Midnightfur Ashfall had already been up for far too long by the time it was dawn. He'd been too excited, and spent the better part of an hour planning the day before the sun had even started to rise. On top of being excited, however, he was nervous and jittery. His mind was racing a thousand thoughts per second. He felt somewhat unfit for the task- maybe it would have been easier if he'd had more reliable mentors himself, but he would make do with what he knew.
"Midnightpaw?" he called after reaching the apprentice's den, hopefully not disturbing the other apprentices. "Time to wake up! Grab something to eat- I'll be teaching you how to hunt today." Once he was sure that she had heard, he ducked out of the den and waited near the fresh-kill pile.

Midnightpaw had woke up a little bit before dawn. She had a little bit of a hard time falling asleep, but she managed. Grooming her pelt, Midnightpaw soon heard Ashfall call for her. Leaping to her paws, Midnightpaw rushed out the entrance. Trying to not hop excitedly, Midnightpaw asked, "Where are we going to hunting?"

[ im sorry this is so late, my internet was having all sorts of trouble this week ]"I was thinking we'd head to the fern gully," Ashfall mused, grinning down at his apprentice. "Or perhaps you have somewhere you'd like to go? We'll have to fit a bit of a territory tour in at some point, too."
"Don't forget to eat, though, little warrior," he chuckled, upon realizing that Midnightpaw had sprinted over to him before even grabbing a bite to eat. "I'm just as excited as you are, but I don't want to tucker you out before we even get to the fun part."

(Don't worry, I don't mind!)
Midnightpaw was excited when Ashfall began to tell her about what they were going to do for the day, but she was caught off guard when he asked her where she wanted to go. "The fern gully is fine. I don't really know that many other places." Midnightpaw shuffled her paws in embarrassment when Ashfall told her to get something to eat. She was so excited that she forgot! "Sorry." She murmured quietly and quickly padded toward the fresh-kill pile. Grabbing a small mouse, Midnightpaw quickly finished it and whisked her tongue over her jaws. Giving her pelt a quick shake, Midnightpaw scampered back to her mentor.

"Ready to go?" Ashfall asked, only giving Midnightpaw a moment to respond before setting off, and exiting the camp. He turned and made way to the FirecClan border, deciding it might be a good idea to start with a brief border tour before heading to the Fern Gully towards the center of TreeClan. Every once in a while he looked behind him to make sure that his apprentice wasn't falling too far behind. What kind of mentor would he have been if he lost his apprentice on the first day? Yikes.
Soon enough, the grass underpaw grew more prickly, and the trees grew more sparse, until they reached the border. The wind swept over the plains in front of him and over his fur, and he took in a deep breath, relishing the unfamiliar breeze for a moment.
"This is the FireClan border," he explained. "What do you know about FireClan?

As they walked out of the camp, Midnightpaw made sure to memorize most of the territory. Sniffing leaves and tree trunks, Midnightpaw noticed that Ashfall kept on checking on her once in a while, so she made sure not to lag behind too much. Feeling the grass begin to get coarser, Midnightpaw looked up as Ashfall told her that they were at the FireClan border. When he asked her if she knew anything about it, she mewed, "They are the fastest out of the four Clans. Aren't they?"
