t had been a brilliant day, with an even more extraordinary evening, and Brokenkit padded back to her nest as the sun was setting, her tail held high and a smile on her face.

When she spotted her mother, she rushed forward and leaped into the nest. The leap wasn't too graceful, but it would get better over time. She smiled a grand, real smile up at her mom.

Sandstep lifted her chin as her little daughter came over to her in their nest. She admired how much her daughter seemed to grow with each and every day. "Hello little one. I see you've been working on your leaping skills am I right?" She teased her daughter lightly, not wanting to offend her but merely make light of the subject. Sandstep found it so adorable the way Brokenkit hopped up.

rokenkit beamed, happy her mother had noticed her jumping. "Im hoping I can become really good at it," she admitted. As much as she loved to run, she wanted to be different in some way. All Fireclan cats could run, but not all could jump.

Sandstep smiled at her daughter's response to her praise. "I'm sure one day you'll be the best at it. Only if you can keep up the good practice!" She added, making sure her daughter would learn the idea 'practice makes perfect'.

ixenkit smiled all the more. "I can practice!" she said, bouncing in and out of the nest over and over, before she plopped down with a huff, worn out.

Sandstep shook her head. "Don't overdo it. You're only a kit. One day you'll be much stronger and much more experienced learning side by side with a mentor. Wouldn't that be neat?" She could hardly remember those days. It was a very long time ago when she was getting ready for her own apprentice ceremony.

ixen sat up quickly with a smile on her face. "I can't wait! What if you're my mentor?" she asked with an amusing smile, which involved scrunching her eyes closed.

Sandstep gave an amused look. She didn't know what it'd be like to mentor her own children. "I'm not so sure that'll happen. I don't know if Oceanstar would put a mother with a child. It could be possible though, especially if there aren't enough mentors."

ixenkit thought momentarily of this, before responding, "How many mentors are there? I'm not sure who I'm going to get." She looked a bit worried, as if she was scared that she would get someone cruel.

Sandstep shook her head. "I don't know. But here's what I do know: your mother will always be there to protect you so you don't have to worry if you get a bad mentor. If you do, come find me and I'll let them know not to mess with my kittens. Got it?" She sensed her daughter's worry and felt bad. She didn't know how often she could be there but would try her best. Regardless, Sandstep would protect her babies.
