In one of the apprentice den nests, a large light grey tom slept fitfully. He was already the size of a warrior, although he was 10 moons. He snored loudly and rolled onto his left side. Finally, he rolled to his right and rolled on somecat's tail.

Meltingpaw yelped as she felt a tom roll on her tail. She slid her tail out and threw her lips back into a snarl. "Oww!" She hissed. This was not a good start. "Watch were your rolling, mouse brain!" She snarled again, licking her tail. She suddenly regretting lashing out like that. I shouldn't have done that. Now this cat is not going to be my friend.

"Whoops, s-sorry!" the tom exclaimed. He had a stutter. "I'I'm sorry."

"It's okay," she mewed shyly, "sorry for hissing at you like that." She gave her tail one more lick and turned to the grey tom. She realized that she could have gotten swished by this warrior sized apprentice. She had only started her training while he probably started moons ago.

Shiverpaw fixed his icy blue eyes on the she-cat with slight interest. She was actually a pretty cat. Much smaller than he, as were most of the apprentices. "I-I'm Shiverpaw," he stuttered.

Meltingpaw smiled and batted her floppy ear from her eye. "I'm Meltingpaw," she purred. This was a heck of a shy tom, especially for an apprentice. Meltingpaw steeped her fluffy tail from right to left on the ground. She tried to show all signs of friendliness.

Shiverpaw smiled. "N-nice to meet you. How's IceClan for you?" He silently cursed himself. That made him sound so mousebrained!

Meltingpaw tilted her head. "Great I guess." It was either Shiverpaw was really shy, or, he's just living up to his name.

"Umm.." He looked down. What was there to say to a pretty she-cat like her? He wasn't going to use a pick-up line. Besides, e had Rabbitleap to look forward to. But.. "I like your p-pelt.."

Meltingpaw felt embarrassed. "Thanks, I like your pelt too," she said awkwardly. She was warming up to Shiverpaw, even if he was still a bit shy. Now that she thought about it, Shiverpaw looked vaguely familiar. She probably seen him around.

Shiverpaw smiled. "T-t-thanks." He hated his stutter, oh, he DID. His pale blue eyes darkened from complete embarrassment.

Meltingpaw smiled. "Welcome," she mewed awkwardly. She looked at Shiverpaw. She wasn't sure what to say. It was obvious that this was a very awkward moment. Why did every friend she have had to meet her so awkwardly? She searched her mind for the right thing to say. "I-I.... Um....."

Meltingpaw, in an attempt to be funny, rolled over and waved her paw in the air dramatically. "The awkwardness! It BURNS," she mewled. Her mewls turned into purrs of laughter.
