keeping it a secret if he snuck out. that way, he could maybe go out to the water or under the shady trees of the treeclan border.

She laughed out loud at this suggestion. She had applied this rule to Rosetail when she was an apprentice, and for good reason. What if Kitepaw went out and got hurt? Or lost? Not only would she be a hypocrite, but she'd have to drag her butt out and look for him. She felt sorry for him, but not that sorry.
"Nice try," she said, mustering a straight face. "I think you'll survive. There are lots of long-haired cats that do just fine."
