Prologue...
Thymenose wheezed as he climbed to the top of the hill. He and the other Medicine Cats were traveling to the Moonrock so they could share tongues with StarClan. A flash of silver showed that Fishberry, StreamClan's Medicine Cat, was there.
"I wonder where Grassbreeze and Mintpaw are?" Fishberry grunted, settling beside Thymenose. "Those MeadowClan cats are always boasting of how fast they are, yet their Medicine Cats are almost late!"
"I heard that!" Hissed a cat from behind. Thymenose and Fishberry turned around to see Grassbreeze and her apprentice, Mintpaw. "Whitewillow was complaining of sore bones." Grassbreeze meowed, pandering past Thymenose and flicking Fishberry's ear with her yellow tabby tail.
"Well, we are all here! Let's go." Thymenose meowed. The four cats continued on their way to the Moonrock and padded into the dark tunnel that led towards it.
"Thymenose, it is about time that you got yourself an apprentice!" Hissed Grassbreeze. "I can hear you bones creaking!" It was true that Thymenose was starting to get older, and that he still hadn't found an apprentice.
"I have to find the right one, Grassbreeze." Thymenose meowed gently. The cats fell silent when they entered the Moonrock cave. As each cat found a spot near the dark rock in the middle, the moon shone through a hole in top of the cave and the moonlight hit the Moonrock. The whole cave lit up brightly, and all the cats lightly pressed their muzzle to the cold lit up rock, and began to dream of StarClan...
Thymenose woke up in the middle of a warm grassy clearing. He got up and stretched, taking in the warmth. The sun was making his dusty yellow pelt glow a little. There was a rustle behind a bush in front of him and a white she-cat slid out.
"Whitecloud!" Thymenose purred at the sight of his old mentor.
"It's good to see you again, Thymenose." Purred the StarClan cat.
Thymenose was about to rub against the she-cat when he noticed the look in her eyes. "LightningClan is in danger, isn't it?" He meowed, his fur prickling.
"When danger rises, hope will hatch..." Whitecloud's voice sounded very distant and wise. "But hope can lie..."
"Hope can lie?" Thymenose repeated, "What is the point of hope when it lies?" Whitecloud was beginning to fade away. "Wait!" Thymenose yowled, "Why would hope lie?"

Chapter One...
Chickenkit yawned as he opened his yellow eyes. He purred quietly as he cuddled closer to his mother, Birdsong. Stretching his fuzzy white legs, Chickenkit accidentally prodded his brother, Roosterkit.
Roosterkit grunted, "Go away." Flicking his ginger tail at Chickenkit. Chickenkit shifted toward his sister, Eggkit, who was curled up into a tiny ball at Birdsong's white belly.
"Wake up, Eggkit." Chickenkit mewed gently, nosing his sister's ear.
Eggkit's tail twitched, "Don't let them get me." She whimpered, still sleeping. Chickenkit felt sympathy for his small sister, she was so delicate compared to him and Roosterkit. Suddenly, Eggkit let out a loud squeak and jumped into Birdsong. Birdsong jumped as she was pummeled by tiny paws, and woke Roosterkit.
"Where is the badger?" Yelped Roosterkit, still half asleep.
Birdsong nuzzled the three kits, "Don't worry young ones, Eggkit just had a bad dream." Licking Eggkit softly on her cream colored head, Birdsong meowed, "Roosterkit, Chickenkit. Why don't you go outside and play while I calm Eggkit down?"
"Okay!" Meowed Chickenkit and Roosterkit, bolting toward the exit of the Nursery. They blinked as the sunlight hit their eyes. Chickenkit smiled as he gazed around camp. Foxtrot and Coweye with basking in the sun outside of the Elders Den, Squirrelpaw and Molepaw were cleaning out the Apprentices Den while Pebblepaw walked into camp with a mouse along with her mentor, Waterfoot.
"I can't wait until we are Warriors!" Exclaimed Roosterkit, sinking his claws into the sandy ground.
"You still have to go through training, Mousebrain!" Called a voice from behind. Chickenkit and Roosterkit turned around to see Slimekit sliding out of the Nursery. "And that won't happen for another two moons!"
"I thought you were asleep." Chickenkit meowed.
Slimekit looked annoyed. "It is impossible to get any sleep with your annoying sister whimpering to Birdsong about her last nightmare." She hissed, lashing her dark gray tail. "I can't wait until I am an Apprentice!" She added, "I could finally get away from her stupid dreams for a while."
"You won't stay away for long." Teased Roosterkit, holding his head high. Chickenkit realized that his brother was taller than Slimekit. "We are only a moon younger than you."
"A moon and a half!" Corrected Slimekit, flexing her claws. "I would already be a Warrior by the time you three get there! I can fight the two of you at the same time and still win."
