Soon after Frostbite took a new mate, Forrest, whom Dog never liked. It was too soon for his mother to love again, he was simply Tyler's replacement. While his mother was busy with her love life, Dog was working hard to become and excellent warrior. He had great potential and soon grew incredibly large, both in height and muscle.
Frostbite soon bore Forrest's kits, Oak, Willow and Beech. Beech was the runt of the litter, and when Ace and Alice arrived to inspect them, it was decided that Beech was to be put to death. Forrest, loving his family, offered his own life instead. Forrest too was a great warrior, and Ace decided that he could not kill such a feline. Instead, he ordered Dog and Coon to do it, and obediently, Coon held Forrest down while Dog bit into his throat until his body stopped twitching.
NOTE, you can read Beechstar's telling of this HERE
Time passed and Dog moved his way up the ranks, fighting numerous battles and winning them all, leaving his opponents bloody and lifeless. He became something akin to Ace's 'Deputy', and was the second highest ranked cat in the clan. Beech had been growing up as well, and had begun to develop 'ideas' about the Alley life, and opinions. He declared it wasn't right, and needing to teach him a lesson, Ace set about to make Beech's life misery.
He beat the young tom within an inch of his life, and then ordered Dog to murder Frostbite. Obeying, though with reservations, Dog chased his mother to the thunderpath and blocked her escape, until a monster came and collected her. After that, Coon sided with Beech and was also tortured. The two disappeared, and Dog continued to live on, believing them dead. He did not allow himself to grieve, out of guilt for his actions.
Moons and seasons passed, and suddenly Coon, now Coonbite returned with a patrol. Dog hid from his brother, but when Coonbite left, Dog secretly followed him, desperately hoping to see if his little brother was also alive. The scent trails led him to a giant forest, where Dog was soon discovered by his brother, now Beechstar.
While he acted distant and rude, inside Dog was singing at the discovery of his brother, and while he grudgingly accepted his offer to stay for a time in Treeclan, Dog does not yet have any intention of leaving. He doesn't plan to ever tell anyone that he came in search of his brothers, and that he was worried for them, and overjoyed that they were alive. His guilt over what he did to them has put a barrier up, though he regrets nothing. He knows who he is and accepts it, even if he doesn't like it.
During his stay at Treeclan Dog was given the apprentice Screechpaw. He had no idea why, but enjoyed the brief training they had more than he expected. After throwing acorns at Screechpaw and tossing him out of a tree, the tom was given to the new deputy Whitehawk as an apprentice. Dog still considers the two friends though.
He met Leopardfire in his early stay in Treeclan. The bristly queen was almost as big as him, which was refreshing and startling. Not only that, she had a quick mouth and a short temper, two things that Dog respected. The two hit it off and became friends. The fact that she was a queen scared Dog slightly, due to his fear of kits. On one occasion when he was forced to collect Leopardfire from the nursery to go on a hunt, he nearly stood on oe of the creatures and freaked out. He's avoided the nursery since.
After a while he received Jetpaw and Fallenpaw as apprentices. The fact that they were both female made him extremely nervous, as he had many more inhibitions about bringing them harm. However, he began their training anyway, avoiding battle tactics and physical interaction.
Leopardfire turned up again and the two proposed to go on a hunt together. It never came into fruition, and so they parted again. Jetpaw and Fallenpaw had both disappeared, and Dog was given the new apprentice Halfpaw. He began to consider requesting a warrior name from his brother. A few days later, he was named Dogfang, an official warrior of Treeclan.
If Dog had been secretly hoping getting his name would make him a better part of the clan, he was wrong. He continued to distance himself, and his apprentices continued disappearing. Feeling like a failure and wanting time alone, Dog took to sitting out in the rain, when he knew every other cat would hide indoors. That is, until he met Brackenstripe, who approached him during a downpoor and attempted to talk to him. The two got along well enough, even if the conversation was a little stilted. Eventually the tom left him alone though.
A few days later, Spiderstar made the announcement that Treeclan was to move back to its old camp. Dog was more excited than he showed, as this camp was all he had left to remember his brothers by. Beechstar and Coonbite had both disappeared moons ago, and he had begun considering disappearing after them and simply going home. This idea to go back to the old Treeclan gave him hope.
Happily back in Treeclan camp, life went on as normal. Nothing remarkable happened for quite a few moons. Dog simply continued to age.
One day, while walking out in the territory Dogfang saw a ghost. It was Beechstar, talking to Koisplash, Shadowbird and Whitefern. Recovering from his initial shock, Dog demanded to know what was happening. Beechstar explained that he had died out in the territory alone and his body had not been found and put to rest, and as such, he had been unable to move on. Along with Koisplash and the others he helped search for Beechstar's body and then bury it.
Along the way Beechstar stopped Dog to talk to him privately. He confessed that he was afraid he wouldn't be welcome in Cloudclan because he wasn't born a clan cat. He also told Dogfang that he was sure their other brother, Coonbite was also dead, and that he hadn't seen him anywhere. Dog promised Beechstar that he would look for Coonbite in the living realm, and that if Beech found their brother in Cloudclan, to send him a message. Eventually they found Beechstar's body and buried it. At peace, Beechstar ascended to Cloudclan.
Upon returning to the clan, Dogfang found both the leader and deputy to be busy and somewhat scarce. Taking it upon himself, he conducted a ceremony for the waiting apprentices and kits in the clan. He gave himself an apprentice, Fawnpaw, still reeling with inspiration from his conversation with his brother. He would undoubtedly regret it shortly.
