It was a bright autumn morning. The season had just barely begun to change and Skykit was faintly aware of the slight chill in the air.
The apprentice-aged kit leapt to his paws, stretching out his long limbs until his muscles shook with the strain. Now that he had released the tension that sleep had given him, he bounded out into the camp, looking around for today's challenge.
The kit had truly changed in the past few moons. He had begun his life as an unapologetic, outgoing kit, but he had settled into a shy, anxious little fluff of a thing. He kept to himself, beginning to stalk an autumn leaf.

Sunkit had woken to the day, and padded outside into the autumn open.
She was feeling beautifully content. She was also feeling bored though, so she decided to see if she could find another fellow kitten to keep company.
Her eyes settled on the luxurious silver pelt of Skykit and she padded over to him, blinking her dark blue eyes. Her golden and russet and white pelt was blending in with the orange and red of the camp.

Skykit paused with the mauling of the poor leaf, looking over at the foreign kit. He stood up straight, his blue eyes big and wide, shy like he always was around strangers.
His white paws shuffled in the dust, kicking up a small storm of earth. It took him a lot of courage to make his large round eyes to meet Sunkit's and he swallowed.
"Hi..." his voice was quiet.

Sunkit blinked again at Skykit. "Hiya." She mewed. "I'm Sunkit."
She sat down gently next to the pretty tom-kit, and twitched her tail reassuringly.

The other kit seemed kind enough, so the anxious tom-kit forced himself to relax. He stopped shuffling his paws and looked over at Sunkit again.
"Skykit," his voice was still small and quiet.

Sunkit smiled gently, using all her restraint not to leap about and be her usual self. She would surly scare the kit if she did.
"Nice day, huh. My pelt blends in so well, no one can see me!" She purred, walking over to an orange and yellow shaded shrub and standing in front of it, the only thing showing was the white patches and her sparkly dark blue eyes.
Sunkit froze as a leaf flitted past her nose, and she sprang at it, shredding it with her claws. She grabbed it in her mouth and took it to Skykit. "I'm gonna be the best hunter, you see." She meowed, bushing her fur out proudly. "What do you want to be? Best fighter? Or leader? I wanna be deputy!" She yowled, her personality shining through and she leaped around, being careful to stay clear of Skykit. She didn't want to frighten him, but she was afraid she already had.

The excitement and outgoingness of the other kit slightly unsettled him, but Skykit forced himself to sit still and smiled.
He saw a point in the kit's words, realising that she almost blended in perfectly with the autumn scenery. The lithe tom's silver pelt, however, stood out like a sore thumb against the orange leaves.
"You're right," he agreed.
He watched as Sunkit leapt around and he switched between his paws, his big ears flicking like satellite dishes. At her next words, his big, baby-blue eyes followed the she-kit as she shredded a leaf, curious. After Sunkit's question, he gave a slight smile, feeling himself warm up to the orange kit.
"I'll be happy just being a warrior," he purred.

Sunkit was glad the other kitten hadn't darted like most did if she couldn't control herself, and she purred at his replys. Her restless body shifting every few seconds. Her tail was flicking, and she eyes it for a bit before leaping at it and trying to grab the long plumy tail in her jaws. She did and grabbed in her hind paws, batting it with her forepaws.
"Okay, well, then when I am leader, I'll make you deputy. Then you will have to agree because I am so super persuasive and amazing, and everyone will want to be my deputy." She grinned, thinking that Skystar sounded pretty cool.
"Sunstar and then Skystar. Cool!" She meowed excitedly, rubbing her flank alongside Skykits before remembering he was shy and pulled away. "Oops, sorry..." She murmured, ears flattened and standing with her head bowed apologeticly.

Slightly taken aback when the energetic kit started attacking her own tails, Skykit stepped away. He listened to her next words, his ears flickering.
Leader? Deputy?
The words were a little terrifying to him, the kit too afraid to take upon any more responsibility than the average warrior. But he trusted the orange kit and nodded at her slightly egotistic words.
"Okay." Skystar was good enough a name for him. After Sunkit touched her flank to his, he almost flinched away but at her apology, he shook his head.
"No, no, that's fine."

Sunkit sat down heavily, saddened by Skykit reaction. He hadn't flinched, but she saw in his eyes, the alarm. "Who am I kidding... I wont be leader." She muttered, lashing her tail. She flopped down and layed her head on her white paws, looking at the shredded leaf and apologizing to it, too.

There was one thing that defeated the shyness of Skykit - the personality trait that hated seeing others sad. He instantly leapt forward, his anxiety forgotten.
"No! No! No! Don't be sad! Be happy!" he urged, trying to be as energetic as Sunkit was moments before. "Of course you can be leader! And I'll be your deputy, remember!"

Sunkit turned her head to Skykit, surprised. "Whoa, where have you been hiding that energy?!" She meowed, touched by the kittens kindness. She was feeling very fondly towards him at the moment, and very teary. She wanted to cry happy tears.
"Yeah," She whispered. "My deputy. Though, you never know, you may be leader first!" She purred, hesitantly touching her nose to his shoulder affectionately.
Sunkit's heart flutters a bit when he spoke, and she drew a paw up to bat at it to tell it to stop. It was weird. And it made her want to leap after it.

Skykit gave a smile. "I don't know. I just really don't like seeing other cats sad," he admitted.
Yes, he'd be her deputy, and she'd be the leader. As Sunkit spoke, he gave a laugh. Leader? Probably not. But a kit could dream.
"Okay. That's a promise then," he purred. This time, when the ginger kit touched his shoulder, he didn't flinch away.
The apprentice-aged kit smiled again. "I suppose you're due for your apprentice ceremony too?" he guessed.

Sunkit purred. "Yeah, I am. Are you? That would be so cool we could both be apprentices and then warriors at the same time!" She got up and strutted around Skykit, swishing her plumy gold and russet tail.
She was so happy that Skykit didn't flinch, she wanted to yowl it out to the world! She didn't though. "Do you have anyone in mind you want as a mentor?" she asked, tipping her head to the side.