"Is that a challenge?" Meowed Roosterkit, lowering himself. Chickenkit copied his brother, wondering if this was really going to end up in a fight like it usually did. Slimekit is so proud that she must think that she could take on Stormstar! Chickenkit thought.
Slimekit sneered and launched herself towards Roosterkit by surprise, knocking him over. Chickenkit rushed forward and grabbed Slimekit's tail, trying to pull her off of Roosterkit. Slimekit twisted quickly and scraped his nose with her claws. She is fighting with her claws! Chickenkit thought with surprise. Her pride is too big now!
"Too afraid to fight, Chickenkit?" Teased Slimekit, her light amber eyes flashing. Just then, Roosterkit launched himself at her and tackled her to the ground. Slimekit lived to her name and somehow slithered out of Roosterkit's grip, but Chickenkit was too fast. Chickenkit rammed into her and Slimekit tripped over Roosterkit. Roosterkit flipped over and pinned Slimekit down.
"What is going on?" Screeched a she-cat. Chickenkit saw flash of black fur and Clawtail, Slimekit's mother, was hauling Roosterkit off of Slimekit.
"We were fighting!" Meowed Slimekit, she souned really annoyed that her mother had to bail her out.
"Why weren't you winning, then?" Hissed Clawtail, "You are almost an Apprentice, Slimekit."
"What's happening?" Meowed Birdsong, sliding out of the Nursery entrance, Eggkit close behind her, her green eyes wide.
"Roosterkit and Chickenkit were fighting me!" Whimpered Slimekit, acting if she was innocent. Chickenkit wrinkled his nose. She was lying!
"She started it!" Yelled Roosterkit, his ginger tail lashing.
"No I didn't!" Retorted Slimekit, loud enough that the Elders and the Apprentices stopped what they were doing to look at them.
"Calm down you three." Birdsong meowed gently, "Roosterkit Chickenkit, never let anger get the best of you. Now apologize to Slimekit for the unfair fight."
"Sorry, Slimekit." Meowed Chickenkit politely, while Roosterkit glared at her.
"Birdsong, you better get those two under control!" Hissed Clawtail, waving her savaged tail. "They need to learn more discipline like Slimekit. Come on, Slimekit, let's teach you more about fighting..." Clawtail and Slimekit both left with a glare and Chickenkit, Birdsong, Roosterkit, and Eggkit were left there.
"Now I really can't wait to be a Warrior!" Whispered Roosterkit to Chickenkit. Chickenkit nodded, looking up at the Leaders Den. If I was Leader I would make Slimekit pay!

Chapter two...
"I, Stormstar, Leader of LightningClan, am proud to announce two new Warriors!" "Squirreltail, Moleshade! Squirreltail, Moleshade!" Cheered the cats as the newly named Warriors rose their heads proudly.
"Hold still, Chickenkit!" Scolded Birdsong, trying to clean up her kits. Chickenkit couldn't hold still though. He, Roosterkit, and Eggkit were one six moons old and they knew that they were about to get their Apprentice names.
"Who do you think my mentor will be?" Chickenkit asked Roosterkit, ignoring his mother's scolding.
"I don't know but I hope I get someone cool, like Hawkflight, Stormstar, or Darkear!" Meowed Roosterkit, flexing in claws.
"Hawkflight's our father! You can't get him!" Chickenkit argued, pulling away from Birdsong.
"What if I get Stormstar?" Fretted Eggkit, her eyes wide. "I would never be a Warrior!"
"If you get Stormstar you would be one of the best Warriors!" Meowed Chickenkit encouragingly. He knew that Eggkit was always nervous about big things and that this was going to be tough for her.
"It doesn't matter who you get," Purred Birdsong, "You three will always make me proud."
"I have another announcement to make!" Called Stormstar, flicking his gray tabby tail, "Three new kits will be made as Apprentices today! Roosterkit, Chickenkit, and Eggkit. Please come forward."
Chickenkit felt like his heart was going to jump out of his chest. Roosterkit strode proudly forward and Chickenkit tried to copy him. Eggkit was less confident, but she still followed.
"Roosterkit, from now on, until you get your Warrior name, you shall be known as Roosterpaw. Sheepfuzz," Stormstar called the fluffy white Warrior forward and you could see the disappointment flash in Roosterpaw's eyes, "I hope that you can pass on your kindness and your patience." Roosterpaw touched noses with Sheepfuzz and sat near Slimepaw and her mentor, Rivershine.
"Chickenkit, from now on, until you get your Warrior name, you shall be known as Chickenpaw." Chickenpaw's heart soared when he heard this. "Leaffall, I hope that you can pass on your skill in hunting and your grace." Chickenpaw was so excited when he touched noses with the dappled ginger tom. They padded back into the crowd and the newly named Chickenpaw sat by Roosterpaw.
