Thicket trounced into the clearing. By trounced he tripped over a snowdrift and fell in. Nobody around. He made a mad-dash for the river, starving and needing a meal. It was time for some good old fashioned ice fishing just like his father taught him. He really did not like treading on the ice, out of fear he would fall in and drown, but hunger made him ignore that. Now he would wait. A minnow was there. He waited patiently as it swam by his hole and WOOSH it was in his jaws. He consumed the tasty morsel with glee and then hear the brush behind him rustle. Who could it be?

Deluge bounded into the clearing, leaping on the ice in a less-than-graceful move. Her eyes widened in surprise at the slippery nature of the frozen river, and she unsheathed her claws in an attempt to regain balance. Yet again, unsuccessful. Tripping over herself, the feline cried out as her jaw hit the ice. That's going to hurt for a while, she thought bitterly.
Completely engaged in her activity (trying to get back to her feet, more or less), Deluge had not noticed the presence of another cat.

Thicket focused his gaze on the cat before him. A fellow member of the royalty? Sweet. What are you doing out here? he grunted. He was just trying not to starve to death, but he was in the mood for some fun. She look like.... Drought. His best friend. Are you related to our leader? The idea of that, Drought having a sibling, made his mouth run dry.

Deluge, at the sound of Thicket's voice, rolled over in alarm. She skidded to a halt at the edge of the river, glancing around wildly before resting her gaze on Thicket. She breathed a sigh of relief. She had seen him around the territory a few times, surely he didn't mean her harm.
"I'm just- oh, you know." Deluge stopped mid-sentence. But wait. How could she know if she could trust him, after all?
"I could ask you the same thing," she raised her chin.
"Drought is my littermate," she concluded, remembering how DeathClanners had dragged her to their camp after she had stumbled upon the territory, accidentally reuniting her with her brother. "But he's busy, so I haven't had time to catch up with him much."

He could trust her then. Well then madame I see I can trust you. If it weren't for your brother I wouldn't be here. He remembered last leafbare. It was only them. Now under the careful guidance of Drought, Deathclan was revived. It took so much to restore their homeland to greatness.
Honestly, I'm here to not starve and because I felt like exploring.

Deluge snorted. To be fair, she was relieved that most of DeathClan wasn't aware that she had been raised within the comfort of a kittypet home- although she saw nothing wrong with it, they treated it as some sort of sin. Her whiskers twitched.
"Oh? So then you two are.. close?"
She tilted her head. Hunting was still new to her, and she had never been properly taught, but she would never admit that. It would be a giveaway, and she simply could not have that.

Yeah they were close. He considered Drought a brother. Yeah we are. It's a long story. he paused, smiling. What brings you here? He never heard Drought speak of his family so to him this was very interesting. He wanted to know more about this cat, she was nearly enchanting to him.

"Oh, er.. Drought is my only family that I know of, so I thought I could find him here."
She tiptoed about the question, selecting her words carefully and concisely. She couldn't be too cautious. Whether this feline knew her brother was fine, but she didn't exactly know what kind of cat Drought was. Trust by blind association was a risk she wasn't sure she wanted to take.
"Well, tell me your story," she transitioned into quickly. The faster she could evade the topic of her origin, the better.

He was going to question her hesitation in her answer, but he figured it would be a waste of breath. He didn't know what Deluge was so he would do some careful changes. You see in my early days I was a Rogue. I stumbled upon a decaying Deathclan that was still trying to fight. Still trying to survive. There was no unity. Then cats all went away, one at a time. It was only myself and Drought eventually, but we rallied the cats and rebuilt Deathclan. Now here I am. That was a very concise version of his story.

"So would you venture to say you are Drought's second in command?" she mused, flicking her tail thoughtfully.
Deluge had to be honest. She knew next to nothing about the clans, never mind DeathClan. She didn't know much of their values, but had been there long enough to figure out that it was pretty much every cat for his or her own until Drought wanted to stir up trouble.
"Tell me about yourself," she challenged. "Why DeathClan? Do you believe in what it stands for?"

He doesn't officially have a second command, I just have his back when he needs it. He paused trying to think of an answer to her next question. Why Deathclan? He was trying to think of a good answer.
I'm a cat who needed stability, but the clans revolt me. They restrict your freedoms with their code, and while I do believe in Cloudclan unlike most Deathlcanners, I do not think a code of honour is needed. I chose Deathclan for freedom. As for me. I'm a royal cat I guess. I do what I do when I need to, but if i must ignore orders to survive I will. I'm a warrior by choice and if i don't believe in a fight I will not participate. It takes a lot for me to trust one, but if you are family of one I trust you win it. Basically, I trust you. Deathclan stands for freedom to be yourself. To many it appears to be anarchy, but it has the structure to prevent that. You are free to be you and do what you wish as long as you don't compromise the clan.

"Then why do the clans seem to be repulsed by DeathClan?" she inquired. Surely, Drought wouldn't lead a group of heathens. But for all she knew, he could be an entirely different cat than what she remembered, which wasn't much to begin with.
"What is the difference between royals and the rest of the cats within your clan?"
For a reason she couldn't pinpoint, Deluge was at ease with Thicket. It wasn't that he didn't pose a threat to her. He did. Everybody did, but if he had wanted to kill her, he would have by now, right? And besides, he said he trusted her. But words don't necessarily mean anything.

The clans view Deathclan as a gang of rogues and because the majority worship the Darkpool, it leads to religious tension. It's all about region, land, food and culture. We don't follow their code of honor so they think we are savages. Our land used to have little so you fought for what you earned, there was no opportunity to yield to an opponent. He was already pondering the next question.
Royalty are the trusted elite members of the clans, we're higher up than the others since Drought trusts us and cares about us. He wouldn't kill her unless he had to and he hoped she knew that.
