FlameAbbie walked through the plains, her automatic guards up. It was common for her to take every action she could to guard herself, or else someone may sneak up behind her since she couldn't hear them. It had happened to her more than a few times, and she wouldn't put it past cats in the Plains. Of course, she was lost in thought while using these instinctive defenses, she quickly moved into a defensive stance when she spotted motion out of the corner of her eye. When end she saw that this orange tabby probably wasn't sneaking up on her, she relaxed and assumed a sitting position. "Oh, I am sorry," she said, knowing the words would probably be a bit slurred as she wasn't paying attention to the movement of her mouth as she spoke. She had practiced speaking enough to do it well enough to blen into the crowd, but it still took focus to speak smoothly. "You startled me,"

Flame decided to go for a small walk away from the Farm area. He never knew why he stayed there, considering the remains of his family would never come back. Why did they leave him? Because he couldn't speak Flame answered himself. It was his fault their mother died, and everyone knew it. Ripple, his sweet sister, always said that it was never his fault, but Flame knew that it was and that she was just trying to make him feel better.
With all these thoughts running through Flame's head he never noticed a pretty white she-cat until he was about three fox-tails away from her. Stopping in his tracks, Flame slightly jumped the she-cat noticed him and jumped into a defensive stance. Did she not hear me when I was approaching her? Flame asked himself, only to forget about it when the pretty white cat told him she was sorry and that he startled her. Oh, dear. How am I suppose to answer to that? Flame silently fretted. Opening his mouth, Flame willed with all his might for words to come out, but nothing happen. Sheepishly closing his mouth, Flame just gave a tiny nod.

Abbie tilted her head. For all she knew, this cat had said something when he opened his mouth, but she wasn't sure what it was. Then again, maybe he didn't say something at all, but most cats did every times they opened their mouths. "Can you speak?" she said slowly, enunciating each word slowly. She honestly wasn't sure what tone she had as she didn't make any effort to bother with a tone. She has learned them to blend in more, but they, too, took work. (Bleh, so little muse right now)

Flame felt his pelt prickle slightly in embarrassment as the white she-cat asked him that question. Looking at her with big green eyes, Flame shook his head. Then, lifting a paw, Flame touched his ear, then pointed it toward the she-cat, hoping that she would understand his question.
(Mine is slowly trying to escape my grasp...)

Abbie tilted her head. "I cannot hear." she responded, assuming that was what the cat had asked, "I do read lips though."

That's just strange. Flame couldn't speak and the white she-cat couldn't hear, but then she could speak and Flame could hear. Flame shrugged as if to say, 'Well, that's the thing'.