"And last but not least," Stormstar continued, Chickenpaw could hardly wait to hear his sister being given her Apprentice name. "Eggkit come forward." The cream colored she-cat slowly padded forward, her eyes full of worry. "From now on, until you earn your full name, you shall be known as Eggpaw. Thymenose," Stormstar called the Medicine Cat over, but Chickenpaw could hardly believe his ears. His sister was going to be a Medicine Cat? Why couldn't they all be Warriors? Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw exchanged looks, both of them were astonished. "I hope that you can pass down all you know to Eggpaw." Finished Stormstar.
Thymenose bowed his dusty yellow head. "I will do my best, Stormstar." He meowed.
"Roosterpaw, Chickenpaw, Eggpaw!" Yowled the Clan cats.
"Squirreltail, Moleshade," Meowed Stormstar, turning back to the newly made Warriors. "You have a silent vigil tonight." The two toms nodded. The Clan began to break away from the crowd and Birdsong padded toward her kits, Hawkflight following close behind her.
"I am so proud of you three!" Gushed Birdsong, nuzzling her kits. Chickenpaw couldn't believe that they were Apprentices, and that Eggpaw was going to be a Medicine Cat.
"I hope to hear good things about your training." Meowed Hawkflight firmly, though his yellow eyes full of love. Chickenpaw nodded eagerly, while Roosterpaw just nodded firmly. Eggpaw shuffled her paws nervously.
"I'm sorry that I'm not going to be a Warrior." Mewed Eggpaw, not looking at her parents. Chickenpaw now understood why she had to take this path. Eggpaw was smaller and more shy than he and Roosterpaw, and she always seemed to stand out more.
"I am not disappointed." Birdsong purred, curling her tail around Eggpaw. "I am very proud to have a daughter that is going to make a wonderful Medicine Cat." Then, licking Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw on the head, she meowed, "And I am proud to have two sons that will make strong Warriors."
"You three better go see your mentors and see what they need." Meowed Hawkflight, and Chickenpaw suddenly felt really excited to start his training. Birdsong gave each kit one more lick and stood beside Hawkflight.
Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw padded toward their mentors, while Eggpaw made her way toward the Medicine Cat's Den. Leaffall waved his tail towards the Apprentices Den and meowed, "Go and sort out your nest and get comfortable. We will start training in the morning!"
Sheepfuzz nodded, "We will be exploring the territory and check the borders. Better get some sleep, we are going to do a lot of traveling tomorrow!" She added, before padding off towards the Warriors Den. Leaffall nodded to the two Apprentices and headed towards the Fresh-kill pile.
"I can't believe that I got Sheepfuzz!" Snorted Roosterpaw, as they made their way towards the Apprentices Den.
"I can't believe that Eggpaw is with Thymenose!" Meowed Chickenpaw, missing his sister. "I thought we were all going to be Warriors."
As the two toms padded into the Apprentices Den, a dark gray she-cat glared at them from her nest. "Well, well..." Slimepaw mused, "I guess I will get good sleep without your sister waking me up! Missing your little fur-ball, Chickenpaw?"
Before Chickenpaw or Roosterpaw could say anything, a gray she-cat with white speckles slid into the den. "Shut up, Slimepaw." Meowed Pebblepaw, her blue eyes flashing. "That is no way to treat new Denmates!" Turning to face Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw, she meowed, "Ignore her, she is just angry that she can't get more moss for herself." Slimepaw hissed, but Pebblepaw ignored her. "You can take Squirreltail's and Moleshade's old nests." She flicked her tail toward two nests in the corner of the den.
"Thanks." Meowed Chickenpaw, padding toward the first nest. From the scent of it, it was probably Squirreltail's. He could change the moss tomorrow.
"Better get some sleep!" Meowed Pebblepaw, getting into her own nest. "The first day is always the busiest!"
Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw curled up into their new nests and closed their eyes. Chickenpaw already missed sleeping beside Birdsong, Roosterpaw, and Eggpaw in one big nest. He missed the Nursery and the warm scent of milk. Chickenpaw shook away the sadness. He was now an Apprentice and he was on his journey to becoming a Warrior...

Chapter Three...
"Chickenpaw! Wake up!" Chickenpaw woke with a start, his yellow eyes blinking sleepily. "Come on, training starts soon!" Chickenpaw suddenly realized what was going on. Jumping to his paws, Chickenpaw shook his white pelt and tried to forget his disturbing dreams. The shrieks of cats and wails of battle still rang through his ears as he stumbled out of the Apprentices Den, almost running into Leaffall. "Wake up, and go get Roosterpaw," Leaffall meowed, "Then help yourself to some Fresh-kill, we will be leaving soon!"
Chickenpaw poked his head back into the Apprentices Den, realizing that Pebblepaw and Slimepaw were already gone. Maybe they were part of the dawn patrol. Thought Chickenpaw, padding up to the sleeping form of his brother. Chickenpaw prodded Roosterpaw, but Roosterpaw just rolled over and continued to sleep.
