I love VWW. I love its members. All of them. Xatters, TC'ers, Hetalia Chatters (there's a throwback for the oldies). The staff, the non-staff. The old members, the new ones. The elders, the kits. I really do love you guys. But, I do have a major problem with you guys. Don't get afraid or tense up, and don't act all shocked. Yes, much like my relationship with every other human being, I have found something about all of you that has gotten under my skin and makes me want to die just a little bit (not really, that is an exaggeration, please do not assume I actually want to die from your actions).
That is, y'all are some 'hypocrites' when it comes to plots. Iceclan, literally all of Iceclan, you guys get to be excluded from this. Unless you have cats in other Clans or a wolf. Then, keep reading, and know why.
Around the start of this lovely new year, Jaimie made a thread asking EVERYONE what they wanted to see on VWW for the year. I think almost every single reply on every single page had some variation of "more plots!". And so we, the staff, began brainstorming. Robinstar and crew made an avalanche for Iceclan (which is going hella well, good job you guys). When I saw the activity of that plot, I was pumped. Iceclan, at that time, was not as active as my own Clan. So when I got the idea for a plot, I went "since Treeclan is SO active, I bet they'd make this plot mega cool!"
Boy, I was trenta wrong.
And to an extent, I get it. Unlike Iceclan's plot, the plot Treeclan is going through is not Clan-wide. Not every kit and his grandma gets to be involved directly, or in the most thrilling way. However, I also announced in the current plot thread that I already have more plots in mind for the upcoming months! And so I figured there'd be some complaints or people who wouldn't be that excited, but I did expect some hurrahs and participation and a flood of applications. I mean, I was offering two deaths in some pretty gnarly ways. I expected to go to bed that night, and come on VWW the next day to be overwhelmed with applications and posts of excitement. I was disappointed to an extreme level.
I think in the span of four days I got about 5 applications. I'm allowing five people to go on the plot's biggest point. That meant that everyone, at that moment, had to be automatically accepted. And I was minied. Why? Because, despite a select few, most of the applicants weren't even active! One person who applied to die, after I specifically stated not to apply just to get rid of an inactive character, since we want more active spirits to make the spirit board cool and active. hadn't been online before that application (or at least, hadn't RP'ed) in almost a whole year. Another person was more active than that, but definitely not /active/. Only a few of the people who applied seems genuinely excited and willing to join the plot not out of boredom or a reason to be active (if you don't find Treeclan fun, that's fine. But don't try to steal a fun spot in a plot just so you can have a few days of fun) and I was happy about those guys, and they're DEFINITELY getting accepted into the main points of the plot.
For about a week I went "OK, Treeclan, let's step up", since Iceclan's plot was going well...but then I looked at Fireclan. Fireclan, in case you did not know, is currently going through its own small plot that branches off from the Iceclan avalanche much like my own plot. Fireclan's plot is that there is flooding and, much like my own plot, there are special patrols going out to assess this! Now, again, this isn't a plot where EVERYONE can get involved, but still. I saw it and went "Alright, let's see if this one is working". And oh look, it wasn't. Even checking now, that plot isn't filling up, either.
So my question is, what the HELL do you guys want from us? You all ask for more plots, more fun. And we provide. The only Clan without a plot right now is Rockclan, and let me tell you, the plot we have in mind for Rockclan is probably the biggest god forsaken plot this site has ever seen, seriously. I'm jealous of it. But even still, Rockclan isn't the most active Clan. Treeclan is (or, was) the most active Clan at the the moment. We've had 40-50 active people (active being counted as logging on once in the past 2 weeks) for over a month and a half. And that doesn't count kits.
Is it because the plots in Tree and Fire aren't for literally everyone? Becuase honestly, we as the staff hate those plots in general. Not because we hate fun, but it's so, incredibly hard to moderate and keep up with that in the end it usually turns from fun into chaos into us shutting things down ASAP so people stop spamming and power playing so we don't give half the site a warning bar. And even then, why not at least APPLY to join a plot? Does EVERYONE see these somewhat limited plots and go "Oh, well, I may not get accepted so I won't apply". Because for my plot in Treeclan I literally only have nine applications. I only have to exclude 4 people from this part of the plot. I've also said that literally everyone but kit, who can't leave camp, get to pretend that there are two-legs and dogs near Iceclan and that things are tense and that there will be even more special patrols in the next week and nobody is even posting in the threads. I made a Clan meeting thread to rally people for it. Only a handful showed up. Not even all of the applicants posted. I had to post on an alternate account just to get the interest of some other people, which actually kind of worked. To those that ARE posting and ARE applying, thank you. You're the ONLY thing keeping at least the Treeclan plot up, because honestly I'm ready to shut the plot down at this point and just cancel the one I had in mind.
And, just in case anyone thinks this is just me venting about this one failed plot, trust me, it isn't. Ever since I was Waspwing, which was almost four years ago, I've been trying to make plots for Treeclan. Some, a few, have gone successfully. The fire, for example, was a success. But oh look, that was a Clan-wide plot. Guys, not every plot can involve everyone. I just can't make every plot involve everyone. We can't have a devastating fire or an avalanche or a deadly disease come along every month in the Clans. Even wars don't involve EVERYONE because you don't have every single warrior/apprentice fighting in battles and kits and elders can't anyway. Some things just aren't even realistic. So if you don't want to join a plot because it can't involve everyone, rethink that. Plots that involve the entire Clan come around (maybe) once a year. Plots involving the entire site are even less common. Because those are big, require a ton of planning, and again, they're so hard to moderate and keep track of and usually end up failing halfway through that the staff just DO NOT like making them.
At the end of the day, plots fall on EVERYONE's shoulders. Big plots, like wars and avalanches, require the staff to make them, yes. But they also require YOU GUYS, the people who BEG AND WHINE AND COMPLAIN ABOUT WANTING THEM, need to participate. And as for small plots, don't just expect us, the staff, to make them. If you want to fight a fox, ask your Leader. Chances are, they'll say yes. We want you guys to have fun. If you want to fall in a river and almost drown and get saved by someone from another Clan who just so happens to see you, ask! Things like these don't need to be made by staff specifically. Small, personal plots can ALWAYS be requested for to the staff, and usually we say yes. Unless your plot involves death, we usually say yes. Technically it is against the Warrior Code to switch Clans, and so REALISTICALLY it'd rarely happen. But, in the past several months, I've allowed a handful of people to leave Treeclan for Iceclan or Fireclan or whatever so that they can have fun here on VWW.
I love you guys. You are a family to me. And so as my family, please keep in mind that even though I love you, I am also not afraid to "throw shade" and complain about y'all to your faces. Because honestly, I think sometimes that's EXACTLY what people need.
If you have a problem with this post, sorry. Please don't take personal offense from it. this post is not targeted at any one member, so much as it is the entire population (except Iceclan who is killin' it with their plot). If you guys are going to complain to us about something or ask us for something, expect us to complain or ask back when y'all screw up or something.
OK thanks bye.
