Laurelpaw awoke and held back a yelp. She was used to nightmares, but also commonly just slept through them. Shaking her head she bid her lip, determined to erase the smug look on that fox's face as she made her way through the camp, glad for the freash air when she made it out. She loved it at night, when it was quiet enough to hear nothing but her paws crunching through the snow. Noticing that, she recognized another set of footsteps and sniffed the air, quickly recognizing the scent of fox. And just when she had started to forget the dream to. She would have laughed at the irony, but her eyes were still wide with fear from the dream. It took her a moment to even get into a position to be ready to fight it. She sniffed the air quickly. There was only one, thank Cloudclan, but that didn't help that she was out alone at night facing a fox. Her eyes narrowed as she scanned the area, her breath speeding up slightly as she laid eyes on the fox. When her mind started acctually working, she decided to try to escape before the fox noticed her, but she had no such luck as she saw the creature's gaze lock on to her. She knew better than to think she could outrun it to. The glint in its eyes... it was hungry. And that meant it wouldn't allow a meal to escape. While she was sure she could fight, she didn't want to wake the cats in the still-nearby camp, as silly as that may have seemed later. She slowly backed away in a defensive crouch.

There was no reason for Ivy to be out so late. None, whatsoever. But lately, she hadn't been able to sleep. There were many reasons for that, she had decided- the new (or rather, old) territory and camp, and her own questioning of her morals and attitude kept her restless. Besides, at night, it was quieter. Less chance of running into somebody who'd likely end up just bothering her.
She was on the way back to camp, though, when she picked up a scent that stood out against the familiar ones of her clanmates and the territory itself. The trail- a fresh trail- of a fox. It was a bit of a way from her current position, so she would have been able to keep walking, but then she noticed the scent of a cat, intertwined with that of the fox. Somebody was tracking it. Alone. At night.
Not the best plan. Other than the fact that they were clanmates, though, it shouldn't have mattered to Ivy. She didn't need to follow them. She didn't even know the cat. And yet, Ivy found herself following anyway, out of some sort of moral code. Too much time around Rivershade- her stupid morality was rubbing off on Ivy. The longer she followed the trail, the faster she ran, only stopping when she actually spotted the cat, slowly backing away from- oh. She hadn't quite expected it to be so large. Or stinky- but more importantly, large. For once, Ivy found herself unsure of what to do. "Uh-" she said quietly, if only to get the other apprentice's attention. "I don't suppose you've ever fought a fox before, have you?" Escape seemed unlikely- the fox's eyes seemed to be following them both too closely, and it was likely faster then they were. Ivy lowered herself into a battle stance, watching it carefully to figure out when it would attack.

Laurelpaw spotted another cat and gave a small nod, not turning from the fox. "A long time ago, yes." she responded truthfully. She had been a kit, it was before she had joined the clans, but she had fought one. She had no clue how you were acctually supposed to to get the most damage done without getting hurt. Her attention turned fully to the fox when it started to move, and she prepared herself for a fight, making sure her stance was just right to dodge whatever the first attack would be, assuming it was on her.