"Roosterpaw, wake up!" Chickenpaw meowed, prodding him again. Roosterpaw didn't move. Chickenpaw sighed and yelled, "Roosterpaw, wake up! The Clan is under attack!" Roosterpaw jumped and scrambled to his paws.
"What is it?" He meowed, shaking his head to get rid of the sleepiness.
"Our mentors," Purred Chickenpaw, "Come on, it's time for training!" When the two toms pushed out of the Apprentices Den, Chickenpaw saw Leaffall and Sheepfuzz waiting by the entrance of the camp. "Lets hurry!"
Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw rushed toward the Fresh-kill pile, but Slimepaw was there also. Slimepaw dropped a mouse into pile, then looked up at them and sneered. "Hope you enjoy the prey that I caught."
"Slimepaw!" Meowed Pebblepaw, depositing her fat squirrel into the pile, "Don't forget that you are taking care of the Elder's ticks."
Slimepaw rolled her eyes and muttered, "Lazy old flea-bags!" She stomped off toward the Medicine Cats Den, still muttering. "They do nothing but collect fleas and ticks!"
Pebblepaw looked amused, "I don't know what ruffled her fur." She looked back at Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw, "Hurry and eat. Your mentors are waiting!"
"Thanks, Pebblepaw!" Purred Chickenpaw, and the gray and white she-cat nodded. Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw settled down and began to eat. They shared the squirrel that Pebblepaw caught.
"You like Pebblepaw, don't you?" Roosterpaw asked, his yellow eyes narrowing.
"She is nice." Chickenpaw meowed, taking a mouthful of squirrel. He didn't want to talk about this... "She knows how to take care of Slimepaw."
"But you like like her, right?" Roosterpaw asked, not dropping the question. Chickenpaw shrugged.
"I wish that Eggpaw could train with us..." Chickenpaw changed the subject.
This time, Roosterpaw shrugged. "She looks happy."
When Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw finished their food, Leaffall flicked his tail, "Let's go."
Leaffall and Sheepfuzz lead the way out of the camp and Chickenpaw was trying not to hop with excitement. Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw both gasped as they pushed through the bramble entrance. The forest around them was beautiful! Leaves were bright green, and the trees above them seem to reach for the sky.
"I never knew that the forest was this big!" Exclaimed Chickenpaw, his yellow eye gleaming with excitement. He couldn't wait till he caught his first mouse!
"I remember the first time I was out of camp." Purred Sheepfuzz, her fluffy white tail gently sweeping the forest ground. Roosterpaw rolled his eyes. "If you listen carefully, you can hear squirrels in the trees and mice rustling around in the bushes!"
Chickenpaw pricked his ears, and sure enough, he could hear prey running around. Chickenpaw nodded and Roosterpaw flicked his tail excitedly.
"Can we go hunting now?" Roosterpaw asked, peering into bushes and sniffing the air.
"Not yet," Leaffall meowed, "We are going to show you the different Clans."
"What can you tell us about the Clans now?" Sheepfuzz asked.
"Well, there is MeadowClan," Began Chickenpaw, "They are the fastest out of the Clans. And then there is StreamClan-"
"They can swim," Interrupted Roosterpaw, "How can they even do that? I can't even think of trying!"
"Just the same way how we can climb trees and MeadowClan can run fast." Meowed Leaffall, nodding. "You two are correct, now, can you tell me where MeadowClan might live?"
"In a meadow, obviously." Roosterpaw snorted, "Why else would they be called that?"
Leaffall rolled his eyes. "Yes, I guess so. But can you describe it?"
This time Chickenpaw spoke up. "In a grassy plain where rabbits like to live."
"Correct!" Meowed Leaffall, his yellow eyes gleaming. "Now where would StreamClan live? And don't say by a stream!" He added.
"By water where they can find fish." Muttered Roosterpaw. "Fish, I wonder what that tastes like."
"Probably slimy and gross." Answered Chickenpaw, shuddering at the thought of him as a StreamClan cat.
"Like Slimepaw!" Whispered Roosterpaw, breaking out into a bought of laughter. Chickenpaw joined in.
"Hey! This is not the time for laughing and playing around like kits!" Meowed Leaffall, "You are Apprentices now and you have to behave like one!" Once Chickenpaw and Roosterpaw stopped laughing, Leaffall meowed, "Now, I want you two to use your noses and ears and try and tell me where MeadowClan and StreamClan are."
Chickenpaw lifted his head and opened his mouth. I just got to smell a rabbit and fish. This is going to be easy! Chickenpaw sniffed, but couldn't smell any prey. The scents of the forest we're too overwhelming. Instead, he pricked his ears and try to listen for a stream. He could hear a small stream, but if StreamClan caught fish, they would probably be by a larger one. "Over there!" Chickenpaw exclaimed, pointing his tail toward the stream he heard. "Past a small stream."
"Very good!" Exclaimed Sheepfuzz, her eyes bright.
