Asterkit listened fervently to Darkkit, ears perked but slowly dropping to the back of her head as he carried on. "Oh," she said. She didn't know what else to say, so she just did what she always did; stared with wide and slightly worried eyes. Before she could say anything, Darkkit asked her a somewhat weighted question and walked off. For a second, Asterkit just sat there dumbfounded.
The rain was very harsh."Hey," She mumbled, before shuffling over to Darkkit's nest, completely disregarding any personal space they were trying to maintain. "If you're bad, then I'm worse. I make jokes about attacking cats and dead things. If someone in this Nursery suddenly rolled over, I'd probably just laugh it off like a fox-hearted idiot."

Darkkit was half shocked by Asterkit's response to his words. Normally other kits would shun him after this, or laugh at him. Unexpectedly, his eyes started to well with unwanted tears. AH! NO! He shook his head vigorously, trying to rid them before Asterkit got a look inside past his bravo. He took a breath and was calmer. "Nah, you're great. No one would think your a reject like me, I mean what was I doing when we met, I was sitting in the shadows, listening to the rain." He squeezed his eyes shut. "I try to be a strong warrior, but truth is I'm a nobody. I'm not even a kit, kits are so super cute and innocent, while I'm like an elder." He sighed, and touched his nose to Asterkits hesitantly. "Thanks for staying to talk to me" He meowed, and he shuffled his paws, uneasy of how she would react to his mood flip.

Asterkit was trying hard to keep her own neutral, calm mask in place. All she had done was go over and talk to Darkkit, thinking she'd just act weird, he'd blow her off, and that'd be the end of it. She couldn't help the worried frown on her face when he turned away suddenly, eyes wet with... "What's wrong with you?" She meowed softly.
Then she got her answer. She couldn't believe her ears. Sure, Darkkit wasn't as active or energetic as other kits, but to say she was 'great' in comparison? That just. Didn't make sense. "Stop that! I'm a reject weirdo too, you know! I was staring at other kits, waiting to creep them out with my bugs or jokes. Who does that? Also, You don't have to be a 'super cute' or 'innocent' kit, why can't you just be Darkkit, stupid?!" She huffed. Wow. Way to freak out, Asterkit. The she-cat inhaled sharply.
She smiled thinly when they touched noses "Thanks for putting up with my weirdness, too."

Darkkit ducked his head at what Asterkit had said to him, shoulders slack and ears droopy. He had blown it, great. And now she was mad at him, and probably wanted to run off to tell some other cat how stupid he was. He let out a long, slow breath. "I'm sorry." He muttered, deciding that, if she was going to say she wanted to go away from him, he would accept that. But he would tell that his mood would get horrible and he would probably make a lot of other cats hate him too.
(okay, I had a brainwave. I think we should have a plot for these two if you'd like. I'll PM you, okay)

What was happening? It seemed like only a few minutes ago they were joking about violence and spying, and now Darkkit was getting all sad and withdrawn. The more she thought about it, the more she realized how unprepared she was. "What are you apologizing for? I was just saying that we're both a bit strange, and that's fine! I didn't mean to yell so much. It's just..."
She shook her head. "Why are you acting so weird about this?!" Asterkit's ear twitched in annoyance. She knew she needed to calm down; they literally only met today, and already she was growling at him like she was his mother or something. But she didn't like Darkkit saying that about himself. For some reason, it confused her, and confusion led to annoyance and other things.

Darkkit sat very still his eyes unfocused. Suddenly, he growled. "WELL OKAY! WE ARE STRANGE, I GET THAT." He hissed, eyes narrowed at her annoyance. It was time for him to let her go, even though it hurt him deep to do it. "I am weird, it's the only way I know how to react!" He growled, turning away from Asterkit, tears leaking now and dripping off his whiskers. He hissed and got to his paws, tail lashing. Without another word, he sprinted out into the camp, sobbing, as he felt a part of his soul leave with Asterkit. Hiding felt perfect for his mood, and he huddled in a private, dark spot where no one should find him until he wanted to be found. He replayed all of his and Asterkits best times in his head and locked them in a chest, wondering if it would ever reopen.

Asterkit flinched back at Darkkit's outburst, ears folded back and eyes wide in surprise. She shouldn't have said that. He didn't really like being "weird" or "strange", did he? She should've guessed. She thought they could've been good friends. How foolish. Darkkit's last statement about 'how to react' jolted her brain into action. Was he crying? Oh Cloudclan.
"Darkkit, wait---" She started, but it was too late. Soon, the only sound was the rain pattering outside, and maybe the other kits or queens whispering. "I didn't mean it like that," she said to the air. She stood there for a long while, waiting until her emotions returned in a deep, dark cave in her head (where they belonged), and shambled to her nest. If anyone noticed her crying, they didn't say anything.
