Thistlefang had decided to take over another apprentice's training. This one was close to warriorhood, though, so he wouldn't have to do much. Reaching the den, he poked his head inside. "Training today, Swanpaw. Get up." He backed out and headed for the exit to wait.

Swanpaw Swanpaw woke up suddenly, hearing a new voice, Th.. this must be Thistlefang? I hope he likes me... she thought at first and opened her eyes. "C-coming..." she said softly, lowering her head as she walked out of the den.

Thistlefang watched Swanpaw walk out of the den. Her head was lowered, and just by that he could tell that she would be a little timid. He took a deep breath, hoping he had the patience to deal with that. He nodded in greeting when she got closer. "First, tell me what you already know. We can go off of there."

Swanpaw Swanpaw blinked a few times. "W-well... I.. kinda know the territory well.." she sighed, "But.. not much.. else.." The feline thought, I don't know much.. no one can guess how many moons I am, anyway..

|| sure, sounds good. ||
"Okay. Let's be on our way, then." He began padding off, not caring if Swanpaw couldn't keep up. He stopped at a small clearing and sniffed the air. 'Songbird.' "Do you smell anything?"

Swanpaw Swanpaw blinked and tried following as fast as she could go, trailing off by at least a few tail lengths. Smell... she sniffed around, and gulped, "P-prey... Bird.. maybe? Something.. feathery.." she murmured.

"Mhm." He sniffed the air again, sensing it a few tail-lengths away to their right. "Try to catch it." He didn't ask if she knew how. He just wanted to see if she could catch it by instinct.

Swanpaw Swanpaw looked at her mentor in disbelief, but something about how he told her to catch it didn't make her want to question it. She sniffed around, glancing to see if Thistlefang was watching, before moving around a bit, slowly, trying to follow where the stronger scent was. She grew almost excited as she spotted the bird, it looked different than the ones on the kill pile. Swanpaw inched ever so slowly, trying to be quiet, which wasn't too hard for her small body and quiet-like nature. But she didn't know what to do once she got close enough. The black and white feline bunched up and leaped forward, missing the bird by several inches before just watching it fly away. She didn't want to turn around to look at her mentor after trying to catch her first prey.

Thistlefang watched his apprentice creep closer and closer, pleased with how quiet she was being. He froze once she was close enough, pelt prickling with anticipation.
He sighed when the bird fluttered away. He padded up to her, seeing that she must've been too embarrassed to return. "That's okay. Try again. Get as close as you can before leaping." He sniffed the air, trying to see if anything else was around. "For birds, it's easiest to aim for the wing. Then they'll struggle to fly, and you can kill them from there. Now go out and try to catch something else."

Swanpaw Swanpaw blinked a few time as Thistlefang came up to her. The apprentice sniffed around, and walked around again, softly. She scented something familiar again, like something.. brownish on the fresh kill pile. Squirrel maybe?... she thought, and followed her nose around until she spotted fur. Th-that's a squirrel? Swanpaw did the same technique as before, slowly and softly going to the squirrel. It.. can't fly away.. what can it do?... Climb trees... she thought, knowing herself, she can't climb. The feline shook the thoughts from her head and continued, more quickly. She was close, then she pounced at it, focused, but hesitated after feeling it under her paws. She finally bit into it around the neck, almost as if taking a bite out of it. After all the mess, she started breathing quickly in excitement, bringing the very small squirrel to her mentor, not knowing how to act any longer.

Thistlefang held his breath as he watched her, a wide grin settling on his face when she leaped. A very faint purr rumbled in his throat when she dropped the squirrel. "Nice catch. It looks like you're good at staying silent. Remember that, and use it to your advantage." He said, wondering how she was feeling. Was that her first catch?' "I think you've got it down. Go out to hunt when we're not training and try to improve your skills." He stood up and started walking ahead. He glanced back to see if Swanpaw was following.
"Battle training next. We'll go near FireClan since there's more empty clearings there."

Swanpaw Swanpaw stared at the squirrel for a while, then looked up, noticing he was talking. I should probably try often... she thought, putting some leaves around the squirrel, before seeing him walk away. The apprentice got up and quickly followed, blinking at his words. "FireClan?.." she whispered, then hoped he didn't hear her. Battle training.. near FireClan..

Fortunately for him, Thistlefang had pretty good hearing. He glanced back again. "Yeah, FireClan. Is that a problem?" 'Maybe she just likes to repeat things.' That could be it.
He took a deep breath as they approached the border, taking in the familiar FireClan scent. He hoped that none of his kits- or grandkits- would spot him. 'Cloudskip had quite a lot of kits, didn't she? Then there's Flamewhisper...' It seemed like he knew a lot more FireClanners than he did TreeClanners. Oh well.
He turned and faced the apprentice once they stepped into a dusty clearing. "Pretend I'm a RockClan intruder. How would you attack?"

Swanpaw Swanpaw followed, but her breath was tight as she heard him, "FireClan? Uh... no.. no, nothing," she mumbled, blinking a few times. Would my parents be about?.. she thought, then shook her thought away, trying to wory more about battling. The she-cat was more worried as he basically just told her to attack without any lessons or talking first, but then she paused, I.. I don't know if he wants it verbally?.. The apprentice tried her luck, "I.. I would.. sneak.. up on him? M-maybe attack from behind?.."

He flicked an ear at her answer. "Yes. Though I'd rather you show me it than explain." He braced himself and crouched down. He wasn't expecting a verbal answer, though didn't get on Swanpaw for it. He was afraid that she'd freak out or something if he said she did something wrong.
