an expression of great irritation was on blackkit's face. for what seemed like hours, she had been trying to catch her prey. okay, so her so-called prey was a cricket, albeit a large cricket, but it had escaped her grasp so many times. to be honest, she was trying to catch it more out of pride than anything. after all, a cricket, no matter how large, wasn't exactly going to feed the entire clan. "gotcha!" she mewed, her high-pitched voice failing in sounding menacing in any way at all. a squeak of a growl escaped her, and, frustrated, she gave up altogether on technique.
her four legs balanced as to form a perfect square, she glared at the insect, and, mustering all her strength, sprung. for a second, she thought it had escaped her yet again - until she looked down at her ink-coloured paws, and, grinning, found a squashed cricket beneath them. "yes!" she cheered, with a celebratory lash of her tail. "finally!" painfully aware of how loud she had been, she glanced around self-consciously.

Snowwhisper had been out of the Medicine Cat's Den stretching her legs, as she commonly was, though she stayed in an area where she could watch it in case another cat entered needing help. She also went out in the territory, but checked with Frostbreeze first always. She knew how to hunt and fight from before she joined the clan, so the idea of leaving wasn't completely rediculus, as it would normally be if not a mission for herbs. At the moment she watched a playing kit with distant eyes, though her attention was attracted by the kit's sudden out use. She approached with a kind smile on her face. "Hello there. Watch ya doin'?" she asked in a curious and slightly bored tone.

blackkit blinked. whoa, where did she come from? she supposed it was no surprise that she hadn't noticed the she-cat; her fur was the colour of snow, blending in rather efficiently with the perpetually snow-covered camp. though she was already embarassed, her face became hotter as the scent of herbs became obvious. the medicine cat had seen her fail. maybe she'd tell fallenstar that these clumsy she-kit wasn't worthy of apprenticeship.
her shoulders fell in shame even as she tried to explain. "i was hunting," she said, her tone almost defiant, but her nervous blinking certainly not. "hunting a cricket," she mumbled. "it took me hours," she added, thinking she might as well come out with it all before she was busted. "it was hard," she whined, forgetting who she was talking to. heat flooded her face, and she glanced up at the medicine cat. "you're not gonna tell on me, are you?"

Snowwhisper was rather sureprised at the suggestion of telling on the other kit to her brother. Even if she did, Fallenstar punish the kit in any way. "Why would I do that? Hunting beetles is hard. They are fast and always escape. But crickets as is what you just caught? Faster and scarier." she responded, playfully casting the lump that was a beetle s fearful glance.

blackkit let her features relax into a smile. "it is hard," she said proudly, resisting the urge to puff out her chest. her tail swished behind her as she stood, glancing down at the sticky mess that was - had been - a cricket. "and they are fast. nearly as fast as a fireclanner." she wrinkled her nose as she realized that she had complimented a rival clan.
"except crickets don't reek of rabbit," she added, giving her squashed prey one last look before returning her gaze to the medicine cat. "they're not that scary though," she mused, with a raise of a non-existent brow. "another thing crickets and fireclan have in common." she grinned up at the white she-cat.

"An they both can't really hurt you directly." she added, though it was only a half hearted complaint. She didn't like being mean towards other cats simply because they were born to another clan. Their individual actions were what she perfered to insult, though she couldn't think of any at the moment.