"Show off..." Muttered Roosterpaw, playfully shouldering Chickenpaw.
"Nice," Meowed Leaffall, "That stream that you heard is inside our territory. There is another stream after that one, that one is our border with StreamClan. Come along, I'll show you."
The four cats walked through the forest. Chickenpaw made sure that he memorized the path toward StreamClan territory. Soon, they came the first stream. "See how the second stream is only a few fox-tail lengths away from this one?" Sheepfuzz meowed, flicking her tail toward the second stream.
"Can we get closer?" Roosterpaw asked, getting ready to jump across.
"Yes, but be careful of the edges, they are slippery." Leaffall meowed, and Roosterpaw easily leaped across the stream. The other cats followed and came to the second stream. This one was larger and it had a rock in the middle of it.
"Get a good sniff, you need to remember this scent." Sheepfuzz meowed, and Chickenpaw sniffed and shuddered. This scent smelled fishy and of wet leaves.
"How can they stand the smell of themselves?" Asked Roosterpaw, wrinkling his nose.
"They probably say the same thing about us." Chickenpaw meowed.
"The rock in the middle is for getting from one territory to the next." Meowed Leaffall, flicking his tail toward the rock in the middle of the stream. "It is very slippery-"
Roosterpaw jumped and landed on the rock, flicking his ginger tail triumphantly. "That wasn't too hard."
"Get back over here!" Hissed Leaffall, "That's dangerous!"
"Roosterpaw, be careful!" Meowed Sheepfuzz. Chickenpaw could hardly believe what his brother was doing. What if he fell into the river?
"What is that Apprentice doing?" Yowled a cat. Chickenpaw gasped as a ginger tabby slid out of a bush on the other side of the river. A gray and white tom, a golden she-cat, and a brown and white tabby she-cat that looked like an Apprentice followed him out.
"LightningClan is trying to invade?" Hissed the golden she-cat, narrowing her amber eyes.
"Quiet, Jumpberry!" The ginger tabby tom meowed, flicking his tail. "Let's see what they have to say."
Leaffall nodded gratefully, "Thank you, Reedfin." He meowed, "Roosterpaw was just getting a closer look." He shot a glare at Roosterpaw.
"Please let him come back!" Meowed Sheepfuzz, "This is his first time out."
Reedfin dipped his head, "Very well." Roosterpaw jumped back and kept his head down, clearly embarrassed. "Keep your Apprentices in line, Leaffall. I won't forgive easily every time." With a flick of his tail, the patrol disappeared back into their territory.
Leaffall lashed his tail, "What were you thinking? Mousebrain!" Roosterpaw his head down. Chickenpaw felt sympathy for his brother.
"Take it easy, Leaffall." Sheepfuzz meowed, "He was curious."
"We are going back to camp, now!" Leaffall meowed, "You will clean the Elder's bedding." He glared at Roosterpaw. "And you will meet me at the Training Hollow." He looked at Chickenpaw, and Chickenpaw squirmed a little under his yellow gaze. Being an Apprentice is a lot harder than I thought! Chickenpaw thought.

Chapter Four...
Chickenpaw landed with a grunt, winded from the blow. His nose stung from the swipes that his brother landed. Chickenpaw struggled to his paws, gasping for breath.
"Good job, Roosterpaw!" Sheepfuzz meowed, "You getting the hang of that move!" Roosterpaw flicked his paw proudly.
Leaffall turned toward Chickenpaw, flicking his ginger and black tail. "You are do good as well." He meowed, "When he tries to trip you again, lean forward, and flop on top of him."
Chickenpaw nodded, and faced Roosterpaw. Lean forward and flop on top of him. He repeated to himself. He and Roosterpaw had been Apprentices for a moon and a half now, and they had both been doing very well. Chickenpaw purred quietly as he remembered the look on Slimepaw's face when he brought back his first prey, a fat squirrel. Roosterpaw had also brought back a mouse. Roosterpaw suddenly dove forward, swiping hard at Chickenpaw's feet. Chickenpaw took the blow, leaning forward and crashing into Roosterpaw.
Roosterpaw stumbled away. "Your not suppose to fall into me!" He meowed, an amusing look flashed into his eyes.
"He's still on his paws at least!" Leaffall called, "That was fine, Chickenpaw, but next time, try landing on top of him. That way, you can take his back." Leaffall flicked his paw and pulled it over his ear. "That's enough training for today, You two have done well." He padded out of the Training Hollow, Sheepfuzz following him out.
Chickenpaw stretched, "You are a lot heavier than you look!" He teased, "When you shoved your paws into my stomach, I thought that a badger was sitting in me!"
Roosterpaw shouldered him playfully, "You are faster than me, though. You skimmed up that tree like you were a squirrel!" The two brothers padded back to camp with their pelts brushing together. When they walked inside, Pebblepaw trotted up to them, her blue eyes gleaming.
