LightheartDawnpaw woke up and yawned. She padded out of the apprentices den and toward the fresh kill pile. She grabbed a plump vole and spotted a golden tabby tom. She padded over to him and mewed with the prey in her mouth. "Hey, aren't you lightpaw?" She dropped the prey and mewed again, "Want to share?"

Lightpaw’s ear twitched, and he turned his head as his name was mentioned, his gaze landing on a slightly familiar looking tabby she-cat. “Well, its good to see someone has taken the time to learn my name— it’s going to go down in history you know,” he said with a small smirk, turning to face the she-cat. Though his memory was a bit fuzzy, he was sure he had seen her at his apprentice ceremony, “your… Dawnpaw? Right? And as for the food...” he eyed the vole, his mouth watering slightly as the scent reached his nose, “well, it would just be impolite to turn it down, now wouldn't it?"

"Yep, that's me," dawnpaw mewed as she ripped the vole in half and tossed one of them to lightpaw. "So how's training been for you?" She mewed to lightpaw as she bit into the vole half. 'Its nice to have someone to talk to besides willowpaw' she thought.

Lightpaw caught his portion of the vole as it was tossed to him, taking a small bite as he listen to Dawnpaw. “Well,” he set what was left of his prey at his paws, swiping his tongue over his jaws as he replied, “Spottedheart, he’s my mentor, hasn’t really taken me outside the camp yet…” the pale golden tom admitted.

"Well, horizonshadow has only taken my outside once.." Dawnpaw meowed, suddenly an idea popped into her curious little mind (insert lightbulb above head). "How about we go and hunt, i've trained on hunting alone." She mewed to the golden tabby.

“Hunt?” Are apprentice’s allowed to leave camp unattended? he thought, then mentally shrugged. Who cares, “sound’s like fun,” it’s not like anyone can get mad at us for trying to replenish the fresh-kill pile, he mentally justified, glad to have a reason to get out of camp, “you have any idea on where to go?”

"Anywhere that doesn't mean crossing the border, let's go!" She mewed happily, she stood up and walked toward the exit of camp. She motioned her tail for lightpaw to follow. "You coming or what?" She meowed to him.

Lightpaw raced after the she-cat with a hidden smile, trying to keep down his excitement as he glanced around the territory. He was glad it had been awhile since the last rain, and that the ground was relatively dry and free of mud patches and puddles. “You said you mentor took your out once, right? Any place notable?” he asked, falling in step with Dawnpaw as he continued gazing around.

"The trees on the territory are the perfect places for birds," dawnpaw mewed as she bolted for the territory. She stopped at some trees and started climbing one, "Are you scared of heights?" She mewed to lightpaw with a gentle tone. 'I hope not, it would be bad for hunting birds' she thought.

“Nah, actually I like high up places,” Lightpaw said, beginning to climb up a tree. Being up high makes me feel taller, he silently added in his head, to embarrassed to say it aloud. ”So, is their any sort of technique for catching birds— or do you just sort of spot one and pounce,” the apprentice said, looking for Dawnpaw once he had perched himself on a sturdy branch.

"You basically have to use the wind to your advantage, it helps you catch the bird" Dawnpaw mewe from a lower branch. She then spotted a robin in the air, she got into a hunters crouch, she leaped at the bird, biting its wing. She grabbed on to the bird with her jaws and landed on all four paws, only that her paws felt a little beaten up. "Not bad, eh?" She mewed to lightpaw.

“Yeah, that looked pretty awesome actually,” Lightpaw said, re-playing the actions Dawnpaw had just followed out in his head, impressed by her catch. Looking around for his own catch, the pale tabby spotted the familiar colors of a thrush resting on a nearby branched. Thrashing his tail excitedly, he focused his gaze on the small bird, judging the distance as best he could, confident he could make the leap. Taking a sharp breath, the tom pushed off the branch, soaring towards his prey. His outstretched claws met with the soft feather’s of the thrush, but he was to busy struggling to get ahold of the branch so he wouldn’t plummet below that the bird managed to break free of his grasp and fly off in a flurry, leaving bits of feathers behind. Lightpaw cursed under his breath, ears flattened, embarrassed by his failed hunting attempt.

"Don't worry, everyone makes mistakes," dawnpaw mewed to lightpaw. She then stared up at the tree. "If you keep practicing, you'll get the hang of it," she mewed again.

Lightpaw blinked. In all honesty he had been expecting her to laugh at him— maybe because that’s what he was used too, or maybe because that’s what he would’ve done if their positions had been reversed (thought a part of him denied that he would be coldhearted enough to laugh at the she-cat). “Yeah,” the pale golden tom muttered, hoping down to lower branch, “thanks,” he gave a small smile, looking down at Dawnpaw. “So, I’m guessing you wan’t me to come down, right?” he asked, letting his tabby tail hang off the branch and sway in the breeze. He liked the feeling of being up in the trees.

"If you want to stay, thats fine with me, but the camp might get worried," dawnpaw meowed. She honestly wanted to stay and hunt with lightpaw but the camp might get worried and horizonshadow might yell at her. I wonder what everyone's doing right now she thought.
