Firepaw gave Amberflash a nod, "We won't, and thank you." She meowed, feeling sick to her stomach for not going to Speckpaw first. But she had to talk to Amberflash. Flicking her tail in farewell, the she-cat trotted away, spotting her friend across the clearing.
"Speckpaw!" Running over, she skidded to a halt at his side, nearly sneezing when dust got in her nose. She prodded her friend's side, eyes watering for an odd reason. "Oh, why did you run off? You worried me and probably Foxpaw, too! He even snapped at his mentor because of what she said!" Firepaw told him, pressing her nose against his shoulder and sighing. "Don't run off like that, okay? And Amberflash didn't mean to hurt you. That's just... how she is, I think. Don't take it to heart." But her eyes betrayed her own hurt. Amberflash's words had been quite bitter. Yet she had to stay cheerful-even if it was just for her friends.

Speckpaw warmed up inside when he saw Firepaw running towards him. He sunk into his friend's warm embrace.
"A-A-A-Amberflash is right. It's my fault that Foxpaw i-i-is hurt. I-I-I didn't do anything t-to help him!" He let out a small cry, tears threatening to spill from his amber eyes.
Speckpaw looked up at Firepaw. He saw the hurt in her eyes as well. It was selfish of him to think that Amberflash hurt just him. It hurt both of his friends as well.

"Don't cry," Firepaw pleaded, forcing her voice not to waver. She felt like she was going to cry herself soon. "Speckpaw, it was just an accident. It's not our fault... it isn't. And Foxpaw is better. He'll be just fine-so we didn't do anything bad. And he forgives us-he stuck up for you against Amberflash. I bet he blames himself... when no one should be to blame. It was just a bad day, but it will get better." She pressed against his fur, trying to sooth down his guilt. Most of what she had said was trying to convince herself. And it worked... a bit. Deep down, though, she had a kindling thought that there was time to save Foxpaw, and there was a chance to stop him.
Yet she had to stop thinking like that. It was the past. And right now, Foxpaw was curled up alone in the medicine den with a throbbing skull while his two best friends grieved over spilled water.
Putting it that way, it all suddenly seemed foolish.
"It's in the past. Thinking about... how we could have stopped it... how we could have changed it... won't help us in the future. We shouldn't stay in the past. We should continue our path to become a warrior-this accident should be a push forward, not a circle backwards!"

Somehow, Firepaw's words reached deep inside of him. "Y-y-you're right. We c-can't change what happened." Speckpaw gave her a friendly lick and smiled. "W-we should probably go ch-check on Foxpaw."

Firepaw nodded, feeling her pelt warm up. She told herself it was just because it was a sunny day... and maybe a bit to do with her name... before giving a bound towards the medicine den. "Well, c'mon then!" she meowed, using her unusually large hind legs to propel herself across the clearing. In just a few seconds, she was already at the entrance. And with a pause to wait for Speckpaw, she slipped inside.
"Foxpaw! We're back!"

Speckpaw padded steadily after Firepaw. He slipped in the den and mewed apologetically, "Sorry that I-I-I-I ran off like that."

He flashed a large smile "please if I could have run I would. And I am sorry for snapping at her its not your fault." He said " is it true I cut my eyelid he" asked pointing at his covered eye"

Firepaw winced at the thought. "That will heal, right?" she murmured.

"I was told I will have a permanent scar but yes " he said quickly not wanting to warn her.

Firepaw's ears dropped. A permanent scar? Because of her? No, because of an accident that np one is to blame for. she thought, nodding to herself in agreement. "At least you'll get better. That's the good part."
