@asterrr
Darkkit was half hidden under the edge of the nursery wall, his night black pelt letting him blend in perfectly with the shadows. He was watching the kits in the den, as they slept, ate, talked, played, etc. It was making him drowsy, but he was too annoyed to sleep. It was super loud. He flattened his ears, and narrowed his pale lilac eyes, grumbling to himself as he thought about leaving the den, his eyes again wandering over the other cats near him.

Asterkit sat neatly in her own little section of the nursery. On any other day, Asterkit would've seen this as a perfect opportunity to mess with someone. Sneak up behind them, maybe gross them out with her morbid musings. Today, however, Asterkit had focused her big, round eyes on something--no, someone else. There laid a black kit, perfectly camouflaged. After a solid minute of just staring at him, wondering if he just hadn't seen her or was too tired to respond, Asterkit padded over to him.
Her grey face leaned in, obnoxiously close. She whispered, "Hey, what are you up to? You look annoyed."

Darkkit stared at the kit who was talking to him. His ear twitched and he blinked a few times, silent. "Hi." He meowed, his fur spiking up a little. "Uh, yeah. I guess I am annoyed." He blinked at her again, taking in her stance, wondering if she was a threat of not. Wondering if he should bother talking to her anymore. He sighed and sat up, wrapping his tail around his paws. "Im Darkkit."

Asterkit held down the urge to giggle at his hesitant answer, instead backing up so he had some personal space. So he was just irritated after all. How much, though? Was she annoying him, or was that just his natural state? She was about to ask when he suddenly sat up and decided gave his name. "Darkkit," she repeated. "Cool."
She paused for few seconds before suddenly blurting out; "You could spy on or attack anyone in this nursery at night, and they wouldn't even know who hit them!" A very handy skill, indeed. Hopefully Darkkit wouldn't take her suggestion too seriously though. "My name's Asterkit. You don't happen to know what an aster is, do you?"

Darkkit tried so hard to suppress his grin, but it was to no avail. A smile spread across his features. "I know I could." He grinned, replying to what the kit had said about attacking others. "Asterkit... Nice. I... think... I know what an Aster is." He murmured, tipping his head to the side in uncertainty.

Asterkit's eyes widened in surprise at the grin, the casual reply to her somewhat strange statement. Sure, it's a pretty cool skill, but shouldn't he be acting weirded out? Vaguely disturbed? She decided to start testing her luck a bit more. "Really? Have you ever done it before? Maybe you kill a few of those pesky bugs, or drag an innocent kit out into nowhere..." Her voice trailed off.
Yeah, she was really pushing it there. She decided to focus on his next statement, ears perked. "You do? What is it? Is it, well, suiting? Like yours?"

Darkkit grinned again at her. "Nah, I'd probably get kicked out of the clan if I did." He laughed. Then his mood sobered up a little. "Your name does suit you, I hope mine suits me."

Asterkit's smiled back at him, letting out a small laugh. "Kicking a kit out of the clan is pretty messed up, even by my standards!" The grey kit tried to imagine what it would be like out there, in the cold. So many things that could kill you. She shuddered. "Try not to get kicked out," she murmured, "Stick to being a spooky spy instead."
She felt weirdly relieved at his statement, even if the mood took a weird turn. "Well, at least our momma's aren't completely clueless. At least, Rivershade isn't anyway."

Darkkit smiled wryly. "Yeah, I suppose." He crouched and ducked further into the shadows, doing his best impression of a spy. He slinked towards Asterkit and bared his teeth. "See, I would definetly get kicked out." He meowed, laughing, because he though he had been stupid to let down his guard and have fun.
"Our mothers are cool, they know their way around names." He agreed, flicking his tail in agreement. He wouldn't go into any more depth, but Asterkits name really did suit her. He was glad she knew it.

Asterkit crouched down, watching Darkkit curiously as he slunk into the shadows and actually practiced being a 'spooky spy'. The contrast of his eyes and teeth against the shadows filled the 'spooky' part; yeah, she would not want to greet that at who-knows-what time.
"Yeah, you could scare someone to death," She snorted, giving a few chuckles and waving her tail around. "You'd be double-kicked out." Once she reigned herself in, she nodded along with Darkkit.
"Sure do. Kinda wonder what my momma thinks of me, though. Do you know her well?"

Darkkit shrugged. "No, not really. I mean, I do love her, but I don't know her. I normally do my own thing." He had withdrawn back into his quiet self and realised he was yearning to go and get soaked. Getting to his paws and shaking himself vigorously, Darkkit smiled at Asterkit. "I'm so sorry to leave like this, but would you mind if we rested now? I'm a little tired, you see, I've been up ever since the storm started, and I think I'm going crazy. The water is speaking to me." He said dubiously, eyeing the nursery walls where the rain pattered. He flashed another quick grin, hoping she didn't know what he was planning to do if she rested too. This spy thing could be fun if he had a friend. But off course, he didn't mind. If she didn't want to rest, Darkkit would stay with her, if she wanted.

Asterkit nodded. Although it was a shame that neither of them really knew their momma, it wasn't that surprising. Like Darkkit said, he does his 'own thing', and Asterkit herself... well. Rivershade probably had enough kits to deal with without throwing her into the mix. Oh well. Blinking out of her thoughts, she realized Darkkit had asked a question. He said he was tired, yet looked like he was preparing for something. Asterkit eyed him up suspiciously, but relaxed once he finished speaking. She smiled. "Yeah, we can rest. Maybe you can tell me what the water's been saying afterwards though. I heard it talks about some pretty strange things." She had little to no idea what the water would talk about; maybe clouds? All the things it saw?

Darkkit turned his head away quickly as a grin flashed across his face. He cast his gaze back to Aspenkit to see if she had seen. When she asked about the rain, he laughed. "Of course I'll tell you what it says. You just gotta ask." He huffed, ears pricking again as he pretended to listen to the rain, his features forming the look of someone listening really hard.

Asterkit stared straight at him. What was he being so mysterious about? It wasn't like she gonna blab his super-secret secret to the entire Nursery. "Are you alright?" She said, mostly monotone. She wanted to toss in a 'you're acting strange', but it just felt hypocritical.
Her demeanor lightened up when he spoke again. "Okay!" She giggled as he actually made some effort (or pretend-effort, anyway) to listen. "Uh... so, what's it saying now? Is it talking about us?"

Darkkit turned his gaze to Asterkit, eyes serious. "It says that it likes me because I like it, and it would like to soak us because that is what rain does." He paused, listening again. "It also says that it thinks you are a very nice cat because you put up with me." He said solemnly. The he frowned in mock-horror. "I'm not that bad, am I?" He asked, knowing that he actually was. Without letting Asterkit answer, he got to his paws and padded past her to his nest, keeping a small bit of space between them respectfully. He wished the space would go away, though.