"You two are going to the Gathering tonight!" She meowed, her gray and white tail curling happily. "You should have saw the look on Slimepaw's face when Stormstar said that you two were going and not her!" She purred, "You guys are going to love it! It's so fun meeting the other cats!"
Chickenpaw looked at his brother happily. "We are going to the Gathering!" He exclaimed.
"Finally!" Roosterpaw meowed, flexing his claws. "I can't wait!"
"Are you going too?" Asked Chickenpaw, turning back towards Pebblepaw. She shook her head.
"No, but I want you to tell me everything that happens!" Pebblepaw waved her tail, "Good luck!" She padded towards the Fresh-kill pile, taking a mouse and settling down by her mentor, Waterfoot.
"I can't wait to see who is going to be there at the Gathering!" Exclaimed Roosterpaw, licking his shoulder.
"I want to get to know a few cats from the other Clans." Chickenpaw meowed, "I wonder what StreamClan cats are like. When they aren't scolding you!" He added, playfully flicking his tail at his brother's ear.
"I told you! I just wanted a closer look!" Meowed Roosterpaw, rolling his eyes. "I didn't know that the Deputy was going to see me!"
"At least it wasn't Rockstar!" Meowed Chickenpaw.
"But it was Reedfin, the Deputy!" A cat growled behind him. Chickenpaw turned to see Slimepaw. Her gray tabby pelt shining as if she was planning to go to the Gathering. "I heard that you two are going to the Gathering," Slimepaw scowled, her pale amber eyes flashing, "Bravo! But I wouldn't get too comfortable if I were you two! StreamClan is accusing us for stealing their stinky fish, and I think that they are will not like having LightningClan Apprentices trespassing on their territory!" Slimepaw shot a glare at Roosterpaw.
"Good thing that you are not trespassing on their territory, huh Slimepaw?" Chickenpaw replied, touching his tail to Roosterpaw's flank, stopping him from going after Slimepaw.
"You know I mean Roo- Just forget it! You two fluff-brains don't know anything!" Slimepaw stomped off towards the Apprentices Den, her tail lashing.
"Good thing that you hang out with Pebblepaw," Roosterpaw murmured into Chickenpaw's ear. "I would've ripped off her pelt!"
"And then you won't be able to go to the Gathering." Finished Chickenpaw. "C'mon, Hawkflight is about to say who's going to the Gathering." The brothers hurried off toward the High Rock.
"Catpelt, Leaffall, Sheepfuzz, Mousewhisker, Darkear, Birdsong, Roosterpaw, Chickenpaw, Eggpaw, and Foxtrot." Hawkflight named off cats and they began to gather at the entrance of the camp.
Stormstar stood at the front of the group, gazing at his cats. With a flick of his tail, the group dashed out of the camp with their campmates shouting. "Tell me what happens!" "I'll be waiting for you!" "Have fun!"
Chickenpaw purred loudly as he felt the cold wind whip his fur, the excitement of the Gathering pulsed off of every cat. I wonder what it is like! Chickenpaw was excited to meet the cats from other Clans and see how they acted. He was excited to hear the Leaders share about their Clans.
Roosterpaw brushed his pelt against Chickenpaw's. "I can't wait!" He meowed, "Imagine when I get to lead the Clan to the Gatherings! It would be so cool!"
"What about me?" Joked Chickenpaw, keeping the pace.
"Oh, don't worry!" Purred Roosterpaw, "You would make a great Deputy for me!"
The Clan cats kept running until they made it to a ravine with a river thundering in it. Chickenpaw caught a glance of Eggpaw, her green eyes wide with fear as she pressed close to Thymenose. Chickenpaw jumped has another cat pressed close to him.
"Stay close to me and your mentor." Meowed Birdsong, she licked the top of Chickenpaw's head, "It isn't as bad as it looks." Chickenpaw pressed close to her, her sweet scent reminding him of when he was in the Nursery.
"Chickenpaw," Leaffall meowed, jerking Chickenpaw away from his memories, "Come on, it is your turn."
Chickenpaw nervously padded up to the ravine, noticing that there was a long tree that had fallen over. It made a nice pathway. Chickenpaw watched as Leaffall jumped on top of it, sinking his claws into it. Chickenpaw followed slowly, carefully placing one paw in front of the other. Chickenpaw only slipped once, and Birdsong quickly grabbed his scruff and steadied him. Chickenpaw took a deep breath, staring at the thundering water below. He imagined the body of a cat being tossed around on the vicious waves.
"Hurry up, Chickenpaw!" Meowed Roosterpaw, behind Birdsong. Birdsong flicked his ear with her tail.
"Take your time, young one." Birdsong mewed gently, blinking sweetly at him. Chickenpaw nodded, slowly beginning his path again. Chickenpaw sighed in relief as he jumped off the tree and onto the soft grass. Roosterpaw landed beside him.
"I wasn't scared one bit!" He boasted, puffing out his chest. Chickenpaw rolled his eyes.
