| ◀ | nothing burns like cold ❤ Quillfoot had chosen a warm day to venture outof camp. Most of the time he was a bit of a recluse, staying to himself for most hours of the day. He'd always been this way, but since his trip to Fireclan these tendancies had strengthened until he could be considered nothing but antisocial.
The mottled tabby lay with his scarred side down on a rock. He'd scraped away the freshest layer of snow and now draped himself, soaking up the warmth with utter content. It was these quiet times he enjoyed; though mostly at these times the loneliness he felt hit him most strongly.
"You'll just get your hopes up if you try," he scolded himself out loud, shifting his position to move off a small rock. "How pathetic can you get." |

Fallensnow padded quietly through IceClan territory, her ears twitching and alert. She was just out for a stroll, seeing as being copped up in the nursery for most of the day left her paws itching for a good run, but she figured she might as well snag a piece of prey to bring back to camp as long as she was out. The black-and-white Queen froze as the voice of another cat reach her ears, which swerved in the general direction of the sound. "You'll just get your hopes up if you try," she heard, tipping her head to the side as her bronze-hued eyes scanned the scenery, trying to pinpoint the source of the voice. The she-cat creeped cautiously forward, her soft paws blending into the snow, "how pathetic can you get?" Fallesnow's mind had wrapped around the words with interest, wondering if her and the speaker had as much as in common as she thought. Probably not, answered a pessimistic voice in the back of her mind, yet she pushed it away. Now close enough to pick up a scent, the she-cat called out softly, her voice laced with curiosity, "Hello?"

fallensnow | ◀ | nothing burns like cold ❤ Quillfoot froze at the sudden voice. It had been completely unexpected, which spoke volumes about how much he'd actually been paying attention. Scolding himself internally, he pushed himself to his paws and shook the loose snow from his bare side. He turned to face his company quickly, forgetting for a moment that he was horribly scarred, and likely to frighten whoever it was. "I'm sorry I didn't notice you!" He exclaimed quickly, hoping the words would serve as a greeting and an apology.
When he recognized her as a queen, just because of the milk scent on her, he bowed his head in embarrassment. "I'm terribly sorry, was I in the way?"

Fallensnow's eyes widened as she looked over the other cat, caught off guard by the scars that adorned him. It only took her a heartbeat to look past that though, and she reminded herself that she had no right to judge anyone by how they looked. Her gaze softened at the tom's apologies, and she shook her head "no" in reply to his question. "I was just stretching my legs when I overheard you talking," the Queen admitted, her voice taking on its usual soft and soothing tone, a twinge of her motherly instinct kicking in as she tried to show the mottled tabby that there was nothing for him to be embarrassed about. If anything I should be embarrassed I was eavesdropping, she added silently in her head, though she didn't know if her overhearing really counted as eavesdropping. "I'm Fallensnow, by the way," she introduced, almost letting the thought of doing so slip her mind.

He unsconsciously seated himself with the burned half of his body facing away from the she-cat, though to him it hadn't appeared as if she'd had any great outward reaction. That was a rare commodity. "Oh, I..." Now he was embarrassed all over again from being caught talking to himself like a possessed lunatic. "Sorry you had to hear that, I didn't realize I wasn't alone."
Smiling somewhat sheepishly, the warrior raised his head so he could examine the queen more closely. "Fallensnow? That's a lovely name," he remarked truthfully, his smile widening slightly. "Much better than Quillfoot anyway. It's nice to meet you."

"There's no need to apologize," the black-and-white Queen mewled gently, "I'll admit to not knowing the context of what you were talking about very well, but I've heard it's better to talk about your emotions rather than keep them contained." Hypocrite! a voice in the back of her head jeered, but she shook this thought away as well. "And it's a pleasure to meet you as well," Fallensnow said, warmth spreading throughout her at the compliment. She dipped her head in a bashful thanks. She would've argued about how Quillfoot was an equally wonderful name, but couldn't seem to grasp to the words to describe it. Unique? Maybe? it seemed too plain a word though, and all the she-cat could piece together was that it rolled off the tongue very well.

tag here | ◀ | nothing burns like cold ❤ The tabby chuckled, his mouth forming an amused smile. "True. But I think you're usually supposed to talk about them with other people, rather than just yourself." Of course that was the hard part. He was a coward for avoiding it, but at the same time, it was a small relief. "I suppose I'll just resign myself to being considered mentally unstable. 'Oh look, it's Quillfoot, the crazy tom who talks to himself'. That's what they'll say." The words he spoke rang with brutal honesty. He meant every word he said, though the smile was still on his face. It was more self-deprecating now.
"And you as well, my queen." He answered, dropping his head slightly in a slightly teasing show of respect. "What brings you out here?"

"Nothing much," Fallensnow answered, her tone lighthearted, "I just thought a change of scenery might be nice while I have some free time-- I adore spending time with the kits, but being cooped up in camp for the majority of the day does leave one yearning for a little sunlight," she explained. She had always found it strange to think that she hadn't wanted to be a mother when she was younger, and couldn't imagine not being a Queen now. She had never really been sure of herself or her abilities, but being a mother was so natural to her that she could feel fully confident when making decisions. If only I was always like that, she thought, staring to get uncomfortable with talking about herself, and decided to take a few steps back on the conversation. "Oh, and, if you ever feel the need to speak to someone other than yourself I've always got an open ear," the black-and-white she-cat added softly, giving her right ear a twitch for emphasis.

tag here | ◀ | nothing burns like cold ❤ "Ah, now that, I can understand," Quillfoot empathized with a chuckle. He could imagine that life was a queen would be dearly stressful on the poor she-cat's both mind and body. It was completely understandable that they would want some peace now and then. He was simply glad he wasn't a queen himself.
He noticed Fallensnow's rapid retraction from the conversation and shifted in discomfort. He'd probably said something to make her comfortable, perhaps it was his crazy outburst before. "I am grateful for the offer." Quillfoot acknowledged the words with a slow nod, though he doubted he'd take her up on it. It wasn't in his nature to pile his troubles onto others, particular when this queen had her own responsibilities. "You know, the same offer stands for you as well."

"Thanks, but I really doubt I'd have anything worth bringing up," the black-and-white she-cat said with a small, somewhat void smile, "my life isn't exactly a eventful one; my biggest worries probably consists of problematic kits and making sure I get back to my nest at a decent time," Fallensnow mused with a dismissive flick of her tail, "nothing worth going on about." And to certain extent she was telling the truth. It's not like things didn't occasionally get hectic in the nursery, especially when a large litter was born, but otherwise it was a relatively calm place-- the hardest thing she'd have to deal with was watching her children grow up, well, that and finding some time for herself.

tag here | ◀ | nothing burns like cold ❤ "Well, I think that's subjective," Quillfoot purred in reply, flicking his tail calmly. "You could probably talk about the mating rituals of mice and I'd still find it easily." Then realising he might have stepped a line and been a little too crude, particularly with a queen, he panicked and ducked his head in embarrassment. "That is to say, I surely wouldn't mind listening to anything on your mind. What are friends for?" Huffing a bashful sigh the tom rolled his eyes, annoyed with himself once again. He was too busy screwing up, he didn't even have time to actually comfort Fallensnow. It was a pain, and he hated it. "I don't think I could do what you do. Sometimes I feel like nothing more than a kit myself."
