Petals embellished the Siamese's every pawstep forward, masking her rosy scent with one of wildflowers. The day was young and clear and scorching, unforgiving on the emerald green grass that loomed before her. Soon, she imagined, it would all be baked away into crisp, honey-golden hay.
Her own throat was singed and begged for the relief of water, and her limbs ached in protest, but she walked with her same, determined, grace, shoulders rolled back and tail tip flicking every three steps. She was looking for nothing in particular, perhaps another cat or to experience a story she might one day tell on.
She was told of a river running somewhere through this cracked wasteland, perhaps dancing through the withered, wilted ferns that honestly, made the landscape rather bare and depressing. Rose wondered if she taunted them with her ripples, the sparkle of her water underneath the sun.
Speak of the Devil. Her ears caught onto the trickle of water, and she looked up optimistically to have her deep blue eyes catch onto a bubbling stream, gushing through a path that must've been carved from years and years of dances. She forced herself to keep calm, to remain as emotionless as she usually seemed, and quickened her pace to a light pad, reaching the river and gingerly dipping down to take a few laps of the cool water.

the silver feline moved forward lightly on her paws, her pelt rippling in the blazing sun. she was grateful for her short fur, which proved an advantage in the hot summer days.
faeryn hadn't a drink of water since... she couldn't remember, really. the idea of the cold hitting her warming tongue was all she could think about, so when she spotted a babbling river - the she-cat was more than relieved.
more so however, when she spied another cat lapping at the cool water. a friend, maybe; perhaps. she seemed to get lonelier as the days got longer, it wouldn't be so bad to befriend someone.
attempting to not startle the cat, she padded to the side of her, drinking some cold water before greeting herself. "Hello, I'm Faeryn. How do you do?"
(god this is cringey - but your writing is so much beauty I'm jealous ): )

Rose flicked up an eye at the figure who had joined her, analysing her in a quick second. She lifted her head to meet the stranger's eyes, giving a slight dip of her head as greeting.
"Rose. Pleasure to meet you."
Out of all the cats she'd met so far, at least this one seemed to have a good grasp on manners. She could work with that.
"Wonderful weather we're having," she meowed, voice as dry as the sun-scorched earth around them. Allowing a glint of amusement to enter into her deep blue eyes, she smiled slightly and sat down, wrapping her tail primly around her paws.
"Wherever might you be from? I don't recognize your accent," she meowed.
NOTES ; aw omg don't be i just try to be deep and this is the result lol idk how to say this but you have a really nice writing aesthetic! like i really like your word choices, if that makes any sense at all?

"Really? I think it is very hot-" she trailed off when she noticed the amused look aimed towards her, her lips curling into a small smirk of understanding. "Lovely weather, it is."
Faeryn mimicked the other's movements, sitting and gingerly wrapping her tail around her paws, stardust eyes twinkling in delight. She sighed inwardly when the question came up again, the accent always giving the suspicion that she didn't belong.
"I'm from here, really. Never been anywhere else." The lying had become so simple now. It wasn't so much as to protect herself, but to protect her homeland. The warrior couldn't come close to imagine the horror that would be born if her island was attacked, much less destroyed.
She guessed she was overreacting, but still, she couldn't let it come to that.
Just then, a tweeting bird flew past, wings flapping gently as her song was carried to them by the humid wind. "Wow the song is so pretty! I've never heard one so lovely before." Faeryn's reaction could prove she was a newcomer, though she didn't think at all about that. The new world she has come to known is so exciting, she couldn't deprive herself the joy of enjoying it.
( the last sentence lol / and thank you ! )

"I'm from here, really. Never been anywhere else."
At those words, Rose ever, every so slightly narrowed her almond eyes, but didn't push the matter. The question, however, hung around a bit, fluttering like a little firefly around her. It then struck her; what would she answer? Would she say she was around here? The question remained unanswered.
A bright smile graced Rose's face as the little bird glid past them.
"Songbirds are my absolute favourite," she meowed, deep blue eyes still focused on the tiny creatures, little wings bringing him away. She blinked appreciatively and turned back to Faeryn.
"I don't see the point of denying ourselves beauty, whether in the form of blossoms or songbirds," she meowed. "Unfortunately, many don't seem to agree."

"They lead a sad life, then." She murmured, her head shaking in disappointment.
Unwilling to bake in the sun, Faeryn brought up a new topic. "Is there something you like to do, Rose?" She questioned. The girl herself loved to swim, liked the feeling of the cool water seeping into her skin and comforting her aching bones. She enjoyed nerve-racking quests, often playing a game with death when venturing to the mountains and dodging their sharp talons.
That would be something she'd miss, often finding herself in the face of danger. She doubted, however, that she'd stay away from danger for long. Her uncle said she always had a knack for getting into trouble.

A brighter smile, a true, genuine one, made its way to Rose's face at the other she-cat's words. Perhaps there was a place in her heart for friends. She'd begun to think that there wasn't any room.
"I have many pastimes where I come from," she meowed in response to the query. "But unfortunately, I haven't discovered any out here yet. You see, I'm not from here." She was about to add the word 'either', but thought better of it.
"I often dream of swimming in the river, but I don't think I'd have a chance," she gave a light chuckle, imagining herself fighting amongst the waves, and resisted a small shudder at the thought of being tugged under.
"Eager to get out of the sun?" she meowed.

Busy watching the patterns of the waves, Faeryn snapped back to the smiling cat when questioned. "You could say so, at the very least." She shrugged before moving down to a low crouch, then up to a full stand.
"I have an idea." Her voice was eager, eyes alight. She beckoned with a tail to Rose, then turning to go further down the stream; to a shallow part where mice could drink the water easily and cats could stand without their belly getting soaked.
Faeryn stopped there, looked at Rose with another smile, then jumped quickly into the stream. Already, her whole body was soaked; but that was because she had dived in. The female was an excellent swimmer, not afraid to get her head under the water.
"I can teach you how to swim, yes?"

Following Faeryn's beckon, she padded to the very, very edge of the stream, gingerly extending a dark paw to touch the surface. The mirrorlike water rippled under her touch, sending a chill through her.
She turned to Faeryn, ready to hear her suggestion, when the feline suddenly jumped into the stream, startling her. Turning her head to avoid the splash, she gave a laugh.
"I hope you don't expect me to join you in there!" she called to her, raising her voice above the crashing of the river. Faeryn's next words disproved her, and she surrendered herself with a small smile, just as eager to get out of the blistering sun.
She extended the same paw even more, until she could feel the rocky bottom of the stream. Luckily, it wasn't too deep, and only came three-quarters the way up her long legs. Her belly fur would be safe - for now.
Reaching out a second paw, she shuddered as it dipped into the freezing water. She took a deep breath and finally took the plunge, leaping all the way into the water, shivering as the water climbed up her legs.
"Now what?"

Faeryn laughed at the Siamese's reaction to the water. "Now, you swim." She instructed, circling around Rose in quick movements. "Use your leg muscles and paws to push forwards and downwards through the water, almost like running, maybe like flying - but it is swimming.
"Keep your head above the water and look to where you want to go."