"If you slipped you would go squealing back to the Nursery!" Teased Chickenpaw, giving his brother a friendly shove. Roosterpaw opened to open his mouth to say something when Chickenpaw noticed Eggpaw on the tree. She was doing fine, but then an owl screeched loudly, flying over the crossing cats. Chickenpaw flattened his ears and pressed close to Roosterpaw, who was crouching low the ground.
"Eggpaw!" Chickenpaw wailed as he saw his sister slip and go tumbling off the tree towards the crashing waves below.

Chapter Five...
As fast a lightning, Thymenose dove forward, snatching Eggpaw's scruff. Sheepfuzz dug her claws into the tree and leaned over, helping Thymenose lift Eggpaw up. Chickenpaw sighed as Eggpaw set her paws onto the tree again. She almost fell into the water! Chickenpaw thought, shivering at the thought. Right as Eggpaw jumped off the tree, Birdsong smothered her in licks.
"Are you okay, honey?" She asked between her frantic licks, "Thank you so much, Thymenose!"
Thymenose just nodded, "Are you okay Eggpaw?" Eggpaw nodded, pressing close to Birdsong.
Chickenpaw hurried over to her, Roosterpaw right behind him. "Wow!" He gasped, not even sure what to say. "That owl better know that it messed with the wrong Clan!"
"Is everything okay?" Stormstar meowed, pushing himself through the group.
"Eggpaw just had a little slip..." Sheepfuzz meowed, her eyes full of worry as she looked at Eggpaw.
Chickenpaw expected Stormstar to be more worried, but instead, Stormstar purred! "Don't worry, Eggpaw." He purred, "I'm sure about every cat here almost fell off of that tree, including me." Chickenpaw stared at Stormstar. He almost fell off the tree?
Hawkflight padded beside Stormstar. "Stormstar," He meowed, "The other Clans are waiting."
"Right," Stormstar squared his shoulders, "Follow me." Eggpaw shook her pelt and followed Thymenose, her paws still a little shaky. Stormstar slid through some bushes and Chickenpaw could hear and scent a lot of different cats. Pushing though the bushes, Chickenpaw gasped. There was so many of them! The trees were so talk that they looked like they touched the stars, and there was a large rock to the side where Stormstar padded towards. A silver and white she-cat and a light brown tom were already up on it. Chickenpaw guessed that they were Rockstar and Rabbitstar.
"C'mon, Chickenpaw!" Yowled Roosterpaw, bounding towards the gathered cats. Chickenpaw noticed Leaffall slide up next to him.
"I can tour you around if you want." He meowed, his dappled pelt shining in the bright moonlight.
"Sure!" Chickenpaw meowed, and Leaffall started down the hill. Chickenpaw followed closely behind.
"That is the Leader's Rock." Leaffall meowed, flicking his tail toward the rock that Rockstar and Rabbitstar were on. "Rabbitstar is known for his speed and patience. Rockstar is very well known to... Well, go crazy during battles." Leaffall stopped, "You can talk to any cat you want to. You can learn about them, so you know how to beat them if you meet them in a battle. It is good to be friendly at Gatherings, but don't tell them about any Clan secrets, even if they tell you some." Leaffall gazed towards a group of warriors. "Got that?"
"Yeah," Chickenpaw meowed, excited to meet a few cats. He spotted a group of Apprentices that were talking to Roosterpaw. StreamClan, by the smell of them.
"Ask me if you need anything." Leaffall padded off towards the group, leaving Chickenpaw alone. He scanned the area. Foxtrot, a ginger elder, a talking to a fluffy white she-cat, a gray and black tom, and a pretty tortoise she-cat who didn't really look like she should've been an elder. Birdsong was with Hawkflight, talking to three MeadowClan cats. Catpelt was sitting closely to Mousewhisker, talking to a yellow tabby she-cat from StreamClan. Chickenpaw just realized how crowded the whole clearing seemed.
"Chickenpaw! Over here!" Roosterpaw called, waving his tail over to the group of Apprentices he was by. Chickenpaw carefully padded towards them, recognizing the tabby and white she-cat from when Roosterpaw got in trouble by Reedfin.
"I'm Shellpaw!" She greeted, "I remember you from when Roosterpaw was on the crossing rocks." She flicked her tail towards the cats sitting next to her. "This is my sister, Seapaw." She gestured towards the gray tabby she-cat, then to a small ginger tom and light ginger tom. "This is Crabpaw and Troutpaw!"
"I'm Chickenpaw." Greeted Chickenpaw, wondering how he was supposed to remember all of these cats.
Troutpaw twitched his ears. "Are you and Roosterpaw brothers?"
Chickenpaw nodded. "Yes, we also have a sister, Eggpaw. She is a medicine cat apprentice."
Crabpaw purred, "Troutpaw and I have another brother, but he is back at camp," Crabpaw leaned in a little closer. "He got in trouble for putting a thorn in Seapaw's nest!"
