A female cat wandered into the outskirts of her clan territory one night. It was very cold, and the snowflakes brushed her flank as they drifted downwards, frosting the tips of her fine hairs and, carried by the wind, swirled all around and in between her legs, like house cats. She trembled gently, and as she walked along the snowy trail, her fluffy coat began to pale with accumulated flakes, until she was barely recognisable. Puppypaw stopped, her ears flickering back and forth mechanically, as they began to listen to the natural world around her. How curious! She looked up at the black sky, and her eyes fixed upon the glittering expanse of stars, and at the shadows they cast below. To her, it didn't feel like she was looking up. She felt like she was looking down, and if she fell right now, she would fall into the stars themselves.
It was the soft crumpling of snow which caught her curiosity, and she directed her ears towards it in a delicate manner. Was somebody out there? She lifted each of her snowshoed paws, one after the other, and listened softly, before deciding finally to call out into the dark. "Hello? I mean you no harm."
