Mistyspark chuckled. "No, you can't go to the tunnels. It would be breaking the warrior code in many ways, and it would be too risky."

Echokit nodded vigorously. "Why would you want to go anyway?" She wrinkled her little pink nose. "Seems like it'd be all dark and dreary and haunted—" She broke off, as she was growing accustomed to Ripplekit's feelings, and how she might hear things differently since she was blind. "Obviously you wouldn't care about the dark." She hesitated, then continued: "That's cool! You're braver then I am. I'm afraid of the dark."

Ripplekit shook her head. But if I die, will it be as much of a loss than if any of you die? I'm blind, I'd be a terrible fighter, the only way I can tell exactly where something is, is by doing this_ She scented the air, her whiskers quivering and stretched out a paw, she felt a small stone on one side and no stones on the other. The gathering rock is over there she mewed, flicking her tail in the direction of the small stone she had felt, which in-fact was the correct direction. She drew her paw back toward her and sighed. But that'll take too long in battle. Plus, I can tell if the entrance will close up, I can use this method for that, I can tell if somethings dead or alive without going anywhere near it or having to scent the air, which will help in a musty place like the tunnels. I am use to the dark, which will help in this case. I can do so many things that could help if there are any cats alive in there, nobody else can do these things, I was given my skills for a reason, I know it. Plus, on the bright side I can see in my dreams, so surely I can see in Starclan, also, there's nobody here that'll possibly miss me, other than Sparrowfur. And even she would get over it as quick as anyone else. If I die that is, which I won't. And if you don't take me, I'll find it myself. She flicked her tail as a signal that she would hear any arguments and waited for them to agree or disobey her silent order and argue with her anyway.

Cheetahfur shook her head. "No, every life in FireClan counts. We warriors," she flicked her tail to Mistyspark. "Will assure every life is taken care of. We would give our life to any of our clanmates, but a young kit exploring an underground sealed off tunnel? That's a diffrent matter." she looked up at Mistyspark with a look only warriors understood.

Echokit licked Ripplekit's ear. "I'll miss you. You're my only friend. The whole Clan will miss you if you die. And you could learn. It'd be hard, but you could." She flicked her tail. "Maybe I could teach you to see! I'm pretty good at it, I think. And you're not much of a mouse-brain yourself." She purred to show that she was kidding. (Kidding about the mouse-brain part.)

Mistyspark curled her tail around Echokit. "Hush. Don't you worry about Ripplekit, she won't leave." She shot a look back at Cheetahfur. "Ripplekit you can't leave. How about when you are an apprentice I will take you through FireClan territory and you can look for tunnels?"

"Yeah," mewed Echokit hastily. "We'll be apprentices together." She glanced up at Mistyspark. "You have an apprentice, right? Runningpaw? I, uh... attacked him when he was cleaning out the nursery..."

Ripplekit sighed as Echokit spoke again. You can't teach me to see, blindness is different to muteness, you can't teach it out of them, its impossible. Her voice was quiet and sad, she wished it could be taught out of her, but it couldn't. I would like that, Mistyspark. Thank you she mewed quietly, shifting her sightless gaze to her paws and letting out a sigh.

Echokit licked her chest fur self-conciously as Mistyspark spoke. "I didn't really attack him... I uh, tripped over another kit when I was running towards him...He said we weren't clean! Um... anyway." She turned to Ripplekit. "Well, it doesn't matter if you never learn it, because you can still be the best cat in the clan. you don't have to be a great warrior. You can still hunt!"

Ripplekit sighed and closed her eyes. There is no need to feel sorry for me. I'll just hide with the elders and kits if there's ever a battle she mewed with a sigh. She opened her eyes and stared into the never-ending blackness.

Echokit frowned and cuffed her friend. "I don't feel sorry for you. I know you're just as capable as any cat here, and when we're apprentices together—when—don't think I'll go any easier on you. I know you could beat me if you wanted to. If you learn to control your senses, you can be a great cat. You don't have to be the best warrior to prove your worth to the Clan—and, well, I suppose you can't be a medicine cat—but you are not the kind of cat that hides. And believe me, the elders and the kits will be out there, fighting for their lives, tooth and claw, and you will too." Her voice lost it's sharp tone, and she awkwardly patted Ripplekit with her tail. She wasn't used to comforting cats; she herself was always so cheerful, it was a new situation. "You don't have to be the best warrior to prove your worth to the Clan," she repeated. "You're a great cat, and that's what matters." Her gray-blue eyes drifted to Silverpelt; the sky was already growing dark and little stars shone through the inky blue like specks of dust. "I'll miss you when I'm an apprentice," she murmured absent-mindedly.

Ripplekit flicked her ears and sighed. I know, I know, but its hard when nobody understands. They seem to think my blindness makes me worthless. That's why I have to go to those tunnels, it could be the best way to prove that I'm not useless. And if I die, well I'll at least be remembered for my bravery. she sighed and flinched as her friend laid her tail awkwardly over her back. She sighed and lay down, wishing she could see the stars, rather than only knowing it was nighttime by the coldness and scent. She flicked her tail and glanced briefly at her friend. I know, I'll miss you too, but we'll still be friends she whispered, closing her eyes.

"Yeah," murmured Echokit, ignoring the first bit. "You'll be an apprentice in... not to long, though. And I can wait!"

Ripplekit just shrugged and decided to change the topic, well slightly, at lead this one would be less awkward. Who would you like as your mentor? I'd like Hawkspirit as mine, Cheetahfur told me about him, he seems really nice she mewed excitedly, hoping this would charge up her friend again and she'd be bubbly and fun once more.
