((Arid I decided to just make the thread.))
The sun was setting, causing the river to shimmer with tints of orange. Celestia lay down by the river bank. She leaned forward to lap up some water. It felt rather refreshing, she hadn't had the slightest bit of liquid for the entire day before then. Her ears twitched.
She lifted her head, slightly annoyed. She looked around, scanning the area with her vibrant green eyes. She didn't see any cats in the area, granted it was a sloppy look over. Celestia just shrugged and curled up by the river bank. Regardless, she kept her ears perked up for any noises.

Viper had been heading over to the river in hopes of getting a bit of fishing done-- a technique she had picked up during her time as a loner. She hadn't really expecting anyone else to be around, so she was a little hesitant to approach the riverbed when she spotted another she-cat by the water. The paused when the stranger glanced fleetingly in her direction, spotting green eyes pass over her spot from next to a dead-looking shrub.
Ignoring any apprehension she had about approaching the other cat, she walked over. The tabby decided to take a seat a just a over a tail-length away from the other she-cat, looking at the water for a few seconds, before focusing her green gaze on the stranger, "Hey," she started, giving a small acknowledging nod.

Celestia lifted her head to look at the newcomer. Her expression looked tired. 'Ugh, I'm too tired to give anyone the cold shoulder.' She thought to herself. "Hey, yourself." She meowed, unenthusiastically back. The she-cat briefly wondered why she didn't see her before, but she came to the conclusion that this newcomer just had a good hiding place. 'I should've used my other senses... Good self tip for the future.' She noted.

Viper's expression flickered to an amused one for a moment, a little amused at the other cat's apparent attitude. She opened her mouth to reply, but snapped her jaw shut when she spotted a slim shadow in the water. Concentrating, she slipped one paw into the water and stretched her upper body out a bit so she had better reach. A second later her free paw was skillfully gliding through the water, claws unsheathed at the last moment to hook their target. She had almost flung her catch back to the shore when it managed to wriggle out of her grip, leaving a red trail of blood behind it as it darted away. "Fox-dung!" Viper cursed as she leaned back onto the shore, her skin becoming hot with embarrassment under her half-soaked pelt.

Celestia had watched with interest. This cat seemed to really know how to get those pesky fish..! At least that's what she thought until the fish escaped. "Shame that fish was a bit more than you can handle!" She purred with amusing. "Well... I suppose I'm not one to talk. I've never caught a fish before... Splashing around looking for a fish doesn't seem to be very effective."

"I'm just not used to fishing here, is all," Viper mumbled, a faint hint of a defensive growl seeping into her voice, her edgy tone probably a product of her slightly flustered state."Actually, I found fishing to be one of the better ways of getting prey: as long as your patient and don't mind getting a little wet," she gave her drying chest a few licks, "I mean, you don't have to go through the trouble of stalking through the undergrowth to find your catch-- all you have to do is find one water source that carries fish and you can fish their for a good while, sometimes even a few moons. It's not like the fish can just jump out and run away"

Celestia listened and nodded. "I don't know how to fish... So I settle for whatever I can find. Which usually isn't much..." She looked at herself. She was on the scrawnier side. It looked odd, since she wasn't naturally skinny anyways. "Finding prey on land is sort of hit and miss... At least for me. The prey doesn't shut up until you've snapped its neck." She scowled. "Always scares off everything else in the area. Messes up my chances for a decent meal."

Viper nodded, "And thats why I stick to rivers, when I can... You know I could teach you how to fish if you want? It isn't too hard," she offered. She still had yet to catch a meal-- and if her new clanmate was interested in fishing it would benefit both of them, wound't it? Killing two birds with one stone, as the saying goes.

Celestia pondered this for a moment. She was a little skeptical... Why would Viper offer her help? Then again... This immediately made her think of the situation with Vixen. She'd tried to help her without knowing exactly why. Was this a similar situation? She decided to ask just in case. "Why? What would you get out of teaching me? Time you'd spend teaching me, you could spend fishing for yourself."

"Because were both going to be living the same vicinity. I have enough time to make enemies with cats outside my clan-- I'd rather not be on bad terms with cats I might be seeing often. It sounds like it'd be a bit of a drag," the cream tabby said, flicking her tail a bit, "so I guess you could say this is my way of begin nice. You don't have to accept the offer. It won't bother me if you don't. But if you are interested in learning how to catch fish you might as well learn now-- while you have someone conveniently waiting to teach you, rather than flail about trying to learn by trial and error, like I did," she said, shrugging a bit, then looked back at the water, "besides... you not completely unbearable."

Celestia considered this for a moment... Would cats like her better with her mask down like she did right now? She supposed that made sense. That same fakeness drove Vixen to become a sort of... Frenemy. Maybe it was better to just be honest with other cats. Just maybe. The white she-cat looked at Viper. "Then... Yes. I accept your offer. I'd really, really appreciate it if you'd teach me how to fish."

Viper nodded, "Okay then-- I hope you don't mind getting your paws wet," she said with a slightly amused tone. When she had first started fishing she had loathed the idea of setting a paw in the water, yet she eventually got over. Which was probably more than obvious. "So, first thing's first then," she mumbled, "fishing starts out, well, rather dull really. You have to be able to spot a fish before you can even think of catching one. They aren't impossible to spot of you know what your looking for-- but they do have a tendency to go unnoticed. What you want to keep you eyes peeled for a thin dark shadow, or what looks like a gleaming silver strip," Viper explained. She took a few seconds to watch the water, before her trained eyes quickly caught on the darker shadow of a fish, "see," she flicked her tail in the general direction of the fish she had spotted, "like that shape over there"

Celestia was on the odder side. She didn't mind water, but didn't necessarily liked it. Viper gestured over to a direction towards the river. She looked over there... She didn't see anything. There was the water, shimmering with stripes of white and orange. Shadows in the water, cast by various things..... Though she supposed there was a slightly suspicious shadow that seemed to be wriggling around a bit. It could be just the shadow fluctuating due to the water's flowing surface. Or it could be a fish. She pointed her a single snow white paw. "Is that it?"

"Yeah, good eye," Viper complemented nonchalantly, "I'll catch this one, then I'll help you get your own," she said. Carefully, she wadded smoothly into the water (having one paw up and dry), keeping her gaze locked on the fish while she narrated what she was doing, "Now, when you get in the water you want to do so without making a lot of ripples, since making a lot of movement will alert the fish-- like how making a lot of noise in brush will alter land-dwelling prey. You also don't want to put the paw your going to swipe with into the water till your ready to attack, that way your not lifting it up and down through the water while your trying to make your catch" she then gentle slid her free paw under the surface of the water, waiting a second to make sure Celestia had absorbed the information she had just given before finishing her catch.

Celestia was unsure what to make of Viper's comment... Or was it a compliment? She wasn't too sure. Nonetheless... She watched as Viper explained everything she did as she moved in on the fish. Everything made sense, every explanation was logical. As the other cat moved through the water, she stopped before making the catch. It took a second before it clicked. 'She's waiting to make sure I got it...' She realized. "I've been listening." She meowed softly, as to not alert the fish to her presence and ruin the catch.
