mistykit was a curious specimen. unlike the majority of his clanmates, his coat was dark, ridiculously so against the snow. it would never serve as camouflage, which was a shame, since he didn't exactly like being in the centre of attention either. one might describe him as a solid grey, but they would be wrong. if you looked closely enough, what appeared to be a solid expanse of grey was marred by darker splashes, of the same colour, but splashes nonetheless.
right now, mistykit's fur was wet, uncomfortably so. he wasn't as soaked as he had been a few minutes ago, but the cold climate of iceclan's territory didn't help things. as a matter of fact, his fur was beginning to clump together, giving him the appearance of a dark grey hedgehog. a very annoyed, and very wet, dark grey hedgehog. that was a pretty good description of how he looked at that moment. "i hate water," he sulked. he pouted before he added thoughtfully, "and snow. i hate ice too."

Laurelpaw walked into the appentices den with the intent to start cleaning it out, but her attention upon entering was distracted by another sulking cat. This cat would pop out in the snow. That was the first thing Laurelpaw thougt, then she relised she probably would more. She had a black pelt with a red undercoat. What she had learned that that ment here was that she was black so she popped out darker in the snow, but she was red so she popped out brighter against the few plants a black cat would be able to camaflauge in. It was a rather wet day, and Laurelpaw would have thought nothing of a normal wet cat, but this one was sad.
Overhearing what the cat said, she approached. "Now surely you can't mean that." she said as she sat near the other cat. "I can hate snow and ice because I'm not from around here, but you? You're and Iceclanner. How can you hate ice?" she teased the Iceclan cats, hoping this cat not to be offended.

he raised his head, and sat up straight. the she-cat didn't look like a kit - if she was, she was a very big one. she must be an apprentice, he decided. at her words, he frowned a little, carefully considering his next words. "how do you know i'm an iceclanner?" mistykit queried with a quirk of his brow. "i could be, for all you know. i don't look like an iceclanner, right? so that means i'm a rogue!" he narrowed his eyes, before his face relaxed into a cheeky smile. "but i'm not. did i at least get you a little bit? name's mistykit, by the way." he flopped back on his haunches, waiting for an answer.

Laurelpaw shook her head and acted atleast a little surprised for the kit's sake, but even as a little kitten she could smell the differance between rouge, clan cat, and kittypet easily. "Well how do you know I'm not a rouge?" she asked, seeing if she could get a reaction of some sort out of Mistykit.

mistykit frowned a little, raising a paw to his face, almost to his ears. he lowered his paw a little, but it was still hovering over the ground. at last, he put it down, not firmly, but with a sort of finality resonating in the gleam of his blue eyes. "i don't," he admitted, with a small, thoughtfully. "you don't smell like a rogue though. well, not really..." he trailed off, hoping that his words, or, rather, lack of them, would not offend the she-cat. "anyway, you smell like an iceclanner. so what's your name?"

"Yep, I'm an Iceclanner." she responded, which was only a half lie. Born an Iceclanner but raised as a rouge then back to being an Iceclanner was hard to explain. "I'm Laurelpaw." she smiled. "Who are your parents then?"

he started to relax a little, letting a smile dance on his face. "my mum's dappledleaf," he said in an oddly proud voice. he hadn't really gotten to know her well, what with her constantly needing to take care of her other kits - his siblings - but he had always thought that having to care for so many mewling kits was dozens of times harder than being a warrior of iceclan. "i don't know who my dad is though," he said with a little shrug, trying not to show how much this upset, and, well, irked him. "probably an iceclanner, though. or i'd be halfclan. i guess it's better that i don't know. otherwise, who knows where my loyalties might lie."

Laurelpaw nodded. "I get that. I'm glad both my parents were Iceclanners." she said. It was true. If both her parents hadn't been Iceclanners she would have never joined in the first place. "Blood runs thicker than water, but love is thicker than blood." she recited the first part of her dad's favorite quotation under her breath. She knew her brother got that, but she didn't. For her, family was the best bet. "Most cats don't know their dads I don't think." she said, now loud enough for Mistykit to hear.

"i s'pose," mistykit agreed, surveying his surroundings. out of all those kits, how many of them knew who their father was? was it wrong that so few other she-cats got the opportunity to mther children? was it wrong that so many cats would never know where half of them came from? the thought saddened him, and the sadness spread to his face, rimming his eyes and pulling down his mouth. he blinked, and his blue eyeswere bright again. "tell me a story?" he asked hopefully. "any story. it doesn't have to be true."

"Ok," Laurelpaw said, deciding to tell a happy one from her past, as that would truly help her too st times. "Once there was a small kitten, let's call her Robin, and her father, Shadow, living on their own outside the clan." she started. She didn't k know why she had picked her old best friend's name in place of her own, but the name came naturally. "One day, Robin decided to run away. She got lost and didn't know where she was going, but she kept running. She knew her father could track her, and was mad at him and didn't want to be tracked. Robin didn't have many nice friends, so she didn't trust many other cats. When she came upon another cat, her imeadoat reaction was harsh. But the cat responded kindly. Robin didn't know why, she had never seen such behavior before. It would be like... two clans at war just taking a brake to play moss ball." She grinned, and paused as she tried to remember exsactly what happened next.

mistykit blinked, surprised how fast laurelpaw had come up with a story. "why was robin mad at her dad?" he wondered aloud, eyes flicking to the now cloudless sky. "and why didn't she have any friends?" he didn't have any himself, unless you counted laurelpaw to be one. and, even then, no friends his own age. "imagine if they did!" mistykit laughed. "robinstar playing mossball with all the other leaders..."

Laurelpaw shrugged. "He was a strict dad and she lived in an area where cats didn't much trust each other. At all. " she responded then giggled. "I guess that would be kinds funny." then she got her thoughts back in order and got back in track. "So, Robin went with this other cat and they started playing games with each other. It was Robins first time playing a game, but she found it to be fun." Laurelpaw decided to adjust the ending a little. "She stayed with this other cat until she wasn't mad at her father and got directions to get back to him."
