(wow this is way overdue @drought)
It was with some exhaustion but satisfaction that Artemis slunk into the clearing before the tree that made Drought's den. She flicked her tail, looking up at the branches briefly. Some of her cuts still ached, but washing and a lot of licking wouldn't hurt in healing. From what basics she did know about injury treatment, infection was unlikely if she kept them clean. In any case, they were well worth it. The waste would cease in the river.
"Drought?" Artemis called. She wondered if he was home. "I have returned. I am here to report."

Choosing Artemis for the mission had been natural. Drought knew her well - trusted her, even, at least as much as a cat like himself could. He had no doubts that the white-and-grey female would do her best to find the source of the problem. But whether she could fix it was another matter entirely.
DeathClan's leader emerged from a dark hole nestled among the tree's gnarled roots. He looked a bit more stressed and worn down than usual; the grey hairs starting to emerge on his pelt only contributed to that appearance. But he relaxed upon recognizing the royal. She's finally back. I hope something was able to be done… we can't live with a poisoned river forever.
"Artemis. What's the news?"

Artemis blinked, straightening instinctively when she caught sight of him. Which was a rather strange reaction, now that she thought about it--she had practically raised him. She was probably one of few in DeathClan who had seen and known him personally when he was a kit. Seeing the graying to his pelt was almost surreal, a reminder of her own age and how it was going to weigh down on her too much someday.
Or they could just be from stress. Perhaps she was only overthinking things, as usual.
She dipped her head. "Drought. Ash, Twisted, and I found the source of the river's poison--it's from under a bridge in the Twolegplace. Barrels being poured, to be specific. We moved away the barrels to stop the flow, so it should be stopped by now."
Or rather, for now, she thought. There was no telling if the Twolegs would simply put the barrels rightside up again and continue their work.
"I can return there in a few days' time, if you'd like me to," she continued. "Just to make sure it's stopped for good."

The grey-and-white female's report was… better than he would have hoped. Not only had she found the source of the problem, but it sounded like she'd fixed it as well.
"I knew you were the right cat for the job. That's great - excellent, even. You don't need to go back unless you want to. I suspect we'll find out pretty quickly if the problem starts again."
Noticing her injuries for the first time, Drought blinked at Artemis. "It looks like you ran into some trouble, though. What was it? Not Twolegs or dogs, I hope…"

The slim she-cat gave a nod. "Thank you," she said calmly. "And that's alright. I'm just afraid the problem is too...reliant on what the Twolegs are going to do."
At the mention of her injuries, she noticeably straightened. Her wounds didn't hurt quite as much now, the pain having subsided to the point she could almost forget they were there. A good washing had cleaned them, but she knew she'd probably have to go back in the river again if only to make sure. One couldn't take chances with rats.
"Thankfully, neither of those," she replied. "But there were rats, and it was not a pleasant experience, to say the least. I don't think they were diseased enough to leave infection, however. We escaped fairly scot-free, all things considered."