"Weedpaw was jealous that I beat him during battle practice today!" Seapaw boasted, lifting her gray tabby tail high. Chickenpaw purred. These cats seemed really nice and funny.
"Shellpaw, who is your mentor?" Roosterpaw asked, pulling Chickenpaw away from his thoughts. Apparently he and Shellpaw were talking to each other while Chickenpaw had been talking to Seapaw, Troutpaw, and Crabpaw.
Shellpaw twitched her whiskers. "Reedfin!" She purred, clearly amused that Roosterpaw had gotten in trouble by him.
"Reedfin?" Gasped Roosterpaw, "The Deputy?" Shellpaw nodded. "Of course it is him!"
"What are you two talking about?" Chickenpaw asked. Roosterpaw jumped, suprised that someone had been listening to their conversation.
"Oh! Um- Hi, Chickenpaw!" Roosterpaw stammered, looking nervous. "We were j-just... Um-"
"Talking about our mentors." Finished Shellpaw. Chickenpaw turned to her, about to tell her that his brother could tell him what they were doing when Chickenpaw met her green gaze. He didn't realize that Shellpaw was as pretty as she was! Chickenpaw shook his head, she was a StreamClan cat! Embarrassed, Chickenpaw was lost for words.
"Excuse me, Shellpaw..." Roosterpaw nodded and led Chickenpaw away.
Chickenpaw focused again. "Roosterpaw," He quietly hissed, "She is a StreamClan cat!"
"I know!"
"Then why were you talking about your Clan? Leaffall said that we weren't supposed to tell them Clan secrets!"
"Mentors aren't Clan secrets!" Roosterpaw seemed really annoyed. "Shellpaw is a nice cat, okay? You were talking to the others!"
"They were telling me a story," Chickenpaw meowed, "I wasn't really talking to them."
"Sure," Roosterpaw grumbled, "And hedgehogs can fly!" Chickenpaw tipped his head. Why was Roosterpaw so defensive?
"Look, Roosterpaw," Chickenpaw sighed, "I am sorry I jumped to conclusions so quickly. I just thought-"
"Chickenpaw!" Leaffall called, "Come over here! The Gathering is about to begin!" Chickenpaw looked at his brother, expecting him to go with him, but Roosterpaw was already heading back towards the group of StreamClan apprentices.

Chapter Six...
"What's wrong?" Leaffall asked as Chickenpaw sat down beside him.
"Roosterpaw," Chickenpaw mumbled, "I thought that he was sharing secrets with a StreamClan apprentice. I tried to apologize but he isn't taking it..."
Leaffall purred, "I had three other siblings when I was younger," He twitched his whiskers, "Not that I am old or anything! I was a loner before I came to LightningClan, have you heard that? I had two other brothers and one sister. My brothers always wanted to battle and prove themselves to our father. I, like you, was more slow and wanted to make sure everyone was safe like my weaker sister. Since my brothers always thought that they were the best kept daring each other to do crazy things to see who was better. They would try and bring me into it, but I would always say no. One day, the dare was to run across a Thunderpath..." He faltered.
Chickenpaw understood. "I'm so sorry."
"No need to say sorry, Chickenpaw. You weren't there." Reassured Leaffall, brushing his tail against Chickenpaw. "Rowan and Birch were a loss to our family. My sister always said 'Leaf, it wasn't your fault'. My father kept saying that it was though, because I was there and I could have stopped them. I always apologized to him but he never accepted it. Eventually I left them and I joined LightningClan, where I became an Apprentice and then earned my Warrior Name. You see, Roosterpaw might not forgive you now, but if run away from it, he will never get the chance to say that he forgives you."
Chickenpaw nodded solemnly, "Thank you for telling me this. I am truly sorry about what happened to your brothers." Leaffall curled his ginger and black tail on Chickenpaw's back. Chickenpaw felt more connected to his mentor somehow. Maybe it was knowing that his mentor was willing to share his hard past with him.
"May the Gathering begin!" Stormstar called loudly. All of the chatter quickly died away. Stormstar nodded towards Rabbitstar, who stepped up proudly.
"We have a new litter of kits!" The brown leader meowed, "I am proud to announce Fogkit and Graykit!" MeadowClan cheered loudly. A long furred gray warrior held his head high. Chickenpaw guessed that he was the father.
"The two of them are darling!" A cat whispered behind him. Chickenpaw looked over his shoulder to see a old white she-cat whispering to Foxtrot. "Rainfall is such a great mother."
"And Wolfsnout must be a proud father." The pretty tortoise elder added.
Rabbitstar continued, "Some Twoleg kits have been spotted on the moor, but they are well away from camp. StarClan has provided us many rabbits, we hope that they will be plenty during Leaf-bare as well." Rabbitstar nodded towards Stormstar, taking a step back.
