Redpaw skipped out of the apprentices den, freshly groomed and ready for a wonderful day out with his mother! We haven't hung out in forever, he thought cheerily, excited about the present rather than bummed about the past. "Mother, dear!" he called out loudly, sniffing around for Petalfur 's familiar scent. He had wanted to treat the warrior out for a pleasant walk with her perfect son. Of course, Redpaw, being Redpaw, hadn't had the forethought to ask her beforehand. Not that he would admit to this being a folly.

For several months, Petalfur had lacked the energy to do really anything, She had, of course, performed her duty, though with none of the emotion it had ever previously held. Perhaps it was a mild midlife crisis, or perhaps it was simply loneliness or boredom, but her enthusiasm and curiosity about all things as had felt passionate about had seemed meaningless. Petalfur stretched one claw out from her paw, the other, and another, gazing blandly at her toes from her passive crouch on a rock. There was a stray drop of blood there in the groove, probably from the last hunting trip she had taken the previous night, and she licked at it absentmindedly. A familiar voice perked Petalfur's senses suddenly and she turned her head in the direction, The voice was familiar, and being downwind, she could just make out her son's. "Over here!" She called, mustering all the compassion she could for the only kit of hers that still spoke to her. Petal's tail twitched with uncertainty, and she sat up respectfully to greet Redpaw.

Redpaw's ears perked up as he heard his mother's voice and he quickly trotted over to her. "Mornin'," he purred, nuzzling her shoulder. It seemed as if had moons since he'd seen her--in fact it probably had. He secretly checked her over, wondering if she had suffered any injuries when IceClan had been hit with the avalanche. Redpaw had been pretty inactive while IceClan was living in the barn, spending most of his days sitting around and brooding about the fact that he wouldn't be able to sleep in his own nest. "You busy today? I was thinking we could tour around the territory, get a feel for it again," he mewed, gesturing with his tail towards the entrance with his trademark toothy grin, "plus I wanna see if we can catch some trespassers!" He narrowed his eyes excitedly, thinking of how Fallenstar had mentioned there had being strangers stealing food from IceClan territory.

The former queen felt ancient, seeing her son trotting up to her with such enthusiasm, and she couldn't suppress a genuine smile as he nuzzled her shoulder, giving him a quick lick on the head in return. Petalfur had just sort of... gone with everything following the avalanche and the stay in the barn, riding the tide of change with minimal worry. She had not been harmed thankfully, though she felt horribly old when she noticed Redpaw give her a once-over for injury. Though, aside from her embarrassment, she felt her heart warm in light of her son's compassion. "I'd like that," Petalfur responded, shocked by how her typical determined, kind voice had returned. Her eyes took a sweep around at the treeline seen just over the walls of camp, and the steep cliffs that made up two sides of the camp. It had been a while since she had felt enthusiasm about enjoying the territory, and she could feel the energy coursing up through the rocks and into her bones. However, at mention of intruders, her gaze turned sharply to Redpaw, and a look of concern and discipline crossed her eyes. "I hope you're not trying to get yourself into trouble?"

(Sorry this took forever! I'm dealing with some school things and am trying to prioritize plot/group threads first. My project is due this upcoming Thursday, so I should be responding at faster pace by then :>) Redpaw pouted, blinking at his mother in an innocent matter. "Of course not, mother!" his grin slipped back on his face, returning to it's usual confident smirk, "I just want to make sure our territory is safe! Fallenstar said that there could be intruders mulling about, don't you think it would be better if we caught them before they could do any harm?" he nodded an agreement to his own words, "we'd be doing a great service to our clan! Plus I have so much experience handling ne'er do wells--I'm the best tom for the job!" the ginger apprenticed puffed himself up importantly. He had spent his moons in the nursery capturing and interrogating bugs, plus he had thought up countless stories of his possible heroisms. It seemed fitting, in his mind, that he would be the one to bring the hooligans that were traipsing all over IceClan territory to justice.

She was doubtful, of course, that her son was not itching for the opportunity to face an opponent, though she was even more so that they would actually stumble across an aged intruder. So, after long, slow breath, Petalfur, though somewhat reluctantly, nodded her head to Redpaw. "Alright," she assured him, rising to her paws and shaking her muscles awake. The action put several more paw-lengths on her height, a certain attribute of her Bengal DNA, and the warrior couldn't help but feel proud looking down at her brave son. "Lead the way."
No worries! Totally fine! ✿

Redpaw nodded, bouncing towards the entrance. He was getting closer and closer to becoming a warrior, but he still had yet to change very much from the way he was as an apprentice--kitten, even. He was still as energetic and impulsive as he was in his nursery days, although he had gotten a bit clever, and defiantly bigger. He wasn't yet as tall as his mother, although he was confident he would get to be at some point; Redpaw know he didn't look very much like either of his parents, but he always liked to believed that he gained more attributes from his mother. "So, anything new?" the young tom mewed as he slipped through the camp entrance, lifting his muzzle up and enjoying the fresh, faintly chilly breeze against his face.

Petalfur had almost forgotten what Ashfrost was like. She remembered how much she had cared about him, how confused she was every time he left, but for the life of her, she could not remember him as he was without doubting she wasn't implementing bias. She didn't consider herself old or anything, though she had begun to accept her relationship with Ash had been nothing more than a brisk and sudden bought of Young Love. Quick to dismiss any thought of him, she had swept her uncertainty under the rug hastily. What was new? "Not much. Not really anything," Petal admitted, following her son though the camp entrance. She had never been well versed in the art of small talk. "How about you? How are you?"
